Significance of the concept
Homelessness is the condition of people without a regular accommodation, people who are homeless are most often unable to afford and maintain a decent, regular, safe and secure home. Each country has its definition of homelessness, according to the UK homelessness charity crisis, a home is not just a physical space, and it also provides roots, identity, and security, sense of belonging and emotional wellbeing. American government homeless enumeration studies includes people who sleep in a public or private places which are not designed for living or sleeping. It is sometimes difficult to define homelessness as it sometimes includes in-transit persons such as vagabonds, tramps or drifters. Reporting a history of illicit drug use has steadily risen since the recent years. Results suggest that over time, addiction trends among the homeless people have changed to and involved multiple substance abuse with more of cannabis and minor sedatives abuse particularly among the younger persons. Rates of high level of drinking has also increased, majorly among the women both singles and married leading to family problems.
In the developed world, there are many rehabilitation centres and programmes available to cater for the homeless, which provide shelter, food, clothes and health care services to them until they are integrated back to the society, in the developing world the story is totally different the homeless are not cared for and have not shelter to sleep in they are seen roaming the street both day and night or sleeping in uncompleted buildings without any plan for their
