Sex, Marriage, and Family: Revision Paper A marriage is a very special relationship that couples share. It’s a new level of love and an act of commitment. People get married for various reasons which include legal benefits, procreation, commitment and many others. A marriage provides legal benefits to couples that most other relationships don’t have. For example, if a person in a relationship dies, the spouse can collect the social security benefits only if they are legally married (Lamanna and Reidmann, pg. 260). The word “family” is a word that is loosely defined in today’s society. The U.S Census Bureau defines family as, “…two or more persons who share a household and who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption.” (Lamanna and Reidmann, pg. 5, pg. 259). There are two types of family: family of orientation and family of procreation. A family of orientation is the family that has raised the individual. The family of procreation is the family that is formed by marriage and by having children. Having a family is very important for a person’s development in society. Usually, a family shares the same value and is there for support when it is needed (Cowan). In society, the people that constitute marriage are the policy makers in our government. Unfortunately, marriage is a privilege and not a right. In some states, homosexuals are not allowed to get married (Lamanna and Reidmann, pg. 276). Although people in s...
Abstract On June 26, 2015 a divided Supreme Court ruled in the landmark case Obergefell v. Hodges that same-sex couples could now marry nationwide. At the time of the split ruling there were 9 supreme court justices, 5 of the justices were Republicans, and the remaining 4 were Democrats. In high profile cases it is except that the justices will vote along party lines. When the 5-4 ruling was reveled by the following statement. “It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right (Corn,2015).” written by
The first journal article is about advance care planning (ACP) in palliative care. This is of interest due to several clinical experiences and the realization that many families either ignore the patient’s request for end of life (EOL) care or who have no idea of how to plan for EOL care. By reading the research and understanding the methods used, this will allow for insight into how to implement palliative care into clinical practice across different sites. The authors of this original research are Jeanine Blackford PhD, RN, senior lecturer at La Trobe University in Australia, and Annette Street PhD, associate dean of research and professor of cancer and palliative care studies. According to Blackford & Street (2011), this research is important as there are many countries that “report a low percentage of people who have completed an advance care plan” (p. 2022), and ACP is needed upon admission to facilities that offer palliative care. In addition, the purpose of the study is to try and obtain guidance to integrate an ACP model into routine clinical practice in the community. The research question chosen for the analysis of this article is: Is it feasible to implement ACP into routine practice and documentation at multi-site locations in...
Ocean Pollution is a serious issue in today's global politics. The delicate balance of Earth's ecosystem is put in jeopardy when the ocean is not clean. Problem evolving from ocean pollution directly harm marine life and indirectly affect human health and the Earth's many valuable resources. Ocean Pollution is a Broad term that encpompasses any and all foregin matter that directly or indirectly makes its way into the ocean. This includes everything from the extreme: oil spills, Toxic Waste dumping and industrial dumping-- to the small scael: human activities and basic carelessness. Because the oceans and all other water bodies are invariably, somehow connected, and because they account for 3/4 of the Earth's surface, they are an ideal method of transportation for pollution, allowing the rapid spread of seemingly far away toxins into a river near you! It is increasingly important that we educate ourselves as to what, exactly, ocean pollution is, so that we can identify the causes at their source and take action in small and large ways, and hopefully, prevent this terrible form of pollution from getting any worse than it is today.
Fifty-million plastic bags enter the Australian waters every year, causing the death of thousands of sea creatures. Imagine you went on a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. As you arrive, it is clear to see garbage floating on the ocean and you can only imagine what rubbish lies beneath the surface. This disturbs me! What are we doing to our beautiful, yet innocent marine life?
