The Most Dangerous Game Essay
In the story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell it talks about how Rainsford is stuck on an island where he plays a game where he is being hunted. Rainsford an expert hunter knows all there is to know about hunting. Zaroff is another expert hunter also knows almost everything about hunting. Zaroff starts hunting Rainsford as game he has not lost. If you do not play the game, you get tortured by Ivan. Ivan can not speak, and Zaroff was a Russian soldier.Obviously Rainsford and Zaroff are an expert on hunting.
There are many types of hunters in story. Zaroff is an amazing hunter, he has killed just about every type of animal. “I had invented a new animal to hunt.” (Connell page 224) He starts getting

bored by hunting animals, so he has a new animal to hunt. He has humans as the new animal, so he can have a challenge on his hunting. Zaroff makes all his prisoners play that game, or else they get tortured by Ivan. Rainsford is also an exceedingly good hunter. Rainsford knows almost everything there is to know on how to hunt. Rainsford gets paid to take people out hunting big game and shows them how to hunt that specific animal. At the beginning of the story Rainsford was going to take Whitney who was planning on going hunting for. Whitney starts thinking different about hunting. He starts to wonder what the animal might think while they were hunting it. He does not want to kill the animal and Rainsford told him that animals do not have feelings. He thought that the animals felt no pain while they were being chased and hunted. In the story there are many people in the story where there are people hunted in the story. Zaroff wants to hunt Rainsford in his game. He wants a real challenge on hunting an expert hunter. All the other people he has hunted have made many mistakes that have led to their death even before Zaroff have come to him. They actually have a chance of winning his game if they know the ways of surviving against a hunter. In the story it said, “If he does not wish to hunt, I turn him over to Ivan.” (Connell page 226) Zaroff basically forces people to go and be hunted. They have no other choice if they want a slight chance of survival or definitely being killed by Ivan who used to be an official knouter. Rainsford whoever knows how a hunter thinks which is a type of advantage to him while trying to survive in the jungle. In the story it indicates that Zaroff said: “The world is made up of two classes--the hunters and the huntees.” Whoever I disagree with that statement.
There are many people who think that that statement is true, they are partly right. In the story it said: “The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure.”There are bullies in school who pick on people and think that they are superior over them. But there are also other people who are neither a hunter or prey. For example; George Washington. He was a great example to people. He was not considered someone who picked on people or even was someone you could pick on. People surrounding him respected him. So there are just not people who are hunter and prey. There are too many different people to state that comment. You could very easily state that a soldier as a hunter since they are in combat. But they are not considered hunters since they are on the field fighting for their lives, when they are home they are not hunters. People just do not go killing little kids just because they are defenseless and can not fight back. There is also ways that you could consider that statement true is if you are actually hunting obviously. If you are out hunting you could very well consider yourself a hunter while you are out hunting whatever animal you may be out
hunting. Clearly, Predator and prey are not the only two kinds of people in the world. Zaroff and Rainsford both excellent hunters have to see which one of them will find the other while Zaroff tries to hunt for Rainsford. As Zaroff has said in the story that they will be playing a game of outdoor chess against each other. At the end Rainsford ends up winning against Zaroff who has never lost against anyone in his little game.
Zaroff is extremely pleased when he gets to host Rainsford at his house, as if it's an honor to host this world renowned hunter in his home. He is so pleased when he has the chance to tell Rainsford about his new hunting style. “Dear me. Again with that unpleasant word. But I think I can show you that your scruples are quite ill founded” (26). Zaroff believes that he can change Rainsfords view on his hunting style when he reacts immediatly with great disgust.
After reading “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell. I have decided that the character that holds the most power was “General Zaroff”. I came to this conclusion based on the fact that he knew what was going to happen from the start. “General Zaroff” also held intimate knowledge of the island, a home base to receive medical treatment, backup from a bodyguard, a canine unit, and superior firepower.
A skilled hunter sprints desperately through the woods, realizing the futility of hiding from his greatest foe: his own kind. Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” is the story of a hunter that becomes the hunted. The story explores the sense of extreme terror the protagonist feels being pursued by a psychopath living on a mysterious island. This protagonist, Rainsford, has many traits that aid him in his battle with the general. By demonstrating his cunning, sly, and remorseful traits, Rainsford shows the story’s theme of “walking a mile in someone else’s shoes”.
“You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?”. The story “The Most dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell introduces an adventurous type of thriller with two main characters named Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. Both of which are hunters who in the story play a “game” invented by General Zaroff out of pure fear of becoming bored of the hunt. General Zaroff is a big fan of the hunt and everything he says about the hunt is to be taken serious. Rainsford and General Zaroff are described to be excellent hunters through the traps Rainsford makes, all the big game Zaroff has hunted, but Zaroff is better at hunting through the fact that the hunt has began to bore and he needs more of a challenge hunting humans.
