While Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a movie that mostly focuses on the balance between family and professional life, there are many relations between this movie and residential property management. Throughout this essay I will consider the information we have learned within our course content and relate it back to the happenings within Mr. Popper’s Penguins. I will also evaluate what could or should have been done to improve certain situations. As someone who would like to pursue a career in residential property management, I find that it is not only entertaining, but also beneficial to look for ways to be a better member of the RPM community within everyday life, such as movies like this one that feature characteristics of RPM.
One of the first things that I noticed about Mr. Popper’s living situation was that he seemed to live within a contemporary corporate culture. He lived in a modern, high-rise apartment community. Overall, Mr. Popper’s Penguins was an enjoyable movie. When looking at it from a residential property management side of things there are many flaws. This is evident even without knowing all the ins and outs of the apartment community and it’s procedure. I can only imagine what other issues would need to be faced. The main issue was that there were policies being broken. When these issues were brought to the attention of the apartment community staff, nothing was done about it. In fact, the staff blatantly looked away. These issues could have been resolved by hiring a staff that had integrity. Doing the right thing is very important in an RPM setting. It may not always be the popular opinion among the residents, or even members of the staff, but in the long run, it will prove most fruitful.
