Teens hang out together that is what they do. Good kids are being punished for the few who break the law. Rights of citizens should include teens. They should not be punished because they are late getting home, get a ticket or get put into the system. Curfew is imposed on all minors because of the few who break the law.
They have rights just like adults when you put a curfew on them you are taking away their rights. By infringing on a teens right to mobility and free association and a parents fundamental privacy interest in how they choose to raise their children. It should be the parents “policing” their own kids. Now we are starting to charge the parents for what the kids do. So not only are we taking the right to choose what our children do but a parent is now being charged as well. Sanctions against parents may include participation in diversion programs, fines, and, in some jurisdictions, jail time.

But law abiding citizens are the ones who suffer with the restrictions. If the kids are doing something illegal they will be arrested for that crime, not for being outside after a certain time. And why the age 18, is that a magic age? So we are supposed to stay in until then and adulthood is thrust upon us and we are supposed to handle it at that magic number even though we have been put in a bubble. I found so many articles saying how staying up late is ruining teens health and gaining weight and the general downslide of everything. Then you find the articles the fact that every teen does it. A major contributor to most teen’s habit to stay up all night is the chemistry of their brains. Teens are wired to stay up. Being out with friends does not mean they are up to no
As shown above, curfew laws can play a very critical role in a teenager’s life. It can assist with keeping the city safer, help them get enough sleep, and help them build their personal skill under a well-structured system routine. A lot of people might find curfew laws for teenagers unconstitutional and contradict the first amendment, so they decide not to abide with it. But by doing so, they are placing more a bigger experience to teenagers who are still working on developing their skills to take on new challenges. After all, Teenagers are the future of our society if we don’t teach, coach, direct, and offer guidance their future will be unstable and unproductive and that will affect the entire nation.
Today, teen curfews are commonplace and supported by voters. Bainbridge observes that according to Jet Magazine’s survey taken in 2011, 75% of the voters were in support of curfew laws (13). Parents arrange for young children to go to bed at an earlier time than teenagers (Psychologytoday.com). Teens receive the privilege to stay up later but this can mean that they will be out on the streets later at night. McKinny indicates that curfews are in place to protect the youth from crimes that may harm them or take the children’s lives (Time.com).
Today law enforcement is criminalizing innocent activity because of curfews placed in their region. Like in Shaina’s case, she had a destination in mind. Many young teens out past 10p.m. are only trying to get home or have a place of interest in mind. There shouldn’t be an automatic negative assumption of a teen that is out past 10pm. Teenagers should not have labels placed upon them when they have not caused any trouble. Curfew laws create these labels on young teens and put down the ones who are innocent. Curfew laws discriminate against young teens who have done nothing wrong and serve no threat to the community.
Curfews don't keep teens out of trouble at night. Making more trouble by forcing them to stay in the house. They'll sneak out the house any time at night to go to a party, or have fun. Sneaking out the house past their curfew; with their parents thinking their child's in bed. When the parent finally notices that the child is missing they will have no idea where their child's at.
“Curfews punish good children” says Mike Males. It is not fair that good children get punished. According to Jose Regalado “Not all kids are bad. In Vernon Con they found that out of 410 children only seven were committing crime. ”When you give children curfews it makes them feel like you do not trust them to be out on their own. If teens are not doing anything wrong there is no need to punish them and sometimes disproportionately target black and Hispanic youth.
Strict rules create rebellious teens. Many people think that curfews are a fundamental way to keeping teens out of trouble, but this is not the case. Curfews are neither applicable, justified, nor are they a way to diminish criminal activities committed by adolescents. Curfews are ultimately useless because there are too many reasons that contradict why a curfew would work.
They are out there causing trouble, drinking, smoking, and having sex. The teenagers: feared by parents all around the world. That is not the reality; the majority of teenagers will not be out looking for trouble. On a typical Friday night teenagers will be hanging out with their friends, catching up with everything that has gone on during the week. Why do parents fear for their teenager’s lives? So often we hear about violent crimes and things that go bump in the night, but do we think that the problems can be solved by a magical curfew? Can parents really keep their teenagers out of trouble or does an imposed curfew only lead to resentment and chaos? Parents think back to when you were a teenager, did you have a curfew? If so, did you follow the rules or break them? Teenagers are no more likely to follow the rules today than they were in the past. It is not likely that creating a curfew for teenagers will cut down on the risk of violence and rule breaking.
