In modern day society, the act of pollution is negatively impacting the earth’s environment in several ways, such as the contamination of the earth’s air, water and natural resources. As the environment begins to suffer from such pollution, someone needs to take a stand in order to make a positive impact on the earth. This dissertation examines the reasons why Christians should take action regarding the environment and its preservation or restoration. By conducting research regarding this subject, the reasons supporting this topic became clear. Water pollution can affect a farmer’s ability to grow nutritious crops for personal and human consumption. Water seems to be an abundant resource, but drinkable water is becoming very limited. Unfortunately, this precious resource is easily contaminated by agricultural runoff, mining activities, waste treatment plants and improperly disposed-of industrial waste (Wieman, 2014, para.3). Water is a valuable resource that is used to fulfill human needs and to replenish nature which provides food and nourishment for the human race. As God commanded in Genesis 1, Christians are to be caretakers of the environment. The one area of the environment that seems to be overlooked is humans. Humans are a part of the environment, according to the definition given by Women’s and Children’s Health Network. The environment is everything in the world around us that surrounds and affects all life on earth, including the air, food chains, the water cycle, plants, animals and other humans (WCHN, 2013). Christians have more important commandments than the environment to be focused on such as the Great Commission, which is one of the major commands and responsibilities given by God for His children. The Great Commission is found in Matthew 28:16-20,
