Should School Uniforms Be Worn

One of the most common things used in nearly every country is school uniforms. School uniforms have been used since the beginning of the 19th century so why change the ability to wear them now. There are many arguments as to whether or not school uniforms should be worn, and personally agreeing that students should wear school uniforms, there were many facts to back up that argument. Requiring students to wear school uniforms brings about better outcomes. To begin with, school uniforms help cut down bullying and the pressure on parents. Requiring uniforms would help reduce the victimization of students (Tatu and Palochko). This clearly shows how uniforms have a huge impact on kids and uniforms make it harder for them to pick on others based on what their wearing. Shelly Bartolacci, a learning support teacher at Easton Area High School addressed that, “Uniforms would put everyone on an even scale, although it takes away the freedom of how students want to dress” (Tatu and Palochko). Policy makers have reported a decline in violence in school for example, fighting, drugs, and robbery (McVeigh). (Example) This clearly shows that by having uniforms they change the environment. According to Larry Wilder, who spent 19 years at the Fresno County Office of Education, “The National School Board Association estimates that approximately 135,000 guns are brought to school each day (Wilson and McMahon). (Fact) This is one reason why schools enforce dress codes to ensure a safer environment. Another reason why they are enforced is so school staff have a better chance to point out who belongs on campus and who does not (McVeigh). If there was an instance where someone violent came to a school, it would be easy to point them out because they are not wearing the uniform and would easily stand out.
