Imagine your identity being stripped from you. All of your personality shown through your clothes, gone. This is how many students world wide feel about their school uniforms. You can tell a lot about a person by what they wear, If they’re rocking neon jeans and a printed button up, they are probably going to appeal to artistic people. If someone is wearing athletic shorts and tennis shoes, they’re going to be more into sports, but when everyone is dressed in the same, blan clothes, you won’t be able to pick up things about their personality than if they were dressed as themselves. Parents with financial issues would find it rather difficult to keep up with the cost of buying uniforms for their child(ren). Shirley Farrell says,“It’s a burden to parents who cannot afford two sets of clothes for each child. If a family cannot afford uniforms.” Public school is supposed to be free (with the exception of taxes), uniforms denounce that statement. Parents who are at a low financial state, shouldn't be forced to purchase uniforms. If that's what they wanted for their child, they would've gone to private school, but they didn't. Parents are not going to take their child out of school, but if they keep them in they are required to buy uniforms and that's not okay. As well as threatening family's financial state, rules enforcing uniforms also threaten citizens rights. Ferrell also agrees that “Rules enforcing school uniforms could possibly be civil rights violations, such as the right to free speech, right to privacy and freedom of religion.” Without the clothes you wear, you cannot express yourself. Everything that physically shows your personality is gone. You can express your opinions with your clothes as well, but with uniforms, that's gone too. Religion can be shown on a t-shirt, but if you can't wear that t-shirt, there goes your freedom of religion. Obviously, uniforms cause more harm than they do
