There is a great debate about whether everyone should get participation trophies or not. Many people think participation trophies should be given out because it is not fair when the same kids win the trophies every time. Others think only the top teams/individuals should get trophies for winning. I believe students should not get participation trophies for school sports because it can be discouraging, it will make them try harder, and it takes away from the excitement of winning a trophy.

I understand that the younger aged children get upset when they see other people with trophies. Children need to learn from a young age that they need to work for what they want. When they get older, people aren't going to just hand them everything. It will make students want to work harder in practice, so they can perform at their best when game/competition time comes. By doing this, students have a better chance of winning a trophy. Every kid wants to get a trophy, but winning a trophy makes it a lot more special than getting one for participation. The hard work students put into their sport will help them to accomplish their goals.

Giving out participation trophies take away from the thrilling, lively emotion one feels when they win. In high school, it is a big deal to win a state championship, but if you gave a trophy to everyone who participated in the state tournament, it would take away from the excitement. Those kids worked hard to win, and it would be upsetting to see everyone else getting trophies alongside you.

To conclude, participation trophies should not be given out to kids in school sports. They can bring down self-confidence, encourage athletes to try harder by not giving them out, and they take away the glory of actually
