A symbol of hope and prosperity, the United States has expressed its dominance around the world through many ways. Whether it be by expressing their superiority in fields such as technology and scientific innovations, or by promoting its unique traits which may not be available in other countries, such as certain rights, the US continues to remain a global superpower(https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/the-united-states-will-remain-the-worlds-only-superpower_us_58ebba1ee4b081da6ad0064f ). One way specifically that the United States expresses their superior position, is in the area of military technology, where the productivity of manufacturing as well as the quality surpasses those of other companies/countries,thus exemplifying the competitive …show more content…
Being a superpower means that the country wields enough military, political, and economic influence, holding enough power to influence how society progresses. (http://time.com/3899972/us-superpower-status-military/) This responsibility is important in today’s society due to the world today revolving around power, resulting in the United States relying on its competitiveness to drive its success, due to other countries wanting this role in society as well. Regarding the industry of military technology, it is an established fact that “The country’s armed forces have been so well resourced and so technologically superior that it would be utterly foolish for any state to mount a direct challenge to the superpower or its allies.” (https://www.economist.com/news/international/21654066-military-playing-field-more-even-it-has-been-many-years-big). This is evidentially seen, where $600 billion dollars are invested annually into the industry, making up 30 to 40% of global military spending(http://www.newsweek.com/importance-defense-spending-economy-365606), almost $450 billion dollars more than its rival country, China (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/07/12/countries-spending-most-on-military/12491639/). In addition to this substantial amount of money dedicated to supporting the …show more content…
These issues include the fact that the industry is so technologically and mentally advanced, that it is hard to recruit younger members with enough experience, resulting in the workforce being comparatively made up of older generations (https://www.iqs.com/top-five-issues-facing-aerospace-and-defense/). In fact, about 18 percent of the workforce is eligible for retirement in the next 2 years (https://www.iqs.com/top-five-issues-facing-aerospace-and-defense/). Elders may be faced with natural health issues that arise with age, making younger workers work extra hard to produce enough product so that this industry doesn’t fall. In addition to the aging workforce, the US government is decreasing its interest in this industry and focusing on other matters such as healthcare and insurance, due to this industry making more profit commercially than from the actual companies. (https://www.afcea.org/content/Blog-incredible-shrinking-defense-industrial-base). This decreased interest makes job security a little harder for current workers, causing the ones already employed to work even harder so they can hold onto their jobs better. ...ts profit. This causes an increase in unemployment. Deflation also affects loans. When deflation occurs, borrowers are paying back loans in dollars that are worth less than expected. So one’s income may decrease, but the size of their loan stays the same, making it more difficult to pay off.
Maintenance cost- Maintaining the old aircrafts is the biggest weakness for the airlines as they have to spend a huge amount on their maintenance by which their additional overhead cost raises.
...ccomplishments. As the years progress, just as they have in the past, so will military technology. Not more 80 years ago, the United States was just learning how to se machine guns. Not more than 60 years ago, the United States was just learning how to use tanks and artillery. Nowadays, the US military has become the leading war machine in all aspects of warfare including weapons, computer technology and biological as well as chemical warfare. God only knows what advancements are to come our way.
Coming into World War two the United States realized that as an air power we were still very behind in technology, so in an effort to compete with foreign ...
American Technological Advancements and the Cold War Many of the military technological advancements that have been made in the last 60 years can be attributed to the Cold War. Much of the technology developed during the period of the Cold War is still in use today by the military and government. Advancements in offensive technology are well known to just about everyone in the way of nuclear energy harnessed in the form of the nuclear bomb, but little is known about the battle for information during the Cold War. The Cold War produced some of the most advanced technology used in the fields of detection and reconnaissance in history.
