Some people may argue that kids should receive participation trophies, however some think they should not. Why should kids keep getting participation trophies if they did not win anything? In general sports there is only one winner they don't get participation trophies, so why should kids. Even though kids are young and have low self-esteem, not receiving a participation trophy can drive them to achieve one that is earned. Although some might think that kids should receive participation awards, what about? The whole idea of participation trophies is false. Kids shouldn't be rewarded for losing something that cannot teach them anything. Kids should be rewarded for winning and achieving something great. Kids often like to compete and win, but there are some who don't. The act of receiving a trophy for not doing anything is preposterous. Winning trophies for not doing anything can drive a kid to think that losing is satisfactory in life, which it is not. If one has many trophies for participation, they are clearly fine with it. Based on the text it states, “Playing and working hard may not lead to success later in life because of the competitive world we live in; but no one has ever been prosperous by failing to work hard from the start.” This assists the fact that participation trophies are a sign of awarding the actions of kids for losing and not doing great. Furthermore, it states how being fine with participation trophies can affect later life. One may say well kids put in work to be good athletes, they deserve something. That is not necessarily true because if they put in work, they are doing it to win, not to receive a participation trophy. As the text states that, “These kids dedicate time, effort and enthusiasm, and they deserve to have something tangible to make them feel that their participation was worthwhile. It could be the only form of athletic recognition they ever receive.” Just because kids put in plenty of work drives them to feel like they deserve a participation trophy.
