The Next Superhero: Juliette Ferrars
This thriller novel, Shatter Me is written by Tahereh Mafi. Infact, this is the first book she has written that is a part of trilogy. The writing style of the book was quite different compared to other books like The Fault In Our Stars, Hunger Games, Divergent, and so on because the narrator, Juliette Ferrars, has many thoughts in her head that she did not feel comfortable saying out loud. Due to this reasoning, the book contained many strikethroughs to symbolize her unspoken thoughts that were a combination of negativity. For instance, on the cover, it says “ MY TOUCH IS LETHAL. MY TOUCH IS POWERFUL.” By reading those two simple sentences you are able to understand how Juliette actually feels about herself.

However, the main protagonist is Juliette Ferrars. It was really hard to pinpoint how Juliette looks like because she has never talked about her appearance. Infact, she does not even know how she looks like. In the novel, it mentions that the last time she saw her appearance was when she was very young. However, many characters describe her as “pulchritudinous”(Mafi,157) which basically means she is gorgeous and breathtaking. Juliette has long brown hair and has a mixture of blue and green eyes that look like the sea on a nice breezy day. She is a 17 year old girl who is extremely brave, even though she is facing many adversities that are incredibly cruel. The main adversity that she is facing is people. Since she was little, almost all of the mortals she faced refer to her as crazy or, are terrified and disgusted by her. The main reason why they are scared and disgusted by her is because she has “super powers”. The super powers that she has are lethal touch and super strength. Juliette is able to kill people by simply touching them and has the ability to punch through concrete and steel. One day, when Juliette was fourteen years old she accidently killed a young boy; by simply touching his hand to …show more content…
Everyone accused that she strangled the little boy to death and because of this Juliette had to be locked up in the asylum for 264 days. Due to this cause, her relationships with her parents Evelyn Ferrars (mother) and Eric Ferrars (father), drifted as they were humiliated by having an unordinary child like everyone else. Juliette was forced to act like all the other kids and be normal. Mostly everyone in her society only saw her flaws and did not notice the kind person she truly is. For example, in seventh grade, an acquaintance of Juliette named “Shelly Morrison got caught cheating on her math test. She screamed that if she failed her dad will kill her. Juliette told the teacher she was the only one cheating of her test and she ended up getting a zero on the exam, and detention for a week.” (Mafi,157) by reading that line one can strongly agree that Juliette is far from evil infact, she is the opposite as she has many qualities that our society classifies as a good person that is not haughty. In this novel, Juliette was able to build affections with various characters. The main two people Juliette was able to make connections with were Adam Kent and Aaron Warner. Juliette developed bitterness towards Aaron Warner for many reasons. However, the main reason was because
Even though Marie couldn’t see she loved to read. She went to the museum everyday with her father. On every one of her birthdays her father got her a brail book to read. Growing up Marie had to learn how to count her steps and to feel things to know where she was at and where she was going. Marie really had to become strong when moving to Saint-Malo. Her father had become distant from everybody. Marie started to become close to her uncle Etienne and his care taker Madame Manec. She was so eager to leave the house and walk around Saint-Malo and feel around. Her father refused and wouldn’t let her leave the
Particularly, you can analyze that this quote contains a strong voice that can be portrayed as descriptive. She uses a handful of adjectives that foreshadow the character’s personalities.
Her emotions and internal battles are made tangible to a lesser degree through the fluent and descriptive language, but obviously no amount of intimate emotions can be conveyed easily without the use of First Person Point of View. The structure of the novel is somewhat like a diary, making it seem like she is revealing her innermost thoughts and feelings, which vary and change erratically as she reveals the nature of her relationship with her father.
The theme of the book is appearance shouldn’t matter. Like how Shay says that she doesn’t care about appearance or becoming a pretty. F. Overall Opinion- My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
The book Uglies follows a 15 going on 16 year old girl, who is an Ugly and would do anything to become a Pretty sooner than her 16th birthday. All she’s ever had to look forward to was turning 16 and becoming pretty. She wishes for it even more because her best friend in the whole world just became pretty and she is separated from him, ready to do anything to be by his side again. Throughout the book we get to watch Tally grow and learn. She learns that being a Pretty is not all that it's cracked out to be, that
She loves how words can fill her up, but then she also realizes that words can be ugly things, especially in the way Hitler can use words to encourage the German people to carry out horrific violence and cause so much suffering. She
...e relationship with men, as nothing but tools she can sharpen and destroy, lives through lust and an uncanny ability to blend into any social class makes her unique. Her character is proven as an unreliable narrator as she exaggerates parts of the story and tries to explain that she is in fact not guilty of being a mistress, but a person caught in a crossfire between two others.
An example is her torture during the majority of the book. In 6th grade she went to her friends party, and to her astonishment, a couple began making out in the closet. She called her mom to tell her what was going on and her mom told the mother ...

Juliet is very pragmatic; rather than swooning over Romeo when he intrudes on her property, Juliet is appalled considering “The orchard walls are high and hard to climb” (II, ii, 63). Juliet is not a blind fool; she is conscientious of the dangers that accompany falling for her family’s mortal enemy.
Clare further extends her self-reflection as she comments on her terrible nature, confessing to Irene that, in order to satisfy her own desires, she would “do anything, hurt anybody, throw away anything,” portraying her harshly selfish mindset that causes inherent danger to those around her (Larsen 65). This depth in understanding herself characterizes Clare’s rule over her life, as Clare makes all of her decisions based on her own desires and wants, contrasting with Irene, who desires control in her own life and maintains a semblance of it, but cannot truly achieve full authority due to her deference to a need for stability. Additionally, the novel identifies this factor from Irene’s perspective, as she describes Clare’s countenance as one that had “a beseeching earnestness that made Irene vaguely uncomfortable” (Larsen
She has a "natural elegance" and a mixture of "innocence and crudity," and yet, as seen in her response, her character proves to go beyond the boundaries of this character type of the natural beauty (1564 and 1574)."
He describes beauty as delicate and rare, unable to be established. He focuses on the lightheartedness of young girls, how they are caught up in beauty, and he warns them to be conscientious of the fact that their beauty will fade and that they cannot put all their hope on their beauty. At the same time, he encourages them to "practice" their beauty until it is gone, and he promises to celebrate that beauty as best he can, with all its value and frailty.
In the novel “Juliet” written by Anne Fortier, the main character Julie Jacobs changes a profuse amount throughout the book. In the beginning, Julie didn’t know what she was getting into when it came to investigating her family history and what was so special about Siena, Italy. By the end, however, Julie Jacobs discovers who she is, who her family is, and the people in her life who deserve to be in it. In the story, Julie goes through a great ordeal finding out what is in this mysterious box that was left by her mother in Italy. Besides this, her character growth is extravagant.