This is a collection of marine debris that has mixed into a swirling gyre in the Central North Pacific Ocean. This patch of plastic is difficult to measure accurately due to its vast size, the movement of the water, the debris within it, and not only the debris at the surface level but the debris that has sunken meters beneath the surface. Plastic is the main source of debris in the gyre and represents up to about 80% of the ocean’s total debris across the entire earth’s ocean (EPA, 2011). The plastic breaks down into tinnier pieces known as micro plastics. These micro plastics make the ocean water cloudy to see through. Mixed with the micro plastics are larger pieces of plastic. Most researchers of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch agree that it is at least the size of the state Texas, while other scientist argue that it is doubled. As plastic has become a dominant product in our lives, and its production has increased, the northern Pacific Ocean has been accumulating mass amounts of plastic by ocean and wind

COMEDIES: One day of the festival of the Dionysus was devoted to comedies, which could make fun of the gods, the customs of the Athenians, or individuals such as Pericles and Socrates, Aristophanes was famous comic playwright.
The fact that so much garbage is floating out in the ocean is not only a problem for us but for the wild life in the ocean. Given that humans are the primary cause of all this a research conducted
It was thought a while back that no matter how much trash we poured into the ocean the result would be inconsequential. However, when we examine the coastlines, swirling patches of garbage in the middle of the ocean, and the fact that there is enough trash added to the ocean each year to circle it four times (“22 Facts about Plastic Pollution”) it is obvious we thought wrong. With billions of pounds of plastic already in the ocean today, (ECO360 Plastic Garbage 1) we’ve already dug ourselves in a deep hole but that doesn’t mean it’s too late.
Plastic is one of the biggest pollutants out there. Humans use it all the time often and don't throw it away in the right ways so it all goes to the ocean. Therefore the ocean is drowning in plastic. Birds and fish mistake it for food and animals get stuck in it. Fish and bird see the small plastic items and think it's there food. They will then eat it and not be able to digest it which will cause them to die. Other oceanic mammals will get stuck in the plastic
The idea of family is different from person to person. Regardless of the differences, everyone’s family is unique and special in their own way. No one can judge or discriminate against people for their meaning and interpretation of what a family looks like. For example, family may have two parents; one parent; or no parents (since these are brief phrases, semi-colons shouldn't be used). The variation and differences between families makes culture and society so diverse. Family does not have limitations or boundaries (true). As long as the definition of family contains the qualities of unconditional love, and endless support, help, and guidance; all different families (awk) will be able to succeed and achieve a greater feeling of happiness and a sense of belonging and acceptance.
...contests, its influence on the drama of the age appears in every play that still survives from that age with its charms and its flaws. It inspired an age of drama and creativity that would not be seen upon the earth for at least one thousand years and it is the prolific playwrights and their stories that are remembered most of all. The same stories that had been passed on for hundreds of years previous to the contests are still remembered now, beautifully crafted and dramatized by the dramatists of the Greek age.
Jencks believes “the glass-and-steel box has become the single most used form in Modern Architecture and it signifies throughout the world ‘office building’” (27). Thus, modern architecture is univalent in terms of form, in other words it is designed around one out of a few basic values using a limited number of materials and right angles. In...
Research from the University of California San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography said that species in the ocean consume a projected 12,000 to 24,000 tons of plastic every year in the Pacific Ocean (Nall, 2014). Pollution of recyclable materials in the oceans is one of the leading causes of why some marine species are nearing extinction. Many authors of articles and books analyzing this topic tend to agree that pollution of our oceans is a problem. The future of this problem is where their ideas tend to differ. The following four literature reviews attempt to demonstrate and support my belief that pollution is getting worse in the ocean and more marine life ecosystems are being affected, but there are things that we as humans can do to change this. Imagine a world where we didn’t have to constantly worry about the vicious cycle of humans affecting animals and then animals in turn affecting us through consumption.
Everyone is born into some form of family, with the family taking the responsibility of nurturing, teaching the norms or accepted behaviors within the family structure and within society. There are many types of families, which can be described as a set of relationships including parents and children and can include anyone related by blood or adoption. Family is the most important, “for it is within the family that the child is first socialized to serve the needs of the society and not only its own needs” (Goode, 1982).
