Consumer offerings are presented to the public strategically by firms and their marketing strategies. These purchases range from everyday less costly items to more expensive less frequent purchases. Each of these offerings require different marketing strategies to successfully target the right market and increase sales. Convenience offerings, shopping offering, specialty offerings, and unsought offerings all play a big role in how a company gets its product to their customers. Convenience offerings are items that consumers spend little effort in regards to their buying behavior. These items can be impulse buys and low-involvement products. They carry a low risk of failure, and often times require no planning in the consumer’s mind before a purchase. Brand names typically are not a factor as the product is almost exactly the same compared to a competitor. To increase sales a company would want to establish brand recognition by making the product available in as many places as possible. An analysis of how consumers want to purchase these items is key to a successful product. Some products would include items that you would purchase at a grocery store. Marketers try to influence customers in the shopping offering category by packaging and advertising. Packaging allows a brand to highlight its features or even include the common 10% more free advertisement. Items that fall into this category include toothpaste, cereal, coffee, toilet paper, alcoholic beverages, bed spreads, clothing, shoes, and everyday household items. Once the target market has been identified it is important to develop a marketing strategy. In today's fast paced, information overloaded society; conveying a message about a product seems to be more difficult than ever. The consumer is bombarded with advertising everywhere they look. Today advertising not only exists on television, radio, magazines, and newspapers, it can be found on billboards, park benches, in our mailboxes, on buses, taxis, at sporting events, and on clothing.

In order for a business to target all of these elements at the right people at the right time, it must employ the right type of marketing mix: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.

Marketing is extremely important, and a fundamental building block for business growth. A marketing team is given the task of creating customer awareness through a variety of different marketing techniques. If a business does not pay close attention to their consumer demographic and needs, they will eventually fail over time. Two important aspects of marketing include acquiring new customers, and the preservation and growth of relationships with current customers. Marketing has always been viewed as a creative outlet, which encompassed advertising, distribution, and the selling of goods and services. Marketing staff will also try to anticipate what customers will want in the future, often being accomplished with market research. In summation, a good marketing plan should be able to create a favorable proposition or series of benefits that a customer can value through goods or services. The marketing mix is normally described as the strategic positioning of a product or service in the marketplace, using the specification of the four Ps. During the early 1960’s, Professor E. Jerome McCarthy of Harvard Business School stated that a marketing mix contains four elements. The four key points are product, pricing, promotion, and placement. It is recognized that all these aspects must be present to ensure a successful business model within a given industry. We will now take a thorough look at the four marketing mix points.
Marketers use a business tool called the marketing mix, which can be crucial when trying to determine a product or brand’s offer which is why the the 4’P’s of Marketing can be beneficial to use. Manktelow and Carlson (n.d) define marketing “Putting the right product in the right place, at the right price, at the right time” This definition can simply mean that a marketer can create a product for a particular group of people. The marketer needs to put it on sale where this group of people go to on a regular basis and sell it at a price level which matches the value they feel they get out of it. Marketers assert to develop branding and packaging strategies that signify the brand’s products in a way that establishes lasting impressions in consumers’ thoughts. Because brands distinguish the many product offerings in the marketplace, brands help consumers choose between product offerings. When branding and packaging strategies clearly illustrate worthy product expectations, and products remain true to branding messages, positive consumer perceptions ensue, and brand value is strengthened.
