My Self-Evaluation I have learned a variety of things about myself throughout my first semester of college. My knowledge ranges from how my strengths and weaknesses have helped and hurt me, to more of the basic things I needed to know in order to further my education. Overall, I worked really hard to write excellent papers, and because of the effort I put into the assignments, I think that I have done well enough to end the semester with a B. At the beginning of the semester, I took a StrengthsQuest assessment. I used my top five strengths to help me get through all of my classes. The top three that helped me in English 101 included: being responsible, being disciplined, and being a restorative person. Once I start an assignment, I need …show more content…
I don’t consider myself a procrastinator, but I do sometimes find it hard to focus on my work. The assignments still needed to be completed, and I knew that, so I always made sure to get them done. Brainstorming was a big part of planning out and writing all four of the papers we did this semester, so I always set aside the time I needed to do this. Some papers were harder to write than others, but that did not stop me from trying. For example, our first assignment was about our best friend. I was not very good with my transitioning and organization with this paper. There were some grammar problems that needed to be fixed, so I had to sit down and figure out ways to make my paper better. Being someone who likes to solve problems was helpful, because as soon as I knew that my paper needed revision, I sat down and mapped out ways to make it better. I am not one to ask for help, but I admit that I needed it this semester. My father read through my papers to make sure that there were not many mistakes. If there were, we both figured out ways that I could fix them so my papers were the best they could be. I became friends with a girl in the class, Korby, and we talked about different topics for the different assignments we were working on. I also knew that the writing lab was close, had I found myself needing another person’s help. I overcame my fear of asking those around me for advice when I needed
Just as they are standing face-to-face with each other, I am standing face-to-face with procrastination. I encounter difficulty managing my time with just about everything I do; I always wait too long. Throughout high school I was never in a hurry to get any of my work done. The work was easy to me, so if I waited until the last minute to do anything, it wasn’t hard for me to finish. I could always take my time to get everything done and still get a good grade in high school. Even if the work was harder and took me a little extra time, my teachers were all very lenient and accepted late work. My high school was very easy and allowed me to get into the bad habit of procrastinating.
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
I did little by little to eventually get all my assignments and readings done. To sum up, I stopped procrastinating when I discovered that the library signals me to start doing my homework, causing me to find other useful habits that were invaluable to getting stuff done.
Procrastination is the word that I would use to thoroughly depict people. It’s not that everyone procrastinates, but most people do, and almost everyone has at least once in their lifetime. I am positive that you have put off an assignment and had good reason to do so. I often put off all my assignments because the TV is always a better way to spend my time. The history paper can wait, as can the dog that needs feeding. The job doesn’t need to be completed until the very last minute. Now, there is a very sound science to procrastinating. Some would say that it is a skill; furthermore, all my friends refer to me as the “Pro” crastinator. Procrastinating is the best thing ever it feels amazing, and especially if the assignment is boring. The
The best way to procrastinate is to interact with other people. That way you can lay part of the blame on someone else: "Well, Mom was talking to me about something important. I couldn't just walk away." I prefer to talk on the phone to friends who go to schools far away. We usually don't talk too often, so when we do, we have to make it count. For those that who don't want to spend a mountain of money on phone bills, any kind of messaging system on the Internet is a great way to communicate.
This assessment score surprised me for I feel that I am very tolerant and adapt well to change, but maybe, as I get older, I resistance change because I have found principles and ideas that work well to achieve success and see change as only undermining what is already working (McShane & Von Glinow, 2016, p. 429). McShane & Von Glinow (2016, p. 428) says that “constructive communication” can overcome resistance. This statement is directed at management, but I plan on using this same advice to overcome my own resistance to change from management. Changes are occurring in my department and some role realignment is going to take place, as this occurs, I agree with McShane & Von Glinow (2016, p. 434) that this change will cause me additional stress, of course, now that I know this I can actions to prevent it. An article written by John MacArthur’s says that the Apostle Paul when faced with pressure still reserved “room in his heart to feel the anxiety of other” (MacArthur, 2012), so when thinking of change, instead of just seeing it as something that is stressing me out, I need to realize that others are probably going thought the same emotions and symptomize with them other, for MacArthur also says that, “Anyone who knows and loves Jesus Christ is capable of handling pressure like that” (MacArthur, 2012). I also need to remember that God is in control and no matter what changes occur God will see me through it (Matthew 6:26). By managing change better, will make me a
This piece of writing gave more and deeper understanding how other facts have effects on our life as procrastinators. In this research, I came to very important information. This new idea I never imagined that was connected to my behavior as a procrastinator which was "Procrastination is a psychological phenomenon that extends broadly in society. Ferrari, O’Callahan, and Newbegin (2005) reported that 61% of the population display some form of procrastination, of which 20% do so in a chronic manner (e.g., routinely late for deadlines and postponing impor-tant tasks daily or weekly)" (Mun ̃oz-Olano, J. F., & Hurtado-Parrado, C. 2). As I mentioned before procrastination is not the same as laziness. Procrastination has to be with our psychological
I am a procrastinator and I have been ever since I was a child, which I am sure many others have been as well. As a child, I would put off my work mainly because I did not want to do and wanted to occupy myself with something else, rather than to sit there and actually do the work. When this happened, of course, the work would either be done in the morning, at night, or it would not be done at all. In his article, “The 5 Most Common Reasons We Procrastinate,” written for Psychology Today, Shahram Heshmat (2016), “The lack of imposed direction that’s become common in the workplace might contribute to the increase in procrastination” (para. 4). This is something that was more prevalent in my freshmen year of high
Out of the three attempts to squash my tendency to procrastinate, only one seemed to work. The first thing I tried that worked, was to set a timer for 10 minutes, and just work for those 10 minutes. Next, I would give myself a 10 minute break. This was an idea suggested by my professor at the beginning of the year. This worked at first; I would get into my writing mojo, and not stop for an hour or so.
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
A. H. C. Chu and J. N. Choi, psychologists, distinguished two types of protracting, they discovered that active procrastination has attainable characteristics that lead to positive personal outcomes (Choi and Moran). These positive personal outcomes are a result of waiting at its finest. People with these adequate dilatory skills have probably learned from their deficient habits in the past that may help everyone know that the view of holding off can change. Writing this essay has changed my view on procrastination slightly, as I can see how it can be good for you. With my siblings, free time is limited. So taking time to do something more entertaining helps me take a break from stressful work. Then when I get back to it I feel more confident that I can focus and finish it. That’s an example of active procrastination for me. Frank Partnoy shows historical views on procrastination, in an article about his book, such as how “The Greeks and Romans generally regarded procrastination highly. The wisest leaders embraced procrastination and would basically sit around and think and not do anything unless they absolutely had to” (Gambino 2012). Those Romans and Greeks were able to enjoy their time of relaxation, using procrastination as a healthy tool rather than a bad habit. Even wise leaders used it! What an amazing realization that we get procrastination from
Mollie McCaffrey IST 05-01 Satya Parayitam December 7, 2015 Indian Marriage System The continent of India has been known for its variety in weddings and marriage ideas. ... I was able to extend more on researching and writing to join a scholarly conversation about any topic and not just simply reporting any first facts. Due to the writing rubric, I believe that I stand in the range of a B. I put all effort into each paper that I write, and I make sure that they are handed in or posted on the due date. I never slack during work
As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
About 4 out of every 10 people avoid facing difficult task and deliberately look for distractions, and unfortunately there are distractors everywhere. When there is a significant period between when you intended do a job and the time you actually did it, you procrastinated.
