Should Toyota be held responsible when a drunk driver causes a car accident? Likewise, should gun manufacturers be held responsible for gun-related deaths? There are many people who believe that gun manufacturers should be held liable. If gun manufacturers aren’t the ones pulling the trigger then why should they be held accountable? There are many laws that have been made and established that make it clear when a manufacturer would be held liable. Therefore, gun manufacturers should not be held responsible for criminal gun-related deaths because they do not have control over people’s personal responsibility and laws are set to prevent such liability.

This rationale is problematic. When a criminal intentionally points a gun at someone and kills them, they should be held responsible for their actions and face the consequences. A gun manufacturer is not going to make someone pull the trigger; they just make and sell the product. When someone buys a weapon, or gets ahold of a weapon, they have a choice and have control over their own actions.
You do not hold the automobile manufacturer responsible for someone who gets into a car accident. So why would you hold the gun manufacturer responsible? When a company sells a gun to someone, they do not know what their intentions are. It is the same in the automobile industry as well. They do not know if they are going to be selling a car to someone who is a reckless driver or is going to drive home drunk that night and get into an accident.
