Self Portrait Paper I can confidently say today that in the beginning of the semester, I was not independent. I depended on other people such as teachers to tell me when assignments are due repeatedly, or my family to help me make big decisions. But now that I have gotten through my first semester of college that has changed drastically. I strongly value my relationships with people whether it be family, friends, or even enemies. I have learned since the end of high school, and now the end of my college semester, the respect that I deserve from people. I can now see that most of the friends I met, and got so close with in high school were a lie. Many of those people did not care about me, which I knew at the time, but did not do anything …show more content…
My main personal goal is to be happy. I think that is the most important thing someone should strive for. I think many people do things that don’t make them happy, but makes them more successful. I understand why people would do this because another goal that I have is to be successful. But today in our society there are many ways to become successful, and you can find one that makes you happy to do everyday. This is why I have chosen I want to be working in the criminal justice force. Throughout my whole life I have always been interested in investigations and FBI work. I have watched almost every crime show that they have out there, and gotten more excited every time. I think it would be so interesting to be an investigator at a crime scene. Figuring out a mystery, and helping people is what I strive to do. There are many steps to getting to that stage including graduating from college with a degree in criminal justice. You have to take many classes in order to have the intelligence to be investigating. So far this semester I have taken a course called crime and justice in America, and I have learned a lot of useful information about different careers in the field and what they require. I plan to take plenty more criminal justice classes. I have recently been thinking about minoring in forensics. I originally wanted to major in forensics but I decided I could do a lot more with a criminal justice
At the beginning of the year the people I was hanging out with are amazing people, but they didn't make me feel welcome at the table. So in the first month of school, I had already switched tables. The friends that I migrated to are good people, who make terrible decisions. They made me feel pressured to hate certain people and act a certain way. I didn't realized how much this had affected my life until recently. Those friends made me feel like I had to have something wrong with me to be different, or fit in with them. When I finally realized what they were doing to me, I left. I moved to another table, these people are the best people ever. They reminded me that I don't have to have something wrong with me to be their friend. This point in my life was just a few weeks ago, and I already feel better than I have in a long time.
Within the Criminal Justice System there is diverse career opportunities to choose from. The career I am interested in being is a Criminal Profiler with the FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime. I am interested in this job because it seems to be an intense job to do. A criminal profiler's job is to create a psychological profile of a criminal suspect. Creating one of these profiles can be used to help catch the suspect. This is done by examining evidence from the crime, interviewing witnesses and victims, and analyzing crime scenes. Information obtained from these investigations can then be used to help the profiler determine a pattern of criminal behavior. Most of the time the information that was collected can be used to find out more about the suspect.
I chose to research the profession of a homicide detective. This profession interests me because I find solving a puzzle satisfying, by picking up the pieces (evidence) and fitting them together I can solve the mystery of the homicide. This of course is something I will have to work toward, as I cannot become one right out of the gate. First I will have to be a police officer. I have to be a police officer first because I need to gain experience in the criminal justice world and with victims/ suspects. Depending on the town I choose to pursue my career in I could have to start as a patrol officer or at a jail. I am doing things now to try and set myself apart from other candidates so if the time does ever come for a promotion I can be one step
Criminal justice is one of the most important majors one can study due to the necessity to keep the streets safe and clean. From street cops, to state troopers all the way to criminal psychologists the criminal justice system is a very important part of modern society as it keeps us safe from murders, rapists and various other criminals. The street cops are the ones that are out on our streets protecting every citizen. It can be as simple as writing a parking ticket on a car that is illegally parked, to arresting murderers and rapist in a quiet neighborhood in the suburbs. The cops are the ones that are keeping our streets more safe for families everywhere. The main thing I want to learn about Criminal Justice is where I can go with my degree. By studying criminal justice I would like to be able to pursue my dreams of becoming a Drug enforcement agent so that I can help make neighborhoods safe and take bad people off the public streets.
I would like to be a Forensic Science Technician, simply because I find this kind of stuff interesting. A Forensic Science Technician does many things. Four things they do are run ballistics tests on guns to find the one used in a bank robbery; collect evidence from a crime scene to help understand the chain of events; match DNA samples to reunite a long lost child to his/her family; and solve a crime by matching fingerprints at the crime scene to a suspect. One of the top reasons I would join this career is because I want to be able to solve a crime if someone needs help. The second top reason I would join this career is because I watched CSI all the time before I got too busy with school, but I still watch it when I can. I think I would like this job because I always found it interesting to watch CSI and figure out how they solved the case. I also like to guess on who done what and why did they do it.
The two majors I decided to research were Criminal Justice and Secondary Education. The major I went into Oshkosh of declaring was Criminal Justice. I became interested in Criminal Justice after watching Criminal Minds and doing a ride-along with my aunt, who is a police officer in Sheboygan Falls. As far as Secondary Education, I have always loved being around kids. When I was young I played school with my sister. I’ve also loved math, it has always been my best subject. I am more interested in Secondary Education as of now, which is why I interviewed a middle school math teacher, but I am still interested in learning more about Criminal Justice because I still find it extremely interesting.
