This class is an online course in Science and Religion. The purpose of this class is to engage students in the on going discussion of the interplay of science and religion. Using the knowledge obtained from class students will be able to communicate with others on the subject matter and continue to educate themselves after the conclusion of this course. This class will teach students about the differing belief systems of world religions and how they impact human relationships and societies. Also, students will gain an understanding of the growing tension between scientific advancements and religious beliefs. Scientific advancements are continual whereas religious beliefs are a set of ideas built from thousands of years ago. Is it possible to be able to blend together these two forms of reasoning or is it better to keep them separate?

During this course students will work to gain an in-depth understating of the relationship between science and religion by challenging the assumptions that they are independent from one another. Additionally, the characteristics of science and religion will be studied in-depth while comparing and contrasting evidence-based to faith-based reasoning. …show more content…

Another goal is to learn the basis of relativity and quantum theory introduced by Einstein and how his revolutionary ideas questioned how society viewed religion. Another goal is to gain an understanding of religious beliefs that are intertwined in Einstein’s theories. The next goal is to learn how Charles Darwin’s research has impacted modern biology and how the theory of evolution contrasts with religious ideas. The final goal is to gain an understanding of the ongoing conversation between those who believe that we were created from a higher being and those who believe that we are a result of millions of years of