First off, General Zaroff is an expert hunter who has hunted many dangerous game. Unlike average people, General Zaroff is hunting game just for sport; he has no intentions to use any of the animal that he has killed. He’s hunting just to kill. Not to mention that he has killed a lot of animals.
Would you have been brave enough to play a “game” that was to most likely end in death? In the story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, a man by the name of Rainsford is clearly brave because of the fact that he played the most dangerous game. His bravery can be proved by his actions, appearance, and speech.
The story The Most Dangerous Game says, “his pipe;striking a rope, was knocked from his mouth. He lunged for it...he realized he reached too far.” When he dropped his pipe he tried to grab for it but reached to far and ended up falling into the sea. The next conflict Rainsford faced was either to play the game with Zaroff or go with Ivan. While reading this story Zaroff says “you'll find this game worth playing.” Rainsford didn’t think he would have to play the game but Zaroff said he either has to play or go with Ivan and be killed. The last conflict Rainsford faced was hiding from Zaroff. The story said, “the job was finished and he threw himself down behind a log 100 feet away.” Rainsford has to be smart when he is hiding, so he built a trap for Zaroff to be stuck under. Finally, during the story Rainsford overcame many
Although pride can lead to beneficial outcomes, pride with the absence of empathy can lead to a devastating result. The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell shows that having too much pride and no empathy can get someone in some terrible trouble. The theme is proven by Rainsfords pride and unempathetic-ness, how the general had too much pride, and how the general only saw himself as the hunter, not the hunted.
Some people you meet can have a major impact on your life and change it for better or for worse. Rainsfords (a man who likes to hunt dangerous animals) life was greatly changed in both a good way and a bad way by a man who lives on a tiny island in a big house named General Zaroff. Rainsford ended up on this island after he fell of a yacht he was on to go hunt an animal somewhere else but ended up swimming his way up to the shore of an island. But after about a day of being on the island Rainsford was being hunted down. While Rainsford was trying his hardest to survive on the island he was on he found a way to escape to the mainland where General Zaroff was to try and get a way off the island back to civilization. The points in this story will be somehow related to my thesis statement in ¨The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Zaroff teaches Rainsford how it feels to be like the hunted and not the hunter.
In the story, Zaroff and Rainsford are both enjoy hunting, and are both excellent and skillful hunters
Rainsford remarks, “The world is made up of two classes-- the hunters and the huntees,” (1). Where Zaroff believes, “Life is for the strong, to be lived by the the strong, and, if needs be, taken by the strong,” (9). Zaroff hunts humans because, “Hunting had ceased to be what you call ‘a sporting proposition,’ (7) . He seeks and creates a new challenge by hunting innocent sailors. The men’s ideology is central to the story because Zaroff turns on Rainsford and makes him the hunted. Their fight to the death begins as soon as Rainsford demands to be taken off of Ship-Trap Island. Zaroff becomes disappointed in Rainsford not wishing to engage in hunting humans. He no longer considers Rainsford a strong hunter, but rather one of the weak of the world. Rainsford and Zaroff both have extensive hunting knowledge due to their travels around the world. Since both of the men have equal hunting knowledge they attempt to outsmart each other during the deadly game. For example, Rainsford creates a long and complex trail that would hopefully confuse
Conflict is in relation to air. Air is ubiquitous and can be in anything. Conflict is comparable to air by the reason air is also omnipresent and is in most places. In Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game,” Rainsford encounters man versus man, man versus self, and man versus nature conflicts.
Competition is a killer, in a way this story is killer, everything you'll learn in this book is killer. The story is about strategy, and mainly survival of the fittest. Richard Connell the author of “The Most Dangerous Game.” It's about a island called shipwreck island. Where a man named Rainsford a good skilled and trained hunter. Who was ready for anything. General Zaroff, a man who is quite hunter himself. But not in the way you would expect. Richard Connell uses mood/tone in his story “The Most Dangerous Game” to convey the theme of competition rarely enhances a person’s character.
Usually in stories there are conflicts to make the story attract attention. A conflict is absolutely necessary to a story. If a story does not have a conflict, it will be boring. The conflict gives the story action and problems between one or more characters. One of the conflicts is Man vs. Man. The second basic conflict shown in stories is the Man vs. Nature conflict. Thirdly, the Man vs. Himself conflict. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” Richard Connell presents the three basic types of conflict that make the story exciting.
Hunting does not only affect the animals you hunt but also ruins property and injures and kills horses, cows, dogs, cats, hikers, and other hunters. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), thousands of injuries are attributed to hunting in the U.S. every year, and that number only includes incidents involving
