School Violence As a responsible adult would you ever knowingly send a child into a dangerous situation? The majority of adults would say of course not, but unfortunately this is exactly what happens up to five days a week through much of the school year. Sadly, many school aged children are subjected to violence at school on a daily basis. The Center of Disease Control and Prevention, reports that, “School violence is youth violence that occurs on school property, on the way to or from school or during school-sponsored events (Youth Violence).” Students may be physically abused or emotionally humiliated at the very place that adults send them to thrive and grow. Students who tend to be violent towards others may be exhibiting behavior that they have witnessed in other places such as; their home, on television or video games. In many homes across America the family unit has fallen apart. Parents no longer take an interest in what their children are doing. There is no monitoring of improper behavior or activities. This often leaves children watching programs or playing games that are chalked full of violence. They may feel alone or rejected by their family and/or friends, therefore enjoy inflicting pain on others in order to feel empowered. Then there are the youth addicted to the violent programs and games who may themselves be victims of bullying, they can gain a false sense of confidence and power and use the violence they see as a way to retaliate against those who have harmed them. So as you can see the problem with bullying cannot be disregarded especially since it accounts for seventy-seven percent of school violence (Neuman). The fact is that school violence will remain as long as bullies continue inflicting violence upon others, which in turn cause those who are bullied to lash back with their own violence. Although bullying itself can be violent behavior, often times violence is an actual after effect of the harm done by the bullying. Because of the depression or low self esteem after a bullying incident, both bullies and victims sometimes feel the need to lash out violently in order to handle the situation at hand. Although this is not necessary, in some minds this is the only way to handle a situation. When talking about school violence, it’s rampant in school and among the student is the cause of it, there are many students from a different background that they were brought by different behavior. “Studied of school violence have variously used terms a teen aggression, conflict, delinquency, conduct disorders, criminal behavior to describe the sources of the problem,” (Meadows 2014 pg.126), Some children have violent behavior in their blood may be because of what they have faced in their early life, their experience, even some are influenced by peer pressure and family, all this violent behavior make majority of student be a victim like peter case, what I think is lack of tolerance and he thinks people should be treated the way he was treated and the revenge is the solution to his problem. In conclusion, School Violence is a widespread issue that must be addressed. School shootings and bullying are some of the biggest issues in today’s school system. Many times the seed of the issue begins with bullying and ends with consequences like suicide and school shootings. They affect people as early as elementary school all the way to the college level, some even ending with death. Only together can we stop school violence if we take a stand and change the world.

It is necessary for the schools in the United States to take more action in order to keep the students safe during the day. It is obvious that schools are not safe, forcing everyone to take a part in stopping the violent behavior which takes place in schools on a daily basis. There are many warning signs and ways to prevent this violence from taking place, it is just a matter of using money more wisely and creating more programs for preventing violence before it erupts in schools. There is no excuse for students to feel unsafe in an environment which the government forces them to be in. It is necessary that more action take place and that more training take place in order for schools to be safer, and in the event where violence does occur, the staff of the school is equipped to stop it before it gets out of hand. There is no time like now to keep the children and our schools safe from predators and especially from school violence.

American citizens should never have to cope with the negative impact of school violence, no matter how often they hear about the tragedies (Jones, "Parents" 1). In the past, schools were viewed as a safe place for children to get an education. Recently, the concern over violence in schools has taken a toll on many parents, school administrators, and legislatures (Eckland 1). Studies have shown that there are over 3 million acts of violence in American public schools each year. Not all occurrences are serious and deadly, but they occur on a daily basis throughout our country (Jones, “School” 6). This has caused many parents to worry about the well-being of their children while they are in class. This has also led to an increase in questions and concerns by parents and guardians. Bullying is a repeated harmful act that continues to affect millions of students every year. There is no stereotypical person that is a target for bullying; anyone can be its victim. There may not always be any signs of physical harm during these attacks, but our children always suffer emotional harm. Educating students, teachers and parents seems to be the only valid solution to this problem. There are many organizations that can educate the schools on this subject but for it to work people must care. Maybe one day, when enough people realize that this problem will not go away with out their help, we can eliminate bullying from our schools. Violence in schools has spread widely throughout the nation. This has caused many problems among students, families, faculty of schools, and residents of the area. However, there are many possible ways we can stop all this violence in schools. Almost three-fourths of the United States teens are afraid of violent crime amongst their peers (Apfel 23). Violence in schools has become a big problem in today's society.
As the exposure to violence prolongs, a child begins to believe that violence is an acceptable behavior or the answer to receiving what they want. Outcomes such as trauma, emotional disorders, stress, and behavioral problems are also prevalent as the exposure to violence occurs. Children often learn their behavior from adults or peers and although a child might not be physically involved, but even being an audience, he/she is learning the negative behavior. There must be an effort to put a stop to violence in schools, households, or even in communities as it affects children greatly.
The lack of parental attention causes a feeling of insecurity leading someone to acquit bullying. On the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a day does not go by without talking of the violence coming into schools from the streets. Patrick O'Donnell, a reporter for the Plain Dealer wrote a story on a high school in Strongsville where the school virtually shut down classes due to Internet threats of violence made on the school by an 18-year-old boy. Though the student is charged with misdemeanor counts of aggravated menacing and inducing panic among the students, how can we as abiding citizens of society reduce and even eliminate such violence in schools? Furthermore, last week, seven students were suspended at South High School in Cleveland and one of them was arrested after a sophomore threw a chair that knocked out an assistant principal because of a brawl between students. (Reed, 2005) School is meant to be a safe haven for children, a place where you come to learn and not to plan-out who your next victim will be.