Presently, the United States places a high value on its military power and often boasts of its strength in the news. Not only does
The United States is the Super Power in today’s world and two reasons for that are the outcome of World War II and how the President at the time, Franklin Delano Roosevelt handled conflicts at home as well as overseas. America was going through a very difficult time dealing with the Great Depression and the problem of Germany starting conflicts in Europe where nothing was being done about it. World War II was something America stayed out of for about three years, but when we finally did get involved the “scales” were now tipped in the favor of the Allies due to the American involvement. Also, as shown in World War I when the United States gets involved with conflicts dealing with issues overseas we are very successful and are adamant on becoming victorious. Much like the conflict America is dealing with today in Iraq, although many people do not agree with the war and the grounds for the war I think that our government is doing the right thing. People need to realize that our government would not do anything to hurt the nation or its people because that is just a reflection of the government and the people who run it. They want to be perceived as the super power of the world and would not do anything to hurt that image. Much like Roosevelt helped the United States to appear the Super Power, President Bush is also doing his part by continuing the war on terror and not ending it until he feels we have conquered the men behind the 9/11 attacks.
As America heads into a new year, we find our government tightening its purse strings and cracking down on excessive spending, with an emphasis on the US military. According to author Brad Plumer, a reporter at the Washington Post, “U.S. defense spending is expected to have risen in 2012, to about $729 billion, and then is set to fall in 2013 to $716 billion, as spending caps start kicking in.” Pared with a more drastic 350 billion dollar cute going into effect over the next ten years, the military finds itself cutting what cost the most to maintain and support troops (Fact Sheet par. 2). In recent years the military has bolstered an overwhelming 1,468,364 troops (Active Duty). These numbers are to be cut substantially; the biggest cut is to be seen in the Army. The Army must deal with a reduction of 80,000 troops, cutting its force of 570,000 troops to nearly 140,000.Subsequently, the budget cuts, which have led to a reduction of troops in the military, has driven the military to turn to advanced weapons technology that requires less people to m...
The United States has always strived to be superior and it is today the most powerful nation in the world. The United States right now can not go much farther than it has already reached. If if it tries to go beyond the dream, it could become a nightmare.
China is the most populous state in the world, with over 1.3 trillion inhabitants (Central Intelligence Agency 2010). Because of its large population base, China also has the largest military and a booming economy that is third only America and Japan in terms of GDP; however, economic trends show that Japan’s economy is stagnating, while the American Chinese economies continue to spike upward (Google, Inc. 2010). Despite its growing economy and large military force, China lags behind America in technology and naval power. Chinese Admiral Wu Shengli said, “The Navy will move faster in researching and building new-generation weapons to boost the ability to fight in regional sea wars under the circumstance of information technology” (Xuequan 2009). This quote shows that China wants to remain a regional sea power, and not develop a blue-water navy that can compete with the American navy. Furthermore, a Popular Mechanics article showed the world that China was stealing American military “leap ahead” technology, or technology that is decades ahead of Chinese technology (Cooper 2009).
...wed for it to write the rules of the game, create well established institutions that are respected by the majority worldwide, and have inspired other countries to follow in its footsteps in search of their own version of the “American Dream”. However, the decisions that generated that American prosperity were based on the notion that concessions, accountability and investment towards the future were crucial for its later success. As seen in hindsight, somewhere throughout history, this message became heavily influence by personal gains and short term gratification. If the United States wants continue as a key player, it will need to solve its domestic qualms with in turn have and continue to affect the international community. Military dominance, cultural influence and innovation cannot sustain itself in an environment that lacks stability and long term planning.
However, this move is not always a wise one because when an enterprise has fewer workers it would reduce its productivity which would mean more financial problems. Besides it strains the workforce. If these corporations continue incurring losses they eventually close down and as a result, the workforce loses jobs. This is what has been going on since December 2007. Unemployment is one of the biggest problems that governments have to deal with. (compston 2002).
This barrier to innovation was famously summarized by the former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s quote noting that, “you go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have...” said in context referencing development, manufacturing, and fielding limitations. An examination of two specific British decisions made in the interwar period serve to articulate the point, the first being the governments rejection of Bomber Command’s request for a new generation bomber and the second being the overreliance on their poorly tested anti-submarine detection system. In contrast Britain successfully developed its radar capacity and resourced the Spitfire and Hurricane fighters whose fielding limitations were based on an underdeveloped industrial complex, based in part to Britain’s late transition to a war footing.
The employment policies have not kept up with changes in the economy, workforce, and the nature of work causing a severe financial impact
Lower GDP for the economy also one of the consequences of unemployment in current time. High rate of this issue implies the economy is operating below full capacity and inefficient so that it will lead to lower output and incomes. Because people who are searching for their work usually will spend less in purchasing goods and
