Sand Bunkers
There are approximately sixty-five sand bunkers on the golf course. The bunkers do add appeal to the golf course while providing significant challenge. Sand bunkers are expensive to maintain. The labor to rake bunkers, to maintain bunker banks and to repair bunkers that wash from storms requires many man-hours. Sand bunkers that do not receive regular play and that offer very little aesthetic or strategic value are hard to justify and their removal will reduce operational costs. Mr. Mungeam is most qualified to discuss that issue in more detail.
We did discuss the bunker washout concern. Renovating the bunkers might be costly initially but in the long run will save operation costs and preserve the life of the bunker sand. The work should also make the golf course more enjoyable for play. Bunkers that have sand-flashed faces should be equipped with an interceptor drain across the face of the bunker to help cut down some of the washout. It might be better to grass some of the larger bunker faces that have been prone to washout.

Some of the new harder liners are effective but are costly to install. Geotextile and other synthetic bunker liner materials are also being used. However, it is difficult to manage around this type of liner, which often becomes exposed. Turf liners provide another lining option to help cut down on washout and sand contamination. The turf liners have a finite life span, but are a fairly inexpensive option to prevent rock contamination.
Consider lowering the height of cut on a number of the grass faced bunker banks that are in high play areas. This does not mean the banks have to be cut down to a 2–3 inch height of cut. Instead, maintain the grass faces at 4–5 inches. This should be helpful in regards to pace-of-play while allowing the fescue to be maintained.

The agency I chose to do is the Hillandale golf course, which is located in Durham North Carolina. The reason why I chose to do my project on Hillandale golf course because since the beginning of the semester I have been traveling over to the golf course twice a week for a class learning the rules and the way the game of golf is played. Hillandale golf course is named the “Granddaddy golf course of Durham/ Research Triangle golf”. Hillandale was donated to the Durham area back in 1911 through the philanthropic interests of long-time Durham resident John Sprunt Hill. Donald Ross and Perry Maxwell originally designed the course. Donald Ross had designed the first 9 holes and Perry Maxwell came up with the last 9 holes. Since 1960 over 1.7 million rounds of golf have been played that being an average of 45,000 yearly. This public golf course provides a challenge from each level of players in the game of golf. In 1960, the Hillandale Golf Course was moved to its current location in Durham and was redesigned by George Cobb, who is also the designer of the Surf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The House of Sand and Fog exemplifies the American Dream from different angles, based on the characters portrayed in the novel. The three main characters have individual concepts of what is meant by the American Dream. Mr. Behrani is an ex-Iranian Colonel with a strong connection to his culture and family values. He wants the best for his family. Kathy is a newly separated women. She has a distant relationship with her family, but is connected by the home left in her possession by her deceased father. Lester has a much diluted sense of values, family and the American Dream. He has a sense of self fulfillment, disregarding the needs of most other people. The characters all want the American Dream, but their definition and method of obtaining the American Dream differ from one another.
The revolutionary war of the United States of America was a time of many important battles fought in the name of freedom and independence from Great Britain, the greatest military power of the world at the time. One of these famous battles that took part of the history of the American Revolution is known as the Battle of Bunker Hill. Taking place on the night of June 16, 1775, the Battle of Bunker Hill was a battle that resulted in an American loss of the battle, but also hurt the British Army significantly and boosted the American rebels’ morale during the Revolution. The battle took place in Charleston, Massachusetts, specifically on the Charleston Peninsula, which was home to Bunker Hill and Breed’s Hill and had a vital oversight of the Boston Harbor, the most important harbor in the Americas at the time.
The course is run on a variety of surfaces, none of which come close to ideal . Around 10% is run on rough dirt roads while 10% is run on old dirt roads which are now overgrown with grass. Approximately 20% is run on rough trails with 40% being on old abandoned trails which are said to be easily mistaken for the deer trails that are actually better. The remaining 20% is run on no trails at all but is actually bushwhacking through the forest.

