1. Healthcare Executives are constantly negotiating something, whether it be employee union agreements, professional contracts, HMO contracts, purchasing agreements, office space leases, etc. Please identify and discuss the various steps commonly found in the negotiation process.
a. There are various types of strategies used in order to reach consensus towards something an organization may want. Whether it’s taking the approach to want it all and make extreme offers until the desire outcome is achieved, or giving a deadline to accept an offer, negotiation processes may be challenging. According to the readings the integrative model is one of the most frequently used models to resolve conflict. The integrative model follows six steps in which

As health care evolves new innovated ideas that have been discovered and created in order to advance in technology or in any other field. One innovated idea that has been presented recently is integrating behavioral health with health care organizations. There are many patients that suffer with behavioral health issues that do not seek the resources they need due to the stigma surrounding mental health or not having access to the services. By providing behavioral health services in primary care, patients can be provided with the appropriate care. Not only will it reduce readmission rates but also help reduce cost. A second innovated idea is mobile disease management. Currently Vheda Health has created a tool to manage and prevent disease in large populations by monitoring their patients and tending to their needs faster. The mobile interface will create a personalized actionable care plan which will include weekly video meetings with the patient and their care team. This potentially will help reduce hospitalizations and ER visits. A third innovated idea in 3D human tissue printing. Currently Biobots is working on creating 3D bioprinters that are able to build functional living tissue. This will help reduce cost of prosthetic hands for children and allow surgeons to create copies of the patients anatomy to practice procedures before the actual surgery. These great innovated ideas can ultimately help reduce cost and improve quality of life for the community. Although some …show more content…
Please identify and briefly discuss three Drivers of Change in health care. These can be new technology, or financial changes, or policy changes which have or are expected to have major implications for the health care industry.
a. The emerging innovations and policies implemented are helping reshape the health care industry. The three Drivers of Change that are expected to have major implications are meeting the health needs of immigrants, disseminating information, and the role of the government.
i. Meeting the health needs of immigrants: Hospitals across the country need to hire more foreign-born workers in order to help meet the needs of immigrant patients. It is important to have cultural diversity in hospitals in order to help address language barriers and cultural differences between the patient and health care provider. Furthermore, there continues to be many uninsured immigrants, that have low-income jobs that most often do not provide them with health issuance. Although Medicaid is offered it is limited, and it is important for patients to receive the needed
Immigration and the minority population is increasing each and every year. With a growing ethnically diverse population, it is vital that nurses are sufficiently equipped for and able to work with patients in a way that identifies and respects their diversity.
Healthcare has been a topic of discussion with the majority of the country. Issues with insurance coverage, rising costs, limited options to gain coverage, and the quality of healthcare have become concerns for law makers, healthcare providers and the general public. Some of those concerns were alleviated with the passing of the Affordable Care Act, but new concerns have developed with problems that have occurred in the implementation of the new law. The main concerns of the country are if the Affordable Care Act will be able to overcome the issues that plagued the old healthcare system, the cost of the program, and how will the new law affect the quality of the health delivery system.
According to Penner et al. (2013), there are various causes of healthcare disparities, such as socioeconomic status; this results to poor healthcare services for people with low socioeconomic status, as people with low pay find it difficult to leave their work to seek healthcare help, or to afford healthcare insurance (p.4). The second cause is language proficiency. The language barriers faced by the immigrant plays a role in the healthcare disparities among the racial or ethnic minority patients. Another cause is health literacy. The levels of the health literacy among the foreign born individuals can be influenced by their higher level of distrust of the healthcare providers and healthcare system than they have towards Caucasian people. This, in turn, leads them to seek healthcare information less often than their Caucasian counterparts, thus hindering the provision of quality services, as well as limiting the foreign patients’ ability to manage their health conditions effectively. The foreigners’ failure to easily accept the information provided to them by healthcare providers puts them at risk. Disentangling the role of health literacy in racial healthcare disparities from the effects of racial attitudes and beliefs is often hard (Penner et al,
These services are provided by medical professionals serving U.S. citizens striving to provide the best possible care, but just as we have had a growth of medical knowledge the U.S. population has changed drastically. Minorities should no longer be overlooked as they are the new prospering culture in this day and age, especially for the Hispanic/ Latino people. As a result there has been a shift, a blend, and a creation of new cultures. It is imperative that medical professionals learn to understand culture. Failure to understand this thriving ethnic group can lead to complications such as ineffective communication, loss of trust between patient and medical personnel, and failure to provide proper treatment. That is why it is important to find ways to help Hispanics feel at ease when visiting any medical facility for service.

As I began watching Reinventing Healthcare-A Fred Friendly Seminar (2008), I thought to myself, “man, things have changed since 2008.” And as the discussion progressed, I started to become irritated by how little had changed. The issues discussed were far-reaching, and the necessity for urgent change was a repeated theme. And yet, eight years later, health care has made changes, but many of its crucial problems still exist.
ABSTRACT Technology affects society in every aspect in today’s world. There is not one single industry that has not been affected by technology, but no other industry is more affected than the field of medicine and healthcare. Modern technology has changed the structure and organization of the medical field. With rising health care cost the amount of uninsured people keeps rising higher and higher. With new technology the prices will only continue to rise. There are currently approximately 46 million people without health care coverage and that number continues to climb with rising health care cost. Employers are either no longer able to pay for employee insurance because of the 54 percent cost increase, or they are having to change policies

There are and will be many challenges that we face that are and will define the strategic direction of health care altogether. Some of these challenges are proposed health care reform and legislation, information technology advancements, funding and costs of Medicaid and Medicare programs, access to health care, and maintaining a skilled workforce.
Negotiation approaches are generally described as either distributive or integrative. At the heart of each strategy is a measurement of conflict between each party’s desired outcomes. Consider the following situation. Chris, an entrepreneur, is starting a new business that will occupy most of his free time for the near future. Living in a fancy new development, Chris is concerned that his new business will prevent him from taking care of his lawn, which has strict requirements under neighborhood rules. Not wanted to upset his neighbors, Chris decides to hire Matt to cut his grass.
According to the Migration Policy Institute, the most current data shows the United States as having 42.4 million immigrants (Zong & Batalova, 2016). This leads us to reason number two, which involves these diverse multicultural families that want their beliefs and values to be understood by those in the medical field. Reason number three is that sometimes the increased use of technology can cause conflicts with the values of patients. An example of this would be communication between a healthcare worker and a family that does not understand technological instruments, such as a life-saving device or intubation. Reason number four recognizes that conflicts can lead to confrontation and violence as cultures intermingle with one another, which can impact a patient’s care. Number five acknowledges that there has been an increase in people relocating to different parts of the world for work. According to Jelinek (n.d.), a healthcare worker must be aware of the local culture when you are working in a diversified area that may have a different culture and belief than your own. Otherwise, you risk a communication barrier that could affect the patient’s care. Number six involves the ramifications of the negligence
What will US healthcare look like in 2050? According to Getzen (2013), trends in better health will lead to greater need for long-term care and chronic care for the aging population while correspondingly trending toward less acute illnesses (p. 438). Personalized prognostic healthcare will lead to healthier longer lives (Lawrence, 2010). Physicians will become leaders of teams within healthcare organizations rather than the independent practitioners we are familiar with today (Getzen, 2013, p. 438). Thus, the concept of the primary care physician will become a thing of the past (Lawrence, 2010).
