Introduction Sexual orientation in public schools is now a social norm. Many individuals feel that sexual deviance should be embraced and accepted as a natural part of life. It is a concept I feel very strongly about and do not believe that it should be an acceptable practice and viewed as a normal process. I realize that each individual has their own set of beliefs and have the right to accept or deny the Christian doctrines. As an educator, I may not have the ability to enforce my Christian beliefs, but I do have the right to state my opinion and hold to my convictions. One of the females attending school has decided that she want to be referred to as a male. She has altered her appearance to look masculine. She has also decided that she wants to alter her name to be called by what she considers to be her male name. Many of the children at the school and faculty members have honored her request. Her school records and name clearly states that she is a female and list her name based on her birth records. The laws are changing dramatically concerning this matter. As I continue to work in the educational field or another field of study I am confident in my ability to maintain my ethics as a leader and Christian. In working with my students, I can model what professional values and morals look like. When encountering other in my field I am able to address concerns and topics in a professional manner without compromising my code of ethics. Plan for Personal Growth with Future Goals and/or Plan of Action for the Future While evaluating the circumstances this past week there are definitely some questions and procedures that need to be addressed. Staff development on how to meet the needs of those individuals that may have extenuating circumstances such as the young lady mentioned. There needs to be clarity on how to address future concerns on similar issues and others that may compromise individual’s religious beliefs or rights. It is also equally important for adults and students to learn how to interact with a diverse group of individuals from different backgrounds and non-religious and religious affiliations.
