Imagine having to stay up every single night just to go through a million stacks of papers. This is the life of a teacher, one of the most underpaid jobs, yet one of the world's most important jobs. Teachers are paid roughly $10,000 less than other professions requiring the same exact amount of schooling. “According to a recent study by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the teaching profession has an average national starting salary of $30,377. Meanwhile, NACE finds that other college graduates who enter fields requiring similar training and responsibilities start at higher salaries” (“NEA”). I believe teachers deserve higher pay because they work far beyond the normal working time, they make a huge impact in a child's lives, and soon there will be a huge shortage of educators.
First, I will explain one of the many reasons I feel teachers should be paid more. Full time teachers don't just complete their work in the classroom, they also bring home papers to grade and have class plans to make. Being a teacher's kid myself, I witness first hand the endless nights my mother spends doing extra classroom work after leaving her school. “My contract ends at 3:00, however, I rarely leave before 5:00 and still

They are there to guide the students through social and behavioral issues. Teachers also help the students by teaching them right from wrong. This lesson can be a very important aspect to a child's future. Students spend more waking hours with their teachers than they do with their parents during the school year. “American kids will spend an average of 943 hours in Elementary school” (Chalabi). It can also be said that many teachers serve as a second parent to most of their students. Some students come to school for a serene environment or to just get away from home. Having a positive and safe place to learn can make a big impact in a child's life and
Barber calls the reader 's attention to the low salary of teachers and how their wages need to rise. Although many people know about the salary issue for teachers, they often overlook
Can you imagine having a job for nine months out of the year that makes you work from 8:15 AM until 3:30 PM on every weekday and not getting paid for all of your hard, tedious work? To most of you that sounds ridiculous. That’s because it is. Students have to go through this painful process from September to May and usually don’t have anything to show for it. They dedicate their whole lives to getting all A’s on their report card and when they finally do all they usually get is a pat on the back. Thus, students should get paid for having good grades because it takes lots of hard work to get those grades, it would cause more students to strive for good grades, and it would eliminate the need for a job, which would allow for more studying time.
Taylor Mali, an American slam poet and teacher, wrote a poem titled, “What Teachers Make”. In this poem, he rhythmically tells about other professions criticizing teachers based on their choice of occupation. While teachers will never earn six figure incomes, they make a difference. Teachers dedicate their lives to leading, inspiring, and educating future generations, all while earning meager pay. Though teachers form foundation of education, their pay does not accurately represent their skills. Using merit pay systems will properly assess how much a teacher should be paid, based on their teaching ability.
The authors suggest that the low salary paid to teachers in the United States contributes to low expectations in instruction and a decrease in desire towards teaching jobs. By including this argument, Miller and Slocombe encourage that paying teachers a more attractive salary could improve students’ academic performance. Miller and Slocombe suggest structuring classrooms like businesses by introducing real-world interactions, providing incentives and constructive feedback, and encouraging students to be “effective team members”. These strategies suggested by the authors show that the authors care about the situation at hand, and that they aren’t just writing a negative essay. Providing meaningful strategies for readers to improve their situation connects the authors to the readers, establishing trust and a personal
When was the last time that you saw a teacher sporting off a brand new Lexus? Or when was it that you heard of a teacher owning a ranch? The answer to this question is probably never. Although material possessions such as owning a luxurious home or driving an extravagant car might be chump change for people like the rich and famous, for teachers this kind of spending is literally an arm and a leg. Even simple necessities are out of reach with a teacher’s salary. The reason for this problem is due to our nation’s budget. Teachers along with others in the school system are underpaid and are not being adequately compensated for their services. Instead of rewarding teachers with higher pay the government is undermining their work. As a result, teachers are unable to buy that expensive car or even pay off that Honda that they bought when they were in college working for their teaching degree. School budgets must be increased immensely in order to insure the educational growth of students and the professional development of teachers. There are four main reasons that are discussed in this paper, as to why more money should be spent on education.
There has been recent discussion on the fact that teachers get underpaid when they should be getting paid a substantial amount more for all of the things that they do to get our future generation into college and become successful. In this article you are going to understand the economic values of what a teacher has to go through. It is sad to see that a career that is so crucial to our country is one of the many jobs that gets paid minimum wage. If you have ever wanted to become a teacher in the United States then you must know that you can't be in that career path for the money, you have to be in it for the outcome of your students becoming successful. Different states in the U.S. have different wages for being a teacher.
