Shape 6.1 Shahzia Sikander. 1, from 51 Ways of Looking (Group B). 2004. Sikander uses his shapes to make us look at his art in different ways. In Sikander’s “Ways of Looking” we can see that he uses organic and geometric shapes in harmony to bring his picture to life. In the picture he uses geometric shapes to grab your attention as he uses the organic shapes to make us look deeper into the picture. The shaded circles behave in a way that make us target them and give them our first attention and then we begin to notice all of the elements around it. Numbers in Color. 1958–59 The pattern in “Numbers in Color” has repetition of numbers and colors. Johns uses man-made pattern to set the tone of his artwork. The repeated use of these elements: color and numbers creates a sense of balance and harmony in the picture that the viewer can observe as calm. Lines 6.7 Yvonne Jacquette. The lines in this drawing represent shape, form, structure, growth, depth, distance, movement and a range of emotions. In “Three Mile Island” Jacquette uses a mixture of horizontal lines to suggest distance and calm, through his use of thick and thin lines he shows delicacy and strength. Space 6.6 Filippino Lippi. Figure Studies: Standing Nude and Seated Man Reading. c. 1480. In this artwork there is the use of organic and geometric shapes, space, and lines. Lippi uses his space actively in this picture it is not just void and dull but it brings the whole picture into focus. We could examine in the picture that space behaves as insight into the picture.
