Crickets, they are so noisy and quick they are pretty scary; but have you ever considered eating them. Even though crickets can come off as pretty disgusting they can be very nutritious for the students growth, and helpful for the environment. Now you might be saying why go through the trouble of making cricket meals or snacks, when you can get a lot tastier foods from the store. However crickets are very cheap and aren’t that hard to find at stores near you, this has been helping the switch for other schools a lot easier. We should think about adding crickets to school lunches to provide a healthier, cleaner, and cheaper community.
One reason crickets should be added to school lunches is that they are very nutritious and helpful at helping students perform and grow better. Crickets are very high in protein, calcium, potassium, and even iron and zinc. Some people might say “chicken must give a lot more proteins and minerals” but really that’s false. From a cricket inspired company called Aketta they state that “crickets are 2.08x more efficient in feed conversion than chicken.”. Feed conversion is “a measure of how efficient an animal is at converting feed into

increases of desired output. With lower numbers meaning greater efficiency in converting feed to product,”. With all these minerals and proteins kids have the ability to get stronger muscles, and healthier immune systems. When these kids get all this energy from the crickets they will be more active in class and more focused helping them learn more. Now that we know crickets are better for the students, what about the environment?
When raising cows, pigs, and chickens they take up a lot of land, food, and water. But what about crickets. Crickets take up a fraction of all those resources. Not only that but they also produce less greenhouse gas and ammonia. These gasses can be very harmful for the planet and us humans. Considering that crickets are one of earths untapped resources it can help preserve our world longer. In an article by NBC News they state “The world's population is creeping up on 7.5 billion, but estimates suggest we'll have a whopping 9 billion mouths to feed by 2050.”. But with crickets we could change that, unless you wanna be feeding ur students a fraction of their food or just salads every day, I would make the switch to
crickets. Now that we know how they benefit the environment and us humans is it worth the money to change? When ordering one full chicken it can cost you up to 9 dollars, but crickets are much cheaper. From the company Flukers you can buy 5,000 crickets for 64 dollars, that’s compared to the price of only 7 chickens. Think about how many more kids you could feed and how much money you could save. Now only that but imagine how much little space those crickets will take compared to the chickens. With all these crickets you could make it into a powder substance and put it into food or you could just serve them as is, this still gives you endless options on the food diversity day to day Why go through all the trouble if the school is doing just fine? Well it’s simple with all the extra money you will have lying around you will have the ability to invest in new playgrounds, new whiteboards, and even new classrooms. So let’s make the move to help the school economy and the daily life of the students at our school and to create a healthier generation to come.
The Cockroach (Blaptica Dubai) was obtained from the laboratory personnel at UNM. The cricket (Acheta domesticus) was purchased from a pet store in Albuquerque called Clark’s Emporium. The cockroach was raised in an opaque plastic box that contained egg shell cartons. The roaches were in a room temperature environment. Every day they were fed dog food, vegetables and provided with adequate amounts of water provided by polysaccharide water crystals. The Cricket was maintained in a glass tank with eggshell cartons at room temperature. They were fed “Total Bites” once a day. Total Bites are gel food that provided them with both nutrients and water.
“More than 76 percent of schools sell soft drinks and sweetened fruit drinks, but fewer than half offered bottles water. Fewer than 15 percent sell low-fat or nonfat yogurt, and fewer than one third order skim milk. Only 25 percent of schools say they've reduced fats and oils in recipes.”(Spake, 2). Choices at lunch range from greasy to unidentifiable. Most students eat school lunches five days a week. So most of the food they eat throughout the week comes from the school cafeteria. Although, the schools do tend to offer healthy choices such as salads, subs, skim milk, and unlimited fruits and vegetables. “Each week Phoenix students are served a variety of fruits and vegetables from guava to grapes and jicima to red peppers. School officials hope that by exposing children to fruits and vegetable they may develop a taste for them and request their parents to buy them.”(Bailey, 1). Real meat is becoming an issue in schools. “According to reports issued by the Physicians Committee for responsible Medicine (PCRM) the USDA dumps hundreds of millions of pounds of surplus beef, chicken, cheese, and pork on the National School lunch Program.”(Lord, 42). Chicken isn't whole white meat; some of it doesn't even taste like meat! Let’s move on to unhealthy foods. There are unlimited amounts of un...

Education plays a dominant role in the lives of students all over the United States. Since most students spend roughly eight to twelve hours in school, it is important to make sure that they are provided with a healthy and nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack.
To conclude, unhealthy foods in the cafeteria and the vending machines are the worst examples for the kids to maintain the healthy eating habits. Us Parents have to step in to make changes for our kids because in doing so would determine what kind of foods our kids are consuming. We do know for facts they are not getting the proper nutrients while in school, although they do spend in average of eight to 12 hours in schools. We, the parents, can start to make a difference, by attending the school meetings and being active in our kids functions in schools.
I feel like there should be a change in the school lunch menus. I did some research regarding school lunches and other people agree with the fact that school lunches should be changed. The school meat is very horrific and i feel that it is not safe for students to digest it. For example the government found out ingredients in the chicken sandwich had dozens of ingredients including MSG. MSG is very bad for students because it causes allergic reactions, upsets the stomach, and it causes muscle tightness and fatigue. Toxic GMO or Genetically Modified Organisms are all over school food. The corn that they feed students are mostly GM corn, which the purpose of it is to kill pests by bursting the stomach of bugs who feed on the corn. By letting
According to School Lunches: Healthy Choices vs. Crowd Pleasers, Amanda Lanser schools were wrong.“Schools could include students in making decisions about what fruits and vegetables are served at lunch”. If schools did a vote about what fruits and vegetables kids would want provided at school more kids would eat the foods. The reason why kids might not eat the healthiest food is because they don’t like those types of vegetables and fruits. Studies show that when kids have a healthy lunch they perform better in school than the kids who don’t. Kids should have a say in the healthy item that are provided in school. In conclusion kids should be able to choose healthier foods they are
I propose that we should have a variety of foods to select from. Food that does not come from a box and has to be unfrozen before serving the students. Being a student myself I can speak for the students on how they would much rather buy fast food from the street or buy junk food from anyone selling because of how bad the school lunches are.
If you had a choice between a burger and a bowl of crickets, I think I would know which you choose to eat. As disturbing as this sounds, in the near future we may not have that choice. With our annual protein consumption rising, and Europe’s protein sources decreasing, coupled with a growing population, we may have only one alternative… Insects.
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
Have you ever tasted school cafeteria food? I don’t think you would want to. In school story books, do you have characters saying that the food tasted good at school cafeterias? Nope. Why is this? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, advanced lunch system should be implemented.
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
With the blooming development of science and technology, mobile phones have become an indispensable part of life. The increasing number of teenagers who use a cell phone in schools which disrupts classrooms orders has become a major concern. However, mobile phones should not be banned in schools. Actually, it is not necessary to ban mobile phones in schools. Additionally, using mobile phones in schools has some positive influences. Furthermore, it is likewise a human right for students.
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
There is no doubt that almost all people in developed country using mobile phones, from teen until old peoples. They are using mobile phones for business communication, keeping contact with family and friends, and even just followed the trends. This essay will focus on using mobile phones in elementary and high schools. There are many disadvantages of using mobile phones in school such as, students use mobile phones for cheating, as well as that can destroy concentration while study in classroom. It also be shown that other electronic devices to facilitate student while study at schools. However, this essay will argue that mobile phones should be banned in schools.
