Have you ever watch or even read two unique stories’ that are both alike as they are different? That’s the instance for the book Frankenstein and the movie Blade Runner. They both involve the American dream of wanting to live with love but also the pain of murder. It’s all comes down to the revenge the creation has planned out for the creator.
Frankenstein is a story about a monster that is created. It starts when a man named Victor believes he can produce life and altimetry does. But to his horror what he creates is not what his mind had envisioned and he realizes he produced Adam an ugly gruesome monster. Who eventually starts to kill off Victors family for revenge because of the love he never receives.
Frankenstein was created as a servant
The book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and the old movie of Frankenstein are very different. While they are very different there are also some similarities. In all, the old movie does not accurately show what the book is describing in the slightest. The old movie has the excuse of older technology in contrast to the technology available today. But it still could of portrayed what actually happened in the book extremely better. In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley challenges aspects of the Enlightenment era seeking knowledge, scientism and rationalism. Ridley Scott explores in Blade Runner the effects of corporatism and industrialisation.
As society changes around us, we spot things we never noticed before: high divorce rates, murder rates, and drug use just to name a few. James Riddley-Scott and Mary Shelley noticed and had a fear of child abandonment. In Frankenstein, Shelley explores this subject through the viewpoint of a man, Victor, who creates a child so hideous that he cannot bear to look at it, and consequently deserts it. In Blade Runner, Scott explores this matter through a businessman, Tyrell, who makes replicants of humans, the Nexus 6, gives them only four years to live, and sells them as slaves. The children of these creators turn out to be smarter and more human than expected, and revolt against the way society treats them, giving us all a lesson in parenting and child development.

Bruce Kawin helps the reader to understand how a story in the genre of science fiction could be adapted, or bastardized if you like, into a horror. This is similar to the film adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Frankenstein is a horror movie that tells the story of Dr. Henry Frankenstein’s experiment. In search for the fame and glory of playing to be god, he reaches a point where he is able to revive dead people. In this version of Frankenstein’s monster we see a selfish and careless scientist that created a creature with his intelligence. The way the character is shown reflects how ambitious someone can be to reach to be known in the world. This movie makes the people who are watching to feel empathy on the poor creature. This poor creature that did not want to live in a life where everyone is going to hate him for having a horrible aspect and not following rules that he has no idea about.
The consequences of one’s actions reflect who they are. Without consequences, our actions are meaningless. Jurassic Park, written by Michael Crichton, and Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley, both focus on the creation of life, scientific innovations, and excess knowledge. Hammond and Frankenstein do not think of the result of their creation and pay for it later. Both of these science-fiction novels explore the consequences of scientific innovations. Although Hammond cherishes his creation and Frankenstein despises his, both men neglect to think ahead and cause their projects to destroy their lives by killing the surrounding people and, in the end, destroying them.
The notion of humanity is a picture intricately painted using the ideals and morals that define us as human beings in contextual society. The audience is influenced by the morals and values present through techniques in texts to paint their own image of humanity. Humans have an intrinsic fascination with contravening the innate tenets of existence, as the proclivity of the human condition to surpass our natural world leads to destruction. This inherent desire of man to augment our knowledge through conquering science and the secrets of life has transcended time, denoting literature premising the corruption of humanity. These pieces are reflected in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott’s film Blade runner, perpetuating this assertion that man’s unnatural desires of deducing reality are precarious. Thus both composers postulate a grim future arising from man’s predilection of aberrant behaviour, as commonalities reinforce this desires opportunity to cause destruction. Paranormal creation and humanities emotive detachment are explored in both pieces, as their respective context has shaped conceptualisations of man’s desires which lead to destruction.
Frankenstein is a fictional story written by Mary Shelly. It was later adapted into a movie version directed by James Whales. There are more differences than similarities between the book and the movie. This is because, the movie is mainly based on the 1920’s play, other than the original Mary Shelly’s book Frankenstein. A text has to be altered in one way or the other while making a movie due to a number of obvious factors. A lot of details from the book were missing in the movie, but the changes made by Whales were effective as they made the movie interesting, and successful.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a very complex book riddled with underlying messages. From the characteristics of each individual to the main storyline Shelley depicts a world of opposites. Victor Frankenstein, a privileged young man, defies nature when his obsession with life and death has him attempting to bring someone/something to life. He succeeds and quickly goes from obsessed over its creation to disgust with its form. He then rejects his creation, which sets the stage for the terrifying events to come. This is the embodiment of a modern novel as it contains alienation, disillusionment, and a critique of science.
This truly is remarkable, two novels of different time periods, with characters of startling resemblance. God and Frankenstein's creations stunningly resemble each other. The monster relates to Satan, Adam, and Eve. Victor quotes, "You may render me the most miserable of men, but you shall never make me base in my own eyes," this is when the monster asks for a companion, Victor refuses. The monster also shows that he will go to any extent to be happy and complete vengeance when he goes on a murder spree.
The monster of the novel is often misattributed with the name, “Frankenstein.” However, Victor Frankenstein can ultimately be considered the true monster of this tale. His obsession would lead to the corruption of his soul and the creation of two monsters—one himself, and the other, the creature. In attempting to take on the role of God, nature would become a monster to Victor and destroy his life. These elements of monstrosity in Frankenstein drive the meaning of its story.
Mary Shelley’s, character of Frankenstein’s monster, has entered the cultural mythos in almost all art forms, especially film. The beginning of the Frankenstein story on film, however, was markedly different from the classic novel. The monster was mute, a grunting, frightened, childlike creature that was more obsessed with being alone (at least until 1941’s The Bride of Frankenstein) than seeking vengeance on his creator. The creature’s depiction on film created an entirely new character in the social consciousness, splitting the character of Frankenstein’s monster into two distinct forms: the childlike creature made famous by Boris Karloff, and the articulate, revenge-obsessed creature from the original novel. An analysis of the similarities and differences between the two characters reveals that the film Frankenstein is a much more sympathetic creature than Shelley’s original creation.
At first he is obsessed and ecstatic about his creation but then he soon learns it was a big mistake as he is scared of what he made. The huge monster is the antagonist of this story. He is fairly smart as he tries to learn human interactions and actually tries to fit in with real people. Robert Walton is actually writing the story through a series of letters of when he had met Victor Frankenstein. One of the last main characters is Victor’s father Alphonse who is very kind and understanding of the things Victor has done and continues to do.
