When A Father’s Love Has No Limits
“The Father” by Carolyn Osborn is a story about Darwin and Casey, a couple who meet and begin a whirlwind love affair. This love affair leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Casey, the mother, leaves when the baby is just one month old only to return when the child is three years old. Soon, Darwin is caught in a court battle for custody of a son. Two days before the court date, Darwin discovers he is not the biological father of the child. This makes no difference to Darwin as he has loved and cared for the child since he was born. The central idea of this story is that sometimes the best parent isn’t always the biological parent. In this story Casey, the biological mother, leaves her one month old baby Davy, with his grandmother one day and never returns. During her absence, Darwin takes care of little Davy. Darwin has never had a child and while he has his mother to help with care in the daytime while he is working, Darwin assumes the role of a single father. Darwin knows he is solely responsible for Davy and does the very best he can. After three years pass, Casey comes back and wants to have Davy back. Rightfully so, Darwin refuses to just give in

Darwin knew in most custody battles, the mother of the child usually received primary custody of the child. Given Casey’s impulsive tendencies, Darwin knew this could mean he would never see Davy again. In a rare moment of fear and weakness during the court hearing, Darwin considers taking Davy away to Mexico or Canada. The thought of not being with his son scares Darwin and he cannot imagine life without him. Luckily, the judge realizes that Darwin is the best parent for little Davy and awards Darwin primary custody. The judge recognizes that even though Darwin is not Davy’s biological father, Darwin’s love for Davy makes him the best parent for
In the short story "A Bad Time for Fathers" by Robert Cormier a father displays sorrow for his daughter, Jane, as she is soon leaving for college. The father fears that once his daughter leaves, she won't return. The father throws his daughter a party for his daughter as she will be departing shortly. He said, "Probably the party had been a mistake, after all, because it provided a focus for the farewells, a time and place to say goodbye, ..." (93) The father is sad that his daughter is leaving. However, as the story concludes, he realizes the inevitable, that his daughter must leave at some point for her to return once again. "A daughter has to go away for a while before she can come back." In the short story The Father by Hugh Garner there is boy who’s father is not involved in his life. This is mostly because he is always drunk. Because of this Johnny, the father’s son, has not really been able to connect with his father. He is never there for Johnny when he needs him and is always embarrassing him. This made me really sad as I cannot imagine living without a loving father. I do not think that anyone should have to live without the care of their father. I can only imagine how sad that Johnny must have felt to not have a good father in his life. It must have been very hard for Johnny to see all of the other scout and their father’s at the banquet, knowing that he would never have a good father-son relationship with his dad. The fact that he did not feel comfortable asking his dad to come to the scouts banquet himself,
Taylor Greer had been running away from premature pregnancy her entire life. Afraid that she would wind up just another hick in Pittman County, she left town and searched for a new life out West. On her way getting there, she acquires Turtle, an abandoned three-year-old Native American girl. Taylor knows that keeping Turtle is a major responsibility, being that she was abandoned and abused. Yet, Taylor knows that she is the best option that Turtle has, as far as parental figures go. "Then you are not the parent or guardian?’…. ‘Look,’ I said. ‘I’m not her real mother, but I’m taking care of her now. She’s not with her original family anymore." (Kingsolver 162) As the story progresses, Taylor accepts Turtle as part of life. This sacrifice later turns into a blessing.
A father’s story by Andre Dubus is a powerful piece of literature. The two lessons that Andre Dubus taught me are the questions people have with their faith and the church, and Fathers special kind of love for their daughters. Luke decided to not rat out his daughter because he did not want her to go to jail. Could you imagine being in Luke’s situation in the story? Luke knows the right thing to do is to turn in his daughter but his unconditional love for her changes his mind. Lastly the author had doubts about the Church and faith. You can tell by his writings that he did not agree with everything that the church presented. The author believes in God but it sounds as if he thinks it is ok to sin sometimes. Jesus never had a daughter so the author thinks that God could not understand this.
