Should Toyota be held responsible when a drunk driver causes a car accident? Likewise, should gun manufacturers be held responsible for gun-related deaths? There are many people who believe that gun manufacturers should be held liable. If gun manufacturers aren’t the ones pulling the trigger then why should they be held accountable? There are many laws that have been made and established that make it clear when a manufacturer would be held liable. Therefore, gun manufacturers should not be held responsible for criminal gun-related deaths because they do not have control over people’s personal responsibility and laws are set to prevent such liability.
There is a myth surrounding gun manufacturers and a perception the industry is not held accountable for their actions. In fact they are held accountable

This rationale is problematic. When a criminal intentionally points a gun at someone and kills them, they should be held responsible for their actions and face the consequences. A gun manufacturer is not going to make someone pull the trigger; they just make and sell the product. When someone buys a weapon, or gets ahold of a weapon, they have a choice and have control over their own actions.
You do not hold the automobile manufacturer responsible for someone who gets into a car accident. So why would you hold the gun manufacturer responsible? When a company sells a gun to someone, they do not know what their intentions are. It is the same in the automobile industry as well. They do not know if they are going to be selling a car to someone who is a reckless driver or is going to drive home drunk that night and get into an accident. The liability and responsibility of what happens after the product is legally sold to a customer, it is now the customer’s
Guns have possessed the spotlight of almost every news station. From the latest tragedy of a shooting killing innocent men, women and children to the arguments centering around if our gun laws possess strict enough qualities to keep our country safe. Charles C. W. Cooke, the author of “Gun-Control Dishonesty”, spreads his conservative view on the topic by ripping away any hope for a brighter day. Cooke’s main idea states that if nothing has happened to make gun law more strict even after the lives of innocent children were mercilessly ripped away from their young bodies than nothing should or could ever change. On the other hand, Adam Gopnik wrote his article, “Shooting”, uses a more liberal approach and inspires his audience to act upon the much needed change in our society
Tragedy after tragedy, people find themselves mourning over the lives lost. And over and over again, they look back to see how they could have prevented it. People continue to argue and constantly debate what actions should be taken, and while doing so, more and more people lose their lives at the hands of gun violence. It’s clear to see that not much has been done to keep these weapons out of the wrongs hands: the shootings at Columbine High School and Virginia Tech have shown that. What would happen if there were to be another devastating shooting to occur? How would people react? Or would they just argue some more, while the wrong people can still easily get a hold of guns? The only way they can ever gain control of anything is by controlling the source of the problem, where people are able to freely purchase guns without restrictions. In order to reduce gun-related crime, unlicensed gun sellers should be required to run background checks on their customers.
There have been several incidents where a child in the household has mistaken a gun for a toy and have mortally wounded himself and others with it. There have also been occasions where careless gun owners have left their guns loaded and have accidentally shot someone. Studies have shown that four people die each day due to accidental gun fire. Anti-gun users have pointed out that states that have relaxed their gun laws have had an increases in homicides. Also just because its anyone’s right to own a gun does not mean that they went through any sort of training to be able to use that gun. Most anti-gun users argue that most of these people who buy guns need to be properly trained before they can operate a gun, in order to prevent innocent and unnecessary harm or
More Americans are killed annually from opioid overdose deaths or from gun violence than from car crashes, and this in a nation with a not-great record of automotive safety. Are we to conflate guns and opioids with automobiles? Yes, cars can kill people, but these are what we call accidents. Opioids can cause respiratory arrest and death, but these are “accidental” overdoses. What are we to call deaths at the hands of gunmen? “People killing people”, or “the lack of a good man with a gun negating the effect of a bad man with a
The Ethics of Gun Control The phrase "Gun Control" means different things to different people. One bumper sticker states that "Gun Control means hitting your target." However one defines gun control, the mere mention of it brings controversy.
