people. History of the Cross In these events, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and other health services to help families and communities get back to normal. Although the Red Cross is not a government agency, it is an essential part of the response when disaster strikes .You may wonder how the American Red Cross began, well there is one particular person who started it all and her name is Clara Barton and of course her co-workers. The Cross was found in Washington D.C on May 21st, 1881. Clara's first heard of the Swiss-inspired global Red Cross network while visiting Europe after the Civil War (History). The American Red Cross is a charity that helps and supports people and the only reason they do this work is because they care for people so deeply . The American Red Cross is an organization that provides emergency assistance and disaster relief and education in the United States. It is the designated US affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Red Cross). The American Red Cross also provides many programs such Blood donation, CPR, BLS and AED training and Babysitting/childcare etc. These programs that they provide opportunities for people and also a second chance for people who have lost so much due to incidents such as house fires, natural disasters. The Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and mental health services to help families and entire communities get back on track after a tragedy. Although the Red Cross is not a government based organization (Red Cross). Basically the American Red Cross helps people would have suffered or need assistance, it may not even be health related assistance, the Cross helps with childcare and babysitting. The people who benefit from the American Red Cross is anyone who needs help or care. Structure of the Cross Clara Barton was a magnificent lady who was selfless and caring, Clara was a pioneering nurse who founded the Red Cross and she was also a nurse during the Civil War and a teacher as well as a Patient Clerk. Clara Barton had no fear, she just cared for others, here's a quote from Clara. "I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them." "The patriot blood of my father was warm in my veins." "The surest test of discipline is its absence." These heroic words stated by Clara prove all she wanted to do was help and bring people up and not push them down. The attitude Clara has passed on is the reason the American Red Cross has saved so many lives. The American Red Cross is not in it for the money they want to help with anything they can such as shelter, food, health and mental health services to help families and entire communities get back on their feet. You may think the American Red Cross is funded by the government, in some circumstances they do. For example, The Red Cross receives government money because the government has contracted the Red Cross to carry out some aspect of relief efforts (Red Cross). From the information above is sounds as if the Red Cross is funded by the government but really is funded by the donations of the people as well as cost recovery fees that are charged for some services. The American Red Cross distributes it's earning, well they have fundraisers and blood drives etc. According to the American Red Cross the Percent of the charity’s total expenses spent on the programs and services, it delivers 90.1%. Here are some others, Administrative Expenses 3.8%, Fundraising Expenses 5.9%,Fundraising Efficiency $0.21, Working Capital Ratio (years) 0.25, Program Expenses Growth -5.1%, Liabilities to Assets 54.2%" (Red Cross). As you can see mainly all of their earnings go to services to help people. This graph shows the American Red Cross’s expenses through hurricane Sandy. As you can see the things money was put toward things like food/shelter, Physical/ Mental health services, or disaster vehicles (Red Cross). This is a photograph of what the donations are like at the American Red Cross. What the data is showing is that mostly donations are for aid for the people in need and as well as fundraisers, such as blood drives. The other of course is for the administration. The administration get less as the data shows, because most of the money is for the care of other who have suffered. Reasons to Support the Cross American Red Cross is beneficial because after a natural disaster it gives people a second chance after such a tragic event. The American Red Cross also provides with blood drives which save lives all around the country. This charity should keep going because its gives people a second chance after have their lives torn apart. This organization basically just saves people all around. American red cross benefits everyone, this is an organization who cares and supports others. The American Red Cross’s main job is to help others and they do by training people in things that people benefit from. Such as CPR, AED and BLS training and blood drives. I think that one of the most successful things the American Red Cross does is their blood drives. Over all the blood drives just save people in a big way. What donating blood does is that it brings the American Red Cross a family oriented community, because donating blood is a caring act, and a caring environment brings people together. Here’s a story of how a young boy named Deren helped out at an American Red Cross blood drive. Deren was one of hundreds from the Chicago area who ventured into the cold to participate in the blood drive. Winter is especially important as donations typically decrease during this time of year, creating a greater need. Despite this, the Jan. 20 drive collected a record amount of more than 620 units. Someone is in need of a blood transfusion every 2 seconds in the U.S., and the Red Cross provides approximately 40% of the nation’s blood supply. An adult gives about one pint of blood during a donation and that amount alone has the potential to save up to three lives. Blood is needed for patients with various medical conditions such as accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. “You can save a life with your donation,” Deren said. “We all need blood one day; it’s free, and your body will make it again (Red Cross Stories).” In conclusion, the American Red Cross is a charity that saves life and puts communities and people back on there feet, it gives them a second chance after such a horrible event. Just picture a young boy, his home just burned to the ground, he has lost all of his things all of his childhood memories gone after one single flame. The American Red Cross will be there for that child in need. The evidence above proved that the American Red Cross is an organization full of compassion for your families. You can always rely on the American Red Cross.