The sheer existence of a child affects the parent’s development as well as their unique personalities and their individual needs (Berger,2014). Adults who do not have children are often unaware of the sacrifices and life- long commitment that it takes to be a parent and they tend to underestimate how difficult parenting is until they themselves become a parent (Berger, 2014). Parenting is a difficult, stressful, and constantly evolving process that parents learn through trial and error and just when they believe that they have caught on the child develops to the next stage and the learning curve continues. Now days it’s not unusual for adults to be caring for their children, grandchildren and their parents at the same time, which adds to the stress and financial burden of the family but provides the family with the much-needed hard earned generativity (Berger,2014). The text explained a scenario that makes parenting very difficult because the developing adults primary focus in life is intimacy from their significant other rather than generativity. In this scenario, the adult had not fully fulfilled their need for intimacy from stage six and their need for intimacy must take a back seat for the child’s care, which causes many relationship issues (Berger,2014). This is also a problem for
Just before World War II Rudi Kaplan starts learning a very important lesson. A Father’s Promise is a historical fiction written by Donnalynn Hess. The setting is in 1939 right before World War II in Warsaw, Poland.
Parental care can be defined as parents’ investment in the offspring post egg laying or birth of the young ones. Hence, it does not count the initial investment involved in gamete production (Ridley, 1978; Wells, 2008). In many animals belonging to diverse taxa, neither male nor female offer parental care in which the offspring are left at the mercy of nature whereas, in others only one parent, either male or female, cares for the offspring. In still others both the parents jointly take the responsibility of caring their progeny (Reynolds et al., 2012). Evolution of this diversity in parental care can be explained with the help of cost/benefit ratio of providing the parental care. Lack (1954) proposed a principle to explain the evolution of parental care and the relative investment by the

The role of a father is more than just another parent at home (Popenoe, 1996). Having a father, the male biological parent in a child’s life is important because it brings a different type of parenting that cannot be replicated by anyone else (Stanton, 2010). Fathers who are present and active in a child’s life provide great benefits to a developing child (Popenoe, 1996). Having a father brings a different kind of love. The love of the father is more expectant and instrumental, different from the love of a mother (Stanton, as cited in Pruett, 1987).
The role of a father in his child’s life extends past the knowledge of far too many, and can oftentimes be eclipsed by the role of the mother. Although the mother’s role is essential and greatly valued in a child’s life and development, the father plays a significant role as well. No mother can fill the father’s place in a child’s heart, for fathers nurture and play differently than a mother. Several studies show that an attendant and highly involved father is critical, especially in the early stages of a child’s life. The absence of a father during this stage can lead to “impaired social and behavioral abilities in adults” (Robert, 2013). But what is the role of the father? This paper discusses the role of the expectant father, the birth experience for him, the transition into fatherhood, and the rise of single fathers.
Jaycee Buzzanca also know as “Nobody’s child” for 3 years of her life. A girl created from a sperm and egg donation and carried by a surrogate mother. A month into her life her parents filled for divorce and her father claimed he didn’t not have to pay child support because this was not his child, hearing this the surrogate mother got involved and fought for custody of the child. Later the unanimous egg donor joins to say her egg was used without permission and lastly the sperm donor joins in saying the same (which he later revoked). Further on the mother of the child Luanne gains custody of the child and the dad John is considered the legal father and is required to pay child support. The article states, “For Jaycee 's first three years on earth, these people have been wrangling over who her parents are.” This child was put through some very traumatic things with this issue. With your father saying “she’s not mine” and realizing how many people actually took part in the birth of
When I go to sleep at night, do you care? Do you even miss us? Your bottles and mistress I need to know, I need to know why are you walking away. Was it something I did? Did I make a mistake? I was raised by my mother for the majority of my infant years the reason is because my father left before I was born. He went missing for a few years and we didn’t know how he was or if he even was alive, I remember thinking to myself, if my father ever thought of us while he was “missing”. One faithful day out of the blue we received an old crusted letter and it was from my father stating that he was no longer in Mexico and was inside the United States. “What on Earth was he doing there”, I thought to myself. Over the course of my beginning years I didn’t
