Imagine being on a roller coaster. Those straps that hold you in a roller coaster are always so uncomfortable. Maybe you just shouldn’t wear it, but that wouldn’t be smart. People would think you are suicidal because you’re choosing to get in danger, and risk flying out of a fast-moving machine. A high-end car can reach speeds, depending on the air resistance, over 270 mph (Rowe) as compared to one of the fastest roller coasters, Formula Rossa, at 150 mph (this was found in 2010). What is the difference from not strapping in on a roller coaster to a person without a seat belt in a car? Yes, they can be annoying, but your parents can be also. People are getting injured or killed when not wearing a seat belt. Found in 2001, 64% of 18-34 year-old passenger vehicle occupants who were killed or severely injured in crashes were not wearing seat belts (Philly.com). This shows that people at this age feel it isn’t important to care for their safety in the car. By comparison, people ages 35 and older who were killed or severely injured in a crash, 48% were not buckled up (Philly.com). Not buckling up at any age is deadly. I’m not saying that when a person doesn’t wear their seat belt, that they are going to wreck. He picked nothing over a seat belt. And that was the last choice he made. He was a 17-year-old boy out with his friends. “Their car hit a boulder, sending it airborne. As it tumbled over the 100ft embankment, hitting another large boulder as it rolled, the two boys sitting in the back seat were thrown through the back window. The driver’s body was ejected through the sunroof after reportedly being killed from the impact of her body colliding with the airbag exploding into her chest. The fourth passenger, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, stayed in the car throughout the entire terrifying ordeal. He was able to climb out and eventually call for help” (Rogers). Her son was one of the boys that went out the back window. It’s awful that his mother has to picture her baby boy’s’ last seconds on this earth was of him flying out of a window to his death. Does that sound horrible? Yes, but this story is a horrible thing. Is it horrible that this was a survivable crash (Rogers)? Yes, but this is the result of their horrible
