In reviewing the personal qualities that have influenced my career as a real estate developer, I would first like to identify those qualities that I have found to be foundational and which have served as guides for my life, both personally and professionally. These foundational qualities include honesty, integrity, dependability and competency. These four qualities are of the utmost importance to the success of one’s professional career and toward the contributed success of the organizations they work for. Looking back over my career, it is clear that these four qualities have led to the confidence of others in my work and, ultimately, career advancement. From the earliest point in my career, my ambition has been to be a real estate developer. The interest has been driven from the beginning by my entrepreneurial spirit, analytical capabilities, and decisive constitution – all personal qualities that lend themselves to a career in real estate -- and more recently by a strong desire to be an effective and creative leader.
In considering the MS in Real Estate Development, I desired a program that would not only compliment my academic background, but lend substance to my professional work experience. In 1993, I graduated from Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Upon graduating, I went to work for Jack Kent Cooke Incorporated located in Middleburg, Virginia. My initial responsibility was to provide the accounting related functions for the operations of the Chrysler and Kent Buildings in New York. In 1996, I was promoted by Jack Kent Cooke and given the opportunity to work on the construction of Jack Kent Cooke Stadium as the Project Manager and Accountant. In this role, I was res...

The State of Missouri requires professionals to obtain a license before providing services to the public, in many careers. Misconceptions hold that issuance of licenses is just something that is needed in order to charge money for services. Licenses are issued however, because the public puts their trust in professionals who are more knowledgeable than they are. Many people today want to avoid the hassles and risks associated with the transfer of land, so they put their trust in licensed real estate professionals. The Missouri Broker Disclosure Form (MBDF) is a document used by the Missouri State Real Estate Commission that attempts to provide the public, knowledgeable information, about agency relationships (the fiduciary relationship between buyers/sellers and agents). It also holds real estate agents and brokers somewhat accountable to the public in representing them in their best interest; all real estate agents are required to present and explain this form to buyers and sellers. It seems in today’s society that greed, corruption, and self-interest has spread like an infectious disease and we live in a world where it is risky to put our trust in other people. The government tries to respond to that corruption by putting into place more regulations and laws to keep people honest. In summary, the Missouri Broker Disclosure Form is a document designed to help the public make an informed choice about the agency type, of the people that they are putting trust in, and the fiduciary commitments due to them.
Buying or selling a house or an apartment is one of the biggest decisions of a person’s life. And when selling or establishing a price for real estate, people seek out real estate agents to do the dirty work. A real estate agent has to convince a prospective homeowner that he or she is trustworthy and knowledgeable. In many ways, the agent acts as a counselor to individuals and families about to embark on a huge commitment. Real estate agents have a thorough knowledge or real estate market in their community. They

While Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a movie that mostly focuses on the balance between family and professional life, there are many relations between this movie and residential property management. Throughout this essay I will consider the information we have learned within our course content and relate it back to the happenings within Mr. Popper’s Penguins. I will also evaluate what could or should have been done to improve certain situations. As someone who would like to pursue a career in residential property management, I find that it is not only entertaining, but also beneficial to look for ways to be a better member of the RPM community within everyday life, such as movies like this one that feature characteristics of RPM.
An interest in business and agricultural studies has always taken some form throughout my life, whether it was running a farm in seventh grade, building a mentoring program during freshmen year or acting as the treasurer for National Honors Society. At first I was learning to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables and then determining how to sell them in order to achieve a net profit. Later I studied how to successfully construct a budget for a new mentoring class at our school and this year I have studied the complex theories of economics and management taking place on a worldwide scale. These experiences have built my passion for Applied Economics and Management at Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Sciences. This specific college has the classes and professors that demonstrate the same interests I am looking for in college. Although I have already gained a great amount of business knowledge, my studies have also taught me about the endless approaches and lenses in which you can view a business problem. Whether it be to delve into the mind of the consumer and understand what mak...

I wanted to continue my career abroad. Therefore, I made a detailed research and ended up going to the United States because of its worldwide reputation in academics. My initial research showed me that Southern part of United States would be most education friendly due to social, climate and financial reasons. Besides, a field like Public Administration requires one to be involved in a more diverse environment as it is any government’s job to provide service to its citizens from diverse background. Grambling State University, with its diverse environment and friendly atmosphere was the most suitable one. Due to this reason, after completing the English as Second Language Program of ELS center in Ruston, I applied to Grambling State University. At the beginning I was required to take some undergraduate level classes to improve my knowledge and skills. I have successfully completed fifteen cou...

Gathering information about what it takes to become a real estate and just what it is that a real estate agent actually does required me to do a significant amount of research. The first action that I took was to sit down with my grandfather, who happens to be a real estate agent. I asked him what I should look in to in order to gain a better understanding of his profession. After interviewing him, we went to the offices of Atova Real Estate where I observed the daily activities of the real estate agents who work in the office. Later, we went to the offices of Pioneer Title, Guild Mortgage, and the Idaho Intermountain Multiple Listing Services. We di...
