1.3 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Youth and children marginalization is a common phenomenon in post war societies of which Sierra Leone is not an exception. Of course the youth of Sierra Leone have and are faced with some extent of marginalization, owing to some notable factors including the decade long civil conflict. The young people of Sierra Leone lost a decade of their productive life time to participation in war fighting which leaves them utterly disadvantaged as they lack the essential skills and qualifications to gain employment for sustainable livelihood.
The lack of education among youth and children has resulted to their inability to secure minimum requirements for life health, and account for insufficient income to acquire the minimum human needs in respect of food, clothing, education and health. High infant and maternal morbidity and mortality; high health care costs, high social welfare costs, especially in the case of single and unmarried mothers. There is reduced prospect of eradicating poverty; as educational level of mother is a key factor in breaking intergenerational transmission of poverty, (UNFPA, 2003). Dropping out leads to reduced skilled human capital for socio-economic development; less skilled workforce reduced earnings; increased dependency of young mothers on male providers even if abusive, increased population and reduced demographic bonus, (UNFPA, 2003). Education is what is lacking in the youth and children in Sierra Leone and this population account for high o percentage of the future working human capital; if not capacitated, will eventually lead to intergenerational poverty that will deprive the country from a sustainable human development required, (UNFPA,