Curfews are here to stop teenagers from roaming the streets at night and causing trouble. In consideration of having a curfew for teenagers, the crime rate has greatly decreased. Many tests and studies have confirmed that curfews do keep teenagers out of trouble. Curfews have helped keep many of the streets safe and free of crime in various cities around the world, even cities in Michigan.
Accidents happen everyday from drunk driving or cars loosing control. Having a curfew can prevent reckless driving late hours at night, when having one or two people in the car. Coming home at a certain time will take the danger out of allowing teenagers to roam around towns past curfew. Most adults between the age of 18 and 25 usually stay out later driving then most teens, who are under the age limit, which is expected for them to follow up on being home on time. Social events can go on for long hours but making sure a teen is home on time is very important to prevent safely. Everyone needs to follow rules given to them or if they don't their will be consequences for that. Teenagers always tend to slip up and make mistakes, they didn't mean to do. Curfews help teach them, that breaking the rules or laws will be recommend to some lead in punishment. If a party is going on this weekend and a parent is allowing her daughter to go out and take her car, as a parent she needs to check in on her daughter to make sure she knows what time the party starts, who's she's going with and what time she'll be home. If she stayed out later then expected she will be breaking the law, which that would involve a punishment when she was told
Should teenagers be restricted to a curfew? That's a question many parents question themselves. What is my son up? What is my daughter doing? How do I know if they're safe? What time will he/she be home? When following curfews, teens tend to stay out of trouble more because criminal activity or high-risk behaviors is more likely to occur later in the evening when parental supervision is not present. Therefore teenagers need have a curfew, imposing curfews would help keep young teens out of trouble legally, set strict boundaries, and provides safety.
City Council’s addition of a curfew would be harmful for the teenage life. The curfew takes away their freedoms, and makes it so they can’t hang with friends after work or after an after school activity such as a sporting event. It also makes it harder for teens to work because most teens need nights shifts because of school, and other activities. It also reduces the time to have fun during summer… some teens might work during the day, and then after work they go to hang with their friends till late at night. The effect of the curfew will create a gap in the abilities for teens to manage their time during the day because they don’t have as much time in the day.
(p. 475). The essence of the author’s argument is that teenagers are paying for a crime that they did not admit, instead, they are being punished for crimes other commits, essentially making them prisoners of their own homes. These are some reasons that why the ACLU thinks that the laws of curfews don't
A false sense of security exists as one of the disadvantages of teenage curfews. Parents assume that when they force their children home at a certain time, they will not participate in anything immoral, but that is not always true. The Aspen Education Group states, “While a teenager staying out late can cause issues, it’s important not to use a curfew as a general answer to these possible problems” (Hatter 1). In realization, if teenagers obtain the desire to involve themselves in corrupt acts, they will find a way to do so no matter the time. Teenagers would feel more pressured to sneak out if their friends were participating in something that they could not be a part of due to their curfew. If parents rely on curfews to protect their children from negative activities, they will eventually notice teenagers contain their own willpower (Hatter 1).
So teens stay up late that doesn't mean that there should be a rule against it, or that you should punish them for that. Just because there's a curfew adults expect us teens to follow it. Adults think that since there's a certain time for teens to go home or stay inside that we're going to comply with it, no teens have the right to do what they please as long as they don't hurt anyone else in
According to McClain, Kansas City police and officials implemented a curfew for minors. This curfew restricts teenagers the rights that they’re are able to take part in. The curfew refuses teens the right to dine, watch movies, talk with friend, or walk around the plaza after 9 p.m. The curfew was implemented due to a shooting that occurred involving a number of teenagers. This article informs the reader that not only are teens having the freedoms that other people are able to enjoy taken away, but they are also being discriminated against because of their age. These restrictions are not only discriminative, but they’re unconstitutional. The 14th amendment to the constitution has a clause, called the Equal Protection Clause. The Equal Protection Clause states, “The constitutional guarantee that no person or class of persons shall be denied the same protection of the laws that is enjoyed by other persons or other classes in like circumstances in their lives, liberty, property, and pursuit of happiness” (thefreedictionary.com). The Equal Protection Clause also prevents a class of people from feeling inferior. This clause could easily be extended to teens as well because they are viewed as intellectually inferior by majority class. Adolescents are thought to be incapable of making an appropriate solution to a situation. This misconception has been formed due to parents and elderly people forcing children to follow strict rules and do as the parent or elderly person says; this prevents the child from creating their own solution to problems and causes the child to lack problem solving skill. The lack of problems solving skill could affect them more substantially in life, due to them no longer being minors and having their punishment more severe. Teens are widely regarded as trouble-makers, but they only cause trouble in their pursuit to experience life. Not only do curfews force children to