McMahan, the author of the New York Times editorial, includes why the United States should rid private ownership of guns completely or as much as possible. He explains tactful points as to why guns cause more bad then good when privately owned. “When most citizens are armed, as they were in the Wild West, crime doesn’t cease. (McMahan)” Allowing anyone to receive gun ownership is the same as putting a helpless baby in a lion’s den. Prior to the editorial an accident occurred in Newtown, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Twenty year old Adam Lanza, killed his mother and then grabbed three privately owned guns from his house. He later went to Sandy Hook elementary school where he shot and killed twenty kids age’s six to seven as well as six adults. Once approached by officers Adam Lanza took a shotgun and killed himself. "It's horrible. It's really ho...
“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the Constitution itself. Gun control laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration. Even if that issue is overlooked, gun control advocates state that in order to reduce firearm related violence, gun control laws must be implemented to remove the violence caused by firearms. Although this may seem reasonable, the consequences of such laws are ironically counterproductive; they exacerbate the problem instead of fixing it. Besides the fact that the American Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to bear arms, the idea of restricting gun ownership in order to reduce firearm-related violence would ultimately fail given the previous experiments of gun control in England and in numerous states.
B) Thesis statement: Gun control is a huge epidemic for the United States of America. The second amendment. The second amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Which states that American citizens can be able to carry firearms. I am against gun control because they are too many instincts when a mass shooting will happen and it could have been promoted with strict gun control laws. For example on July 20, 2012 a mass shooting happened at the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. It occurred at a midnight premiere for The Dark Knight Rises a gunman named James Eagan Holmes through tear gas in the crowd and shot
One of the most important aspects of the debate centered on gun legislature is the distribution of illegal firearms to felons, criminals and American youth. Witemute’s article hints that there have been several illegal gun sales from unauthorized markets and to those under the legal ages of 18 or 21 depending on the type of firearm being sold. Unfortunately, these illegal sales have resulted in an increase in gun related injuries and deaths. (55)
Ultimately, it is a person’s choice to use firearms to commit violent crimes. So criminals should be controlled, not the guns which they share with millions of law-abiding citizens. Gun control supporters claim that gun control lowers crime rate. We as people need to take a stand and fight for our Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. Gun control advocates need to realize that passing laws that honest gun owners will not obey is a self-defeating strategy. Gun owners are not about to surrender their liberties or their right to bear arms. The Federal Govement of the United States should not be able to take away the right of law-abiding citizens to own a gun.
There is one thing about gun control that not many people understand, it doesn’t apply to the “bad guys.” Some might argue that with gun control, criminals
Because of this man’s actions, many lives were saved. Without having guns in the hands of responsible citizens, many more incidents such as this one could take place. As it has since been stated earlier, gun control is not mandating the removal of guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens, but teaching the proper ways to store, manage, and use a gun responsibly. In America, restricting the ownership of guns to citizens should be prohibited. Although there are many people who oppose private ownership of firearms, what they don 't realize is that firearms can also protect their lives. When guns are in the hands of responsible individuals, they can benefit their own lives as well as the lives of those who cannot protect themselves or for just recreational purposes. However, there are many deaths caused by guns, but the amount of deaths prevented with gun use outweighs them tremendously. Also, the smart gun and training courses could prevent many of these deaths. “Nearly two million more crimes are prevented with guns than are ‘caused’ by guns” (Connell). Ultimately, guns in America have a huge impact on our life and many benefits are overlooked. After reviewing all the research, it is clear to see the many benefits of having guns prominently used in our society. Not only do guns protect the lives of
Specific Purpose Statement: To persuade my audience that each individual must take responsibility for his or her own actions. The must not blame guns for problems caused by people. .
The lawmakers of today make laws and they don’t think about the decisions they make from both perspectives. They may say it’s all right to own a handgun but they may have different intentions than the user has on how and why they need one. The owner may need one for their protection but the lawmaker may think it’s for hunting or something other than it causing violence. To ensure these guns are not being used for violence the law needs to make a set of rules and regulations on the conditions of guns. How to use them/abuse them need to be the number one law. It should state guns are not intended to be used for violence of no kind. The law need to enforce the laws they make to ensure proper safety it would eliminate half of the gun violence.
We don’t hold a match responsible for arson or a camera responsible for pornography. We rightly hold the people who misuse these tools liable. The same should be true for guns.”