There is no more critical role in our current society than that of a teacher’s. Teachers help shape the minds of the future. Tomorrow 's engineers, scientists, politicians, and educators are all greatly influenced by today 's Instructors. Without teachers society would not be anywhere near where it is now, and only a select few would have access to learning. Sadly however important teachers are in human civilization, they are still drastically understated, unrecognized and under paid. Although some people may argue that performance pay is good, performance/merit pay is bad because it will result in teachers doing much less personalizing of the curriculum, and spending that time doing only what things need to teach in order to keep their student’s
When I look back to my young developing stages in life, I always ask myself where would I be today if it wasn’t for my teachers? Teachers are the ones who build our future generations. Preparing children and teens for higher education. Also playing a huge part in shaping children’s lives, enlightening them, and educating them about society and the world around them; the types of things that a parent doesn’t have time for, or just lacks the knowledge of. I think teachers are what help make this world go round.
Teachers serve as the guiding force in a student’s life. They are responsible for molding a student’s personality and shaping his/her mental orientation. Teachers deeply impact our lives and direct the course of our future. One cannot deny the influence of teachers in one’s life. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that, till a certain age, out life revolves around our teachers. They are our constant companions, until we grow old enough to come out of their shadow and move ahead on our own.
Three out of four Americans believe that Students should not be paid for receiving good grades (Flannery). Going to school is the role of a child in their family. While some adolescents are motivated to learn on their own free will, a small portion of parents believes they should pay their children for success in school. They justify this argument by stating school is child’s job, therefore they should be paid for their achievements. This is an extremely defective strategy to teach students responsibility because children who are not paid are less prone to cheating, more likely to achieve long-term success, and are more driven that others who are rewarded.
Numerous students question why they must attend school. To motivate kids to work hard at school, parents often utilize money as an incentive. This practice has been a controversial topic for quite a while. To pay or not to pay, that is the question. It works like this: Student gets A’s and parent rewards them with cash.
“Otherwise we’re not going to raise the standard of teaching and invite a broader spectrum into the field – graduates who might otherwise have thought to become lawyers, doctors, or accountants. Teachers are the people who make the future Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and many other great and successful people that come to your mind. Without teachers nobody would have a path in life and not know basic skills that the average person needs to know. Say if America doubled the price of how much teachers made, which is $120,00 which would want teachers to actually work if america paid teachers the right amount of money for what they really do, schools would seek out better performing teachers which would definitely help students and in Washington Times. But there will always be those teachers who just work for money and not really because they find it a true dream of theirs and say if we gave this pay raise you might come to realize you will see more and more reports of bad teachers because it would become a higher paying job; lets be honest here, everyone works for money.
Devoted teachers are extremely important to a perfect education. The teacher is just about the most important of the three parties necessary to create a model education. Teachers have the responsibility of forming good relationships with both students and parents. Teachers must also be able to effectively communicate with both parents and students in order to ensure that there are no misconceptions or confusions about the children's educations. A good teacher is aware of any special needs that certain children may have and is able to help those children adjust to the curriculum accordingly. Although it may seem obvious, teachers need to be patient and empathetic when dealing with his or her students. The vast majority of teachers already possess these qualities. Many students, however, have complained of teachers that appear to have "no time" for their students. Teachers with an unenthusiastic attitude relay a negative feeling back to their students and that can create problems in the classroom. As mentioned earlier though, people usually won't become teachers if they are uninterested in providing an excellent education to their students.
I have decided to become a teacher because I love children. I enjoy watching them grow, and I want to make a difference in the lives of my students. As a teacher, I will do everything that I can to ensure that each becomes a productive, successful citizen in life. In order for me to obtain this goal, I will create a loving, positive, respectful, and safe learning environment where each student will be treated equally and be encouraged to do his or her best. Keeping this in mind, there are four elements that I must remember which includes (1) how young children develop, (2) what they should know and be able to do, (3) instructional strategies that I have learned, and (4) my feelings regarding parent involvement.
A teacher holds the key to knowledge, success, and fun. Every child deserves a teacher that understands and accommodates different