In order to pursue my dream as a Forensic Psychologists I am aware that I have to put in a lot of effort and determination in to school. There are various aspects to pursuing my career such as getting good grades, volunteering in police departments, networking, and doing an immense amount of research on my field. The career I chose requires a lot of my time not only as a student but as an adult. What I mean by this is that from now on, my time is devoted in to acquiring skills and changing my persona in order to be better qualified for the my job. Throughout this road map I will talk about what is a Forensic Psychologist, what are the requirements, skills necessary, what I could do with this degree, the personality types that are best suited for this job, and what are the prospects of moving up.
Rembrandt van Rijn, a prolific painter and etcher, is noted as the greatest Dutch artist of the Golden Age. Pasadena’s Norton Simon museum is home to some of his achievements, including one of his many self portraits titled Self Portrait painted in 1636-1638. Throughout his lifetime, Rembrandt documented his life in paintings. This autobiography of self portraits was very uncommon for the seventeenth century and helped establish his reputation as an artist. These portraits created a timeline of Rembrandt’s life, as well as document the evolution of his artistic style and expression. He was an exceptional inspiration to the following generation of artists.
Photojournalism plays a critical role in the way we capture and understand the reality of a particular moment in time. As a way of documenting history, the ability to create meaning through images contributes to a transparent media through exacting the truth of a moment. By capturing the surreal world and presenting it in a narrative that is relatable to its audience, allows the image to create a fair and accurate representation of reality.
Five years after graduation I plan to obtain a master's degree in law enforcement. Right now I'am really not sure what I really want to truly do for the rest of my life. The only thing I like doing is finding clues and figuring out the criminal in mystery books.
Perception of one’s self begins early in life. For me, it began as being a little sister. My older sister was six when I was born and due to that age difference, was also a kind of parent to me. I knew I was to be the compliant, cute little sister and spent my younger years trying to live up to the little sister standard. It took years to develop what sisterhood really was into my self-concept.
The way we view ourselves as individuals can shape how we handle certain situations in our lives. “For instance, individuals tend to globally overvalue their positive traits, considering themselves more attractive than the average person (Horton, 2003), and as more attractive than others see them”. (Epley & Whitchurch, 2008)” (Re & Rule, 2016). Meaning most individuals tend to think highly of themselves and focus on their definite “positive traits” more than anything else. By focusing on these traits it is easier for one to only see the characteristics that tend to make them look better to themselves. A person’s outlook on how they perceive themselves can either ignite positive or negative feelings, and depending on the situation and experiences
This picture, probably the only one in existence of all my friends together, has more meaning than it seems. At first, it appears to be nothing more than a happy congregation of teenagers, all from the ages of fifteen to sixteen. In the background you can see a fence enclosing a sand volleyball court. My friends that are kneeling on the bottom row are Shawn (who is affectionately known as Goose because of his long neck and his last name being Gosselin) and Paul. The ones on the top row are, from left to right, Brad, Matt, Kayla, Charlie, Jenny, Greg, Brent, and Daniel. I am at the far right side. You can tell by the expressions on some of their faces, especially Paul's, that they weren't quite ready for the picture to be taken, for more reasons than one. First, there was someone else taking a picture at the same time. Also, most of them never could have guessed that the picture would have to be taken in the first place. After all, I was supposed to be with them forever, right? Wrong. This was my going-away party.
Like it or not, a person is judged by their appearance and the way they carry themselves. Appearance is directly related to a person’s character because some details of personal affectations tell much about one’s identity. Every person’s identity depends on their family and their race. As a book can never be judged by its cover, in the same way, a person cannot be judged by their appearance, identity, or ethnicity. There are 197 countries in this world, but every country’s traditions and beliefs are different from each other. Ethnicity, race, and sex play a large part in forming traditions and beliefs, which is why they are so different around the world. A person’s identity is based on their family, culture and personal interests, which are all the factors that tend to shape how people are seen in a community. When an individual is judged based on their appearance instead of their character, they often suffer rejection. Everyone in this world has a different identity and is different from each other. Cultures and traditions differentiate people and help
I took a long, hard look at the people around me and figured out what their good attributes were and why they were significant in my life. When I figured out who they were as people and what they could give as a friend, versus what I needed as a friend, I made my decision. It wasn’t a decision that was said out loud or one that was publicized. I just directed my energy towards the people who needed my friendship in return for the friendship they had shown me. When I realized who was a true friend and who was not, it hurt. There was a lot of pain, knowing somebody didn’t care as much about me and my well=being as I had wanted them to. It wasn’t until later, that I realized they could still be in my life, just not as much involved it as they once