Since he had so much downtime he had added his name to a volunteer list of emergency ambulance calls. Gary and his wife had lived in very small prairie town in the middle of of a farm country. He recalls that he has seen at least a dozen heart attack victims in the last year. Sometimes the distance were so long that he could not make it. If he did they had to wait at most an hour or maybe longer for the flight for life helicopter. One day he can remember was one day a woman called and said” quick it's my Harvey he is having chest pains again”. He got in the car should of got there in twenty minutes but he got there fourteen by driving like a crazy person. Then saw the man with a weird smile as if trying to say sorry for the difficulty. The wife had also gave him a look like thank god you're here save him please the gray look on him was bad. When he tried to put him on his back he jolted for some reason as if he was getting hit by electricity became stiff and fell on the ground. He told the wife to call for the chopper. Then bent

As he looked at the picture, his eyes welled up with tears. It was a picture of him with his little sister, whom he would never play with again. Being only nine years old, he had not been through the deaths of any family members, except for his grandma he never even met, who passed away only months after he was born. But this tragedy turned him into an emotional wreck, as he would never be with his four year old sister again. It all happened in a heartbeat, he woke up on the first day of Spring Break and found his little sister lying silent in her bed, not breathing. And now, two days later, he finds himself at her funeral. The picture that stood out was of him and his sister showing off the vegetables they had picked in their garden

Solomon was rapidly driving down the road on a dark, wet day. He was visibly angry and wore a scowl on his face, teeth clenched and eyes narrowed. Solomon heard an important message on his phone, so he reached behind his seat to grab it. While he was distracted, his truck slammed into a large pool of water in the road and hydroplaned into a metal guardrail. His truck smashed the guardrail and flipped twice before careening down a steep, muddy hill. Solomon closed his eyes and breathed a deep sigh, almost as if life had stopped for an instant. He briefly pondered over what had lead up to this event and how afraid he was of dying prematurely. This event is important because it illustrates an important message for many people, you never know
As I walked in to their bedroom, I found my mother sitting on the bed, weeping quietly, while my father lay on the bed in a near unconscious state. This sight shocked me, I had seen my father sick before, but by the reaction of my mother and the deathly look on my father’s face I knew that something was seriously wrong.
...m crying on his dads shoulder. “Mom! Dad! I'm back!” He yells, but they don't seem to hear him. He runs up them and goes to grab his mom, but his hand passes through her. He tries to grab his dad but like his mom his hand passes through him also. “Mom! Dad! Look! I'm back! I'm alive!” he screams. Tears stream down his dads face and his mother sobs into his fathers chest. “Why! Why! Why did he have to die!” His mother screamed into his dads chest. “I don't know” His dad whispers in response “I don't know”. Jason starts to scream louder and louder, “I'm alive! See!” He points to himself but his arm seems to be fading, he looks down at his body. It's not just his arm, he is fading. “Mom! Dad!” He cries. “Mom. Dad?” Jason says for the last time as he fades away into nothing.
Then the phone rang and Dad answered it. It was hard to tell what the conversation was about, it did not last long and Dad didn’t say much. When he hung up he was quiet. Then Mom asked, “Who was that, honey?” Blunt and to the point he said, “Grandma,” (his mom) “Grandpa got sick last night.” Suddenly I was not hungry any more. “What’s that mean?” Mom asked, taking the words right out of my mouth. Dad did not really know. All Grandma said was that Grandpa got up in the night, went to the bathroom, and then yelled for help before collapsing. She called 911 and an ambulance came and got him. From the hospital in Spirit Lake he was life-flighted to Sioux Falls.
