As AMC’s groundbreaking hit, Breaking Bad, continues, the relationships among the characters grow in complexity and new antagonists, Marco and Leonel Salamanca, are introduced. In season three episode seven, the Salamanca brothers have found a new target: Hank Schrader. The episode titled “One Minute” parallels two scenes where the characters in stressful positions are framed around the concept of one minute. A flashback is used to explore the complexity of the brothers and the dire future it predicts. The Salamanca brothers and Hank have both suffered at the hands of cartel. Although, while Hank is framed as a sympathetic figure because of his experiences, the brothers are perceived as villains due to Latino stereotypes.

This is a poem explains what a real friendship is and what happiness is in a friendship. She explains the poem with symbols that a real true friendship is one with happiness, even though there can be bad times. In the second stanza, the lines 7 to 9 it has a symbol of happiness when it says “we are not friends because of the laughs we spend but the tears we save”. This part of the poem is saying that they are friends because of the good times and not because of the bad times. It is true that all friends do is laugh but laughing means that they are having fun which means there is happiness, friends also do cry which means they also fight. A relationship isn’t real if there are no fights or argument. In stanza 4 there are more examples of happiness when it says “I will never miss you because of what we do but what we are together”. This means that when friends are together they will be having fun, but it is more important on how they are acting to each other. A good friendship is one that you are happy when friends are with each other, not just being happy because of one thing that happened. In the first stanza Giovanni mentions lovers, she says that, “We are not lovers because of the love we make but the love we have”. Friends can also be lovers. There is love in every friendship because you love each other and would not do anything to hurt your friendship. In each stanza of the poem there are four lines and
Their relationship is complicated and this is even shown in their names. Primo is the first brother, the one with a rare and special gift for cooking. Secondo has lived in his great shadow and resents him, especially for making business so difficult. They argue constantly and Secondo complains about Primo all the time. They don’t agree on how the restaurant should be run. Secondo complains that his brother is cheap and his stubbornness is costing them their business. He feels that he does all the work to make the restaurant a successful enterprise, and Primo gives him nothing in return. Despite constant arguing and complaining between the two, they love each other deeply. Secondo encourages Primo to ask out a girl he likes and when Primo gets too nervous, he asks the girl to show up to the restaurant for him. When Primo is offered a job from his uncle, he said he would only go if Secondo could work there too. When Secondo is offered a job by Pascal, it is clear that he and his brother come as a package deal. Brotherhood is what grounds these characters and prevents them from losing themselves. After all the dramatic events, lying, and fighting, the final scene depicts the two brothers eating an omelet with their arms across each other’s shoulders. The brothers experience life together and even if they are different, they will always have that bond. Even greed and betrayal fails to break their
Antonio and Sebastian’s nastiness to others does not end here. They continually mock others, particularly Gonzalo and Adrian. In conclusion, Antonio and Sebastian are both evil men who contribute.
The lines selected for analysis are Act II, Scene I, lines 277-291, when Antonio is trying to reassure Sebastian that killing his brother—the King of Naples—is a good idea and well worth the effort. As the reader knows, Antonio usurped his brother, Prospero, and became the Duke of Milan. This sets the stage for his attitude towards Sebastian’s wanting to kill his brother, King Alonso. Because of Antonio’s past actions he sees nothing wrong with getting rid of a family member for personal gain, but his reasons for doing so began at a young age and have been etched into his brain. Antonio’s psychological depth reveals that he is a man jealous of his brother’s rightful power, and stemming from that is his insecurity and lust for power wherever he may find it (in this case, having power over Sebastian). Antonio is not a good person, has few conscientious thoughts, and is now trying to convince his companion to follow his lead. If Antonio’s brother, Prospero, was to hear the selected lines, he would say that the only time Antonio thinks about performing acts that will get him power, by eliminating those who currently have it, is when it is to his advantage. He would say that Antonio devises plans to get rid of leaders when they are at a disadvantage, and he at an advantage, because he doesn’t feel that he could succeed otherwise—his insecurities kicking in. I don’t think Shakespeare agrees with Antonio, and there are two examples in the play to support that.
