Moreover and further studies have been done examining the significance of wearing school uniforms. Ever wonder what it would look like to have all students wearing the same white polo shirt, black pants, and a district sweater walking in the hallway? Nowadays, public school and many districts are discussing the possibilities of enforcing the uniform policy. In most places, many private schools already require students to have their mandatory uniforms; however, there are only a few public schools adopting this mandatory school-uniform polices as one of their enrollment requirements. The reason why not all public schools participated was because people believe that they are violating the freedom of choice when enforcing this mandatory uniform policy; yet problems such as bullying and segregation, emerged in these schools. Some people still think uniforms have no benefits at all. However, all public school students should be required to wear uniforms because it would improve the academic performance, reduce the violent behaviors based on appearance judgment, and provide less stress for both parents and students.
Every year parents, students and teachers argue about the issue of applying school uniform, and if it is going to be put into effect or not. Each year, school dress code is being pushed away. Year after year, to help stop violent behavior and encourage order in schools, dress codes are applied. Does the fact of students having to wear a certain dress code reduce the violent behavior and encourage order in schools? (“The Controversial School Uniforms and School Dress Code Debate”, 2008). Research shows, that dress code policies may increase the chance of a child safety in school by a very low percentage, but that still affects the child in a positive way (“Do uniforms make schools better?”, 2004).
There have been a lot of people in the United States debating on whether or not wearing school uniforms since centuries ago. In the United States, most public schools do not require to wear uniforms. However, students are required to wear uniforms in private schools. While in most of the countries, either in a public or private school, require to wear uniforms. They even have summer and winter uniforms according to the weather. There are some pros and cons of wearing uniforms. Most of the people think that wearing uniforms can help student decrease the rate of gang activity, and behave well in school. However, some of the parents think that wearing the uniform do not have their children’s individual rights. Some of the students think it suffocated to wear the uniforms. The down-sides are the expenses of buying uniforms for poor people, and violating freedom of expression. However, the students should wear school uniform because it helps prevent gangs from forming on campus, encourage discipline, improve the learning skills.
Some students believe that wearing school a uniform is ridiculous because they wear the same kind or color of dress every day and do not have the chance to show how beautiful or handsome they are. This situation creates conflict between students. In order to avoid this unacceptable environment, school uniform should be worn in public schools because they reduce social boundaries between students. For instance, when students all wear uniforms, there is no obligation to wear expensive dress for those who cannot afford that or buy. Everyone is dressing alike. No student would be considered special simply because of the way he or she dressed. So, students have less distraction because they are not concerned about what others are wearing. Then, students are not afraid to come to school because everyone has the same clothes. Therefore, the attendance increases because some students are not ashamed of their clothes and are proud to go to school.
As many as 95% of elementary, middle and high schools require uniforms for students in China. It has had mandatory school uniform requirement for almost all students who study in public schools. In this paper I will discuss why school uniforms is required for students. Actually, requiring students wear uniforms causes several problems. This paper firstly will discuss the advantages of wearing school uniforms and secondly present the problems of uniforms common in China. Finally I will give my proposal for a solution, which is that wearing school uniforms should be optional.
It has been observed that the adoption of school uniform policies can promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance the learning environment. The potential benefits of school uniforms include decreasing violence and theft. Some instances involving designer clothing and expensive sneakers have even led to life-threatening situations among students. Uniforms would also prevent gang members from wearing gang colors and insignia at school. Uniforms would also teach students discipline and help them resist peer pressure. Uniforms would also help students concentrate on their schoolwork and would help school officials detect intruders who come unwelcome into the school.
The argument whether uniforms should be implemented in school has been debated over the last few decades. By implementing a uniform policy within schools would help reduce the rise of violent crimes. In today’s high schools, too many innocent youths become fatalities due to gang warfare that has spread into the school system. Many parents feel that if a uniform policy was implemented , the spread of gang warfare and the idea that children have to have name brand clothing would decrease drastically. However others are worried that this policy would infringe on students First Amendment Rights with expressing themselves. Many parents are worried that the uniforms will cost too much and they will only burden their economic status. Uniforms will either give the school strength or separate the students and parents from the administration.
