Everyone is an Athlete

Should participation in organized school athletics be required? Sports have been tracked all the way back to the beginning of civilization; sports such as soccer, jousting, and horseback riding were popular during this time. Today we play many sports ranging from swimming to gliding. In school, sports have not only helped in maintaining physical fitness, but have also provided profitable jobs for people everywhere. On the contrary, I believe participation in organized school athletics should not be required.

The first reason is that not all people have a love or desire to play a sport. To illustrate this, if you circumnavigated the globe in search for two people that were exactly the same you would never find them. Furthermore, this shows that since no two people are alike, not everyone will enjoy playing sports. Similar to how not everyone appreciates academic studies. Because of this, all the people who are forced to participate in a sport will be unmotivated; in turn, they will not perform as highly as those who enjoy playing sports. This will result in terrible teams unable to compete.

The second reason to support my position is that forced participation will create overcrowded teams. A single school can only hold so many students, if everyone was required to join a sport, the teams …show more content…

Suggesting that, forcing participation will ensure physical fitness in all students. Nevertheless, there are many other activities that ensure physical fitness without being forced into it, like physical education, wellness, and dance. In addition, this variety of choices allows for a student to be comfortable and flourish in their chosen course.
