“This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in” -Theodore Roosevelt. The quote means that we need to help and serve for our country because without our help our country will not be good. The importance of community service and local government is helping the community out with all kinds of things like a soup dinner and also learning new things at school board meetings that your school does and how it reflects on you. I attended a school board meeting in April and it was an interesting topic and what students and staff should know about. For next year there is a big class coming up and they don’t have enough teachers to teach them all so they decided to go on a period …show more content…
At school board meetings they will have guest speakers come in and talk about what they can do for our school and see if they could benefit our school. I attended a school board meeting in May and I thought it was very interesting about the topics that were brought up. Guest speakers from Grant Wood AEA came and talked to the board and why they want to be part of school and they said they can provide for schools that cannot afford some things. They also said that they have worked with Center Point-Urbana before and they enjoyed their experience. The board brought up the transgender bathroom discussion and I found that to be different, but after they talked about why they brought it up it made sense of why we should not allow whoever to go into the restrooms whenever they want. They really talked about the parking lot and how it is a big issue and what they need to do. They talked about even having the freshman that drive park at the football field which I am in favor for. They also said they are building a second parking lot and would be 200,000 dollars for it and would be located where the practice field is right now. The school board committee even talked to us students and asked what time the school parking lot is the most crowded and what we thought of parking. Sometimes meetings can be boring and …show more content…
Community service is a good thing to get involved in because it teaches you that giving back to the community is very helpful and everyone appreciates it. It is very easy, all you have to do is go there and people will tell you what to do and these tasks are simple. When I volunteered to be part of the soup dinner I was nervous at first, but after a little bit I was completely fine. Everyone at the church was really nice and they appreciated the help a lot. All I had to do was put food on tables for people that came in and go get food when they were out. Most of the people that came into the dinner were older and they all ate their food really fast! When tables were done we would buff them and restock when more people showed up. Community service was a simple task that helps out the people who run it so much. The soup dinner was already set up when we got there so it was easy and they just told us our jobs and sent us off. Community service is something everyone can do and benefit from the experience and make you a better
Connecting people to the success of the district is one matter, but asking them to support it financially is another. The district is growing in size and is in need of new facilities and internal academic structures to support the growth. As the district continues to grow she is challenged with ensuring that the schools continue to interact with each other and do not return to the independent silos they were when she arrived. Ms. Hall realizes that she is the internal and external face of the district. She takes that very seriously and therefore, tires to view challenges as opportunities and successes as building blocks and
I think that community service is something that everyone should do. Some people only do community service because they need the hours for school or an extracurricular activity, but when you something nice for another person, it not only makes you feel 100 times better about yourself, it also, whether you know it or not, improves another person's life. Being able to give to another person without expecting anything in return is the best quality that a person can have because the 21st century is a time where a portion of people have what they want at their fingertips. What some people don't realize is that not everyone has the blessings of living the life that they have, that is why I try so hard to give back to the community. I personally do community service a lot, and seeing the faces of the people that I have helped means so much to me because I know deep down that I have done something that required me to put others needs before my own. I get that feeling when I help out in the special needs class at my school. I feel complete when the students give me hugs and thank me for my help. That feeling motivates me and makes me a happier person. Even when all I can do for another person is make them smile, I feel like I have done something important that has helped someone more than I
The role of school boards “is to establish a vision for the community's schools that reflects a consensus of the board, community and district staff.” Although this is their main purpose, they also have to balance a district budget, create a district-yearly calendar, negotiate contract, construction, and approve district curriculum. (Stover 1) Although it might seem harsh to argue with school boards even though they do a lot, it is their job. They were appointed to lead and better the community, guide our children. If they are not mentally ready to be a leader, then why run for a school board member, the focus should be on the children, how to better education for them, and how to make sure they get the most out of every day coming to school.
By having school board meetings, it helps to see what the school’s needs. This is very important for the reason that this may be the only time that a concern parent or person voice might be heard. From this meeting, it was learned that the school board members are willing to help people that have concerns. An example, of this, was when the concern Pre-K parent was worried that she heard that Pre-K has been just a daycare. However, someone from the board mentioned to her that she would personally go with the parent the next day and show her how Pre-K is running during the day. This made the parent so happy because her concerns were being met. I have learned that school board members look out for the students and that they are the number one source that community members should go to if they have a concern or a suggestion to better their children’s
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the
Community Service is a great opportunity to make a difference in the area you live in. There are so many ways to volunteer. Some people are given chances to do community service when they need to pay off fines for tickets. Most people simply do because they love getting involved. It’s their way of making the community a cleaner, healthier place.
Community service: What a wonderful opportunity for students! A chance for our younger citizens to learn responsibility, experience the satisfaction that comes with helping others and to acquire new skills.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
As a result, it can be concluded that the community interaction for this meeting was largely inert. All who attended the meeting were there for a specific purpose, such as giving a presentation, announcing the audit, and serving as a student
The meeting began when the school board members entered the large group instruction room and took their seats at a panel table angled to the side of the audience. The school board consists of nine elected members from the community. The members are as follows: Paul Ridley (President), Pat Vigliotta (Vice President), Helen Cumminskey (Secretary), Carla Manion ( Asst. Secretary), Timothy Bean (Treasurer), David Feely (Board Member), Keith Hatch (Board Member), Shane Oschman (Board Member), and Joseph Troutman (Board Member). Three members of the board were missing; however because of where the seats were located I could not see who was missing. Also, the member did not introduce themselves and left before people could address them.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
Volunteering has a positive effect on your community and it’s good for you too. Volunteering can teach you a lot of different things that you did not know about yourself,Me being a high school senior in ROTC and helping others is a win- win it makes you feel good and the people around you. You're not just helping the community you're helping the people in it also. That is a great feeling to know you can put a smile on someone else's face that is best return gift I got helping someone.
Community service is more than just hours; you are not being paid, just going out to service the community out the kindness of your heart. Community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community, the joy of giving back to the community. Doing community service is a great way to get involved with the community. There are always people and businesses looking for help, and it is usually easy to find a way to help. When I had to do this volunteer services for psychology, I was excited because I am already actively involved with helping the community, from volunteering back at home to volunteering here in Augusta.
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
I used to hate community service. I only did it if it was a requirement for graduation or for a program. Even when I did community service, I still waited until the very last opportunity to do it. When I heard the words community service, all I could picture is cleaning Philadelphia parks or streets that were filled with trash in either the cold or heat. My mind always went to that space because that 's what my first few encounters with community service consisted of. My high school always had us cleaning something; one time we re-landscaped the parking lot of a homeless shelter. Another time, we cleaned up the weeds out of the loading docks of the non-profit food bank Philabundance. One time my mom made me volunteer