Many students lose self esteem when they can’t express themselves. Therefore students should not be required to wear uniforms. This is necessary because most students would like to show their style and technique. In addition, uniforms limit the freedom of expression for students in school. Furthermore, uniforms are expensive and parents may not be able to afford clothing that can be worn at school and home. Finally, students should not be forced to wear
If a complete stranger were to ever go onto a campus, staff members would be able to distinguish the intruder because everyone would be wearing the same thing. The intruder would be easier to spot among the crowd. Uniforms also create safety when a group of children go on field trip. It is easy for one student to get distracted and lose the group. However, when the teacher tries to find the student and speaks to the officials about the lost child, the student will be easy to identify because he or she will be wearing a school uniform. School uniforms have been proven to decrease violence in a school setting as well. The article, “School Uniforms: a qualitative analysis of aims and accomplishments at two Christian School,” provides an example by saying, “ Long Beach Unified School District was one of the first and largest districts in the United States to mandate school uniforms in 1994, and after one year the district reported improvements in student behavior…” (Firmin et al., 2006). Students get a sense of pride, tend to behave better, treat staff and each other with
School uniforms should be part of the school systems, because statistics had shown that students who wear uniforms are doing better than dress codes. More students also feel a sense of equality among each other and there are fewer judgments of others. It allows teacher quickly to identify people who do not belong in the building and limit the ways that gangs can identify themselves. School outfit provides students identity, individual spirit, and pride. Uniforms are increasing throughout different schools. School uniforms make students look more formal, and progressively affects student’s self-esteem, discipline, and safety, and develops students be more confident of what they can achieve in life.
By requiring school uniforms in public schools, education will be improved. A dress code will enforce discipline toward learning. Uniforms improve a person’s outlook toward success. Students generally act the way they are dressed. With fewer distractions, students see the school as a workplace for teaching and learning. Students also have less stress in their lives because they are not in a fashion competition. Dress codes also lead to a change in grades. Mainly this happens because the student’s attendance comes up. There is also a change in grades because it is easier to focus when everyone looks alike.
A major reason that schools should have uniforms is because students will get along better. They wouldn’t compare each other based on whose wearing what. This is opposed to a school with no uniform some students will feel inferior to the one’s wearing brand name clothes. Also uniforms lower the chances of jealousy between the students. The students would feel more unified with each other. Further more school uniforms can alleviate school violence, because it will help kids with less money escape the teasing they would get if the school had no uniforms. Also uniforms will help differentiate students from gan...
Have you ever considered why students should wear a school uniform? For a long time, scholars have debated worldwide, whether students should wear a school uniform or not. After a lot of research, I can evidently see that people still have diverse opinions about this subject as some people think school uniform is essential, some are just fine with its existence, and some think it is useless.
Nevertheless, some student believes that School uniforms become boring because the uniform seems that it has a lot of tools of wearing and has one formal clothes. But, students would like to wear what they want. The same colors of the uniform for five days with the absence of variety. It can become quite depressing in association with their University. Hilfer said that “using a Student uniform was not significantly correlated with any of the school commitment variables such as absenteeism, behavior, or substance use (drugs). In addition, students wearing uniforms did not appear to have any significantly different from academic preparedness, pro-school attitudes, or peer group structures with pro-school attitudes than other students”. In contrast, university uniform generally establishes uniqueness of academic institute that makes the students be proud of their university. It also allows me to university’s affection and our responsibilities as students in our educational institution. The Uniform is one of the reasons that I love to go to university and be proud of his or her institution. Although university uniforms will sometimes hinder the students from the freedom of a child’s unique expression. A school primary objective is to educate; however, it is also a place for socialization as well, where clothes play a role in day to day interactions (Challen ,2016).Therefore, the students
With uniforms, it may restrict the desire for students to dress themselves to impress or stand out. Wearing something they are comfortable with and what they love may increase their confidence level and not curb their creativity. Sometimes when students had to obey the rules and regulations, they might feel locked up inside as they cannot really express themselves. This case can lead to several discipline cases as a student can act aggressively since they think the need to wear uniforms will cut off their
