It is important for there to be both two-way conversation, face-to-face communication, and stable communication. It should be noted that two-way communication is important because it is essential for all parties of the communication to be able to express their ideas and impression of the change being implemented. With technology integration, it is important that all departments of Sick Kids to be on the same page with where the organization is and where it wants to be. This is because Sick Kids works holistically, different departments working together to create a smooth running institution. Face-to-face communication is also ideal in this change to ensure that all parts of the organization understand the change and recognize how technology will impact the institution in a positive way. This can also allow for any problems in the plan to be worked out and be eliminated before it gets too far in to the process where it could potentially cause a larger unwanted problem. Stable communication is an important principal in implementing technology into Sick Kids because it is key to make sure that each department is progressing at a rate that creates a stable work environment. This could be check-points that have to be met at certain times, and communication in various ways that will relay messages on behalf of the departments so the key change organizer will be able to see where everyone is with
To create a communication strategy equipment differences must be included. The differences hinder productivity due to the fact that protocol is tailored to the equipment at the hospital. Mothiba, Dolamo, and Lekhuleni (2008) observed that in most meetings managers were not incorporating the staff at a functional level (p.43). By including staff from the outpatient clinic in meetings, protocol could b...
Melanie Merrifield’s article “Health Technology” seeks to understand the kind of innovations technology has brought to healthcare and how they have helped the health field. Merrifield provides numerous examples of how the innovations being made in health technology have improved patient care. There are examples used, from both the military as well as civilian innovations in technology that is included with Merrifield’s article. The examples in the article include patients being able to leave in three days instead of three months because of minimal invasive surgery; this is one example of how the advances in health technology have helped patients (Merrifield, 2006)
Even with my facilities use of shared governance, variance report, and I-Generate system, the communication needs improvement to face future challenges. Communication and strong patient-provider relationships are two key aspects of a successful health care organization. Patient portals provide the technology to improve both of these aspects to create the most effective and personalized care for the patient. Successful communications strategies are imperative to health care organizations because the patient’s health depends on it. Patient portals create an efficient environment in which the patient feels connected to their health care provider and communication is effectively driven through interaction both in and out of the office.
As technology continues to evolve so does the need for healthcare facilities to continually maintain a higher level of competence that runs parallel to electronic and scientific advancement. Comparatively, the structure of hi-tech facilities, such as medical centers and clinics prepared with new amenities has enhanced the industry scale of communities by working in the healthcare arena. Likewise, technological innovations which help diagnose a variety of infections and disorders has helped in assisting patients in receiving increased quality care. As a result, patient care as a whole has positively been affected within the last decade. Furthermore, it only make sense that more personalized and precise problem-solving methods and procedures will be devised in the future. The third element to swales discourse communities is, “a discourse community uses its participatory mechanisms primarily to provide information and feedback” (Swales 472). Swales also believes that there must be different forms of that communication, a discourse community utilizes and hence possess on or more genres in the communicative furtherance of its aims” (Swales 472). The Medical Field has many different options when it comes to transferring information. Emails are the biggest form of communication because they allow corporate to keep everything on file. This gives corporate the capability to bring up older emails if there is any confusion or controversy over a past topic. Emails also allow the company to reach the whole branch in a matter of seconds. Calling a meeting can take away precious time that the sales force could use working with doctors. The communication also accrues on the outside of the company when sales people are in contact with their clients. The client or doctors are always demanding attention from the sales people. Running on short notice doctors could need a drug test done or a screening might be needed to make sure a baby is still healthy and on track for birth. The Medical rep best source to stay in contact is through text message. Text messages allow short quick exchanges of information so the test can be sent right away. Maintaining contact with the doctors is the most important part about the job. If a doctor cannot get in contact with a medical rep they will change companies to someone that will respond faster. This means doctors can get instant feedback at any time. The Medical sales force uses many different ways of communication within and outside of the company to receive feedback. This meets Swales third and fourth elements to be a discourse community because there are many
Communication is one of the foundation stones of clinical governance to ensure HCPs deliver a quality health service it is also one of the 6Cs recently introduced by the NHS referring to Compassion, Care, Communication, Confidence, Competence and Courage (NHS England, 2013 cited in (Ndoro, 2014).
As health care evolves new innovated ideas that have been discovered and created in order to advance in technology or in any other field. One innovated idea that has been presented recently is integrating behavioral health with health care organizations. There are many patients that suffer with behavioral health issues that do not seek the resources they need due to the stigma surrounding mental health or not having access to the services. By providing behavioral health services in primary care, patients can be provided with the appropriate care. Not only will it reduce readmission rates but also help reduce cost. A second innovated idea is mobile disease management. Currently Vheda Health has created a tool to manage and prevent disease in large populations by monitoring their patients and tending to their needs faster. The mobile interface will create a personalized actionable care plan which will include weekly video meetings with the patient and their care team. This potentially will help reduce hospitalizations and ER visits. A third innovated idea in 3D human tissue printing. Currently Biobots is working on creating 3D bioprinters that are able to build functional living tissue. This will help reduce cost of prosthetic hands for children and allow surgeons to create copies of the patients anatomy to practice procedures before the actual surgery. These great innovated ideas can ultimately help reduce cost and improve quality of life for the community. Although some

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is reshaping the health care system in the United States at an accelerating rate. In earlier times US Healthcare system was more focused on intervention of diseases, but now it is moving more towards preventive approach and I see Health IT as the most important tool that can lead this change. I strongly believe that my professional goals, range and depth of my experience and knowledge is an asset and my enthusiasm for the field makes me an ideal candidate for the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Management (Health Information Technology) program at Georgetown University.
This particular assignment allowed me to identify from a perspective of a registered nurse what my personal top ten reasons that communication, working in interprofessional teams, and Nursing Informatics are important to improving quality and safety, reducing costs, and better satisfying the needs of patients and families. After completing this assignment I was able to discuss the significance of communication in health IT to achieve adoption of EHR technology. I also gained the ability to define the elements of effective communication plans, and describe the federal agencies, guidelines, and other influences that affect health

According to Gupta (2008), while hospitals and other care providers have long been quick to adopt breakthrough technology in medical devices, procedures and treatments, far less attention has focused on innovations in networking and communications. There is less focused attention on innovation in networking and communication because medical offices have IT workers, that helps improve the network security to not let breaches get in the security systems and help able to transmit patient information back and forth without having hackers take or look at patient information. Recommend an innovation or modification, and explain how the recommendation could improve the overall level of health care in your own community.
From state and federal levels, the healthcare industry has come a very long way, experiencing changes along the way. The development of advanced technology that has enhanced the quality of healthcare delivery systems will help all patients to be able to benefit. Doctors are able to access patient records at a faster rate and respond to their patients in a much more timely fashion. E-mail, electronic transfer of records and telemedicine will give all patients and physicians the tools needed to be more efficient, deliver quality care and deliver quality telecommunication at a faster pace than before.