The crowd moves quietly to the seats. The area is silent except with the click of the guard’s shoes. The relief commander walks out and announces The Changing of the Guard ceremony is about to commence; as he is talking, a new guard walks out ready to take the place of the guard on duty. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier contains three men: a testament to all of the unknown fallen soldiers. The tomb continues to honor these soldiers through the ceremonies and symbolism behind the guards’ movements.
Golf is the ultimate battle between man and nature. It is a beautiful sport in which dreams come true and hearts are broken. Man is challenged on every stroke by nature’s elements. Wind and rain are only a few of the conditions that affect this great game. Undulating hills, sand bunkers, thick rough, and even creeks and ponds come into play on most golf courses. These features are fierce at Augusta National Golf Course. Located along the fall line, the natural beauty of the region is the perfect complement to this championship golf course. Every spring when the flowers are in full bloom, Augusta plays host to The Masters Championship and is transformed into the Mecca of Golf.

Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose known present day as Fort Mose was established in 1738 by a Spanish governor, Manuel de Montiano, in St. Augustine. The leader of this fort was a slave by the name of Francisco Mendez, who helped in the defense of British in 1727, and was captured by the Spanish and was later given an unconditional freedom and freed. It was the first town to house free black slaves in the United States of America who came from Carolina plantations with the help of the Indians. In return for the slaves freedom, the Spanish had to convert their religion to Catholic as well as servicing the king as he sees fit.
The Sandy Hook Lighthouse was first thought of in 1961 when New York merchandise made an petition to the Colonial assembly for a lighthouse to be built so the ships can see where they were going and prevents anymore shipwrecks. The Assembly agreed to this and then came up with an act to raise three thousand pounds by the lottery for the lighthouse to be built. New york citizens approve for a small land to be bough and after Compromises with Robert Hartshorne, the owner of Sandy Hook, resulted in the purchase, on May 16, 1762 for 750 pounds. By June 11, 1764 then lighthouse lighted for the first time. In order for the lighthouse to be run the Colony of New York authorize a tonnage tax of three pence so this can enable the port and along with
With the game continuing to progress, it hasn’t gotten any easier, yet that is a simple fix. When it comes to making golf easier, shortening the golf course would be a huge advantage to the everyday golfer. Even just playing from the correct tee box, would have just as big of an advantage. With the PGA tour’s average drive going around three hundred yards, it is understandable to play a course at over seven thousand yards. Yet for the average golfer, who is hitting it around fifty to seventy five yards shorter, it is extremely difficult to shoot a low score. As written by Jack Nicklaus in Golf Digest Magazine, “golfers want a challenge but end up playing from the wrong tees. The game needs to become more concise.” Nicklaus makes a great point in saying this,...
One of my favorite movies of all time is the Sandlot. This has been one of my favorites ever since I was a little girl. Which might be weird for most young girls to like a movie about baseball, but I loved watching it with my family. It was a movie that we all enjoyed. The movie starts when Scottie smalls moves to a new neighborhood towards the end of the school year. He wanted to make some new friends before summer started. One day after school, Scottie follows a group of kids to the sandlot and we watched them play baseball. Scottie did not know how to play baseball, but the group he followed friended Scottie and taught him how to play baseball. The boys caught themselves in a bit of a pickle, when Scottie barrows his step dad’s baseball,
To start off, Now, we come to the tee-box where we put our stretching and breathing into effect creating the positive mentality, followed by a few quick practice swings. You then tee-up the ball, making sure the ball is lined up with the center of the face of the club. Then, you line up your shot and swing away, sending the ball flying down the middle of the fairway, creating a sense of euphoria. Next, we approach our second shot, making sure to choose the correct club according to the distance from the green. Once again, you line up your shot and swing, letting the ball coast and land on the green, as close to the hole as you possibly could. Now, comes the trickiest part which is reading the green. You grab your putter, then step back and squat, all the time trying to visualize the ball path. You, determine then were you should line up your putt depending on the break which is in the ball path. You step up to the ball, line up your putt, and swing your arms like a clock pendulum. The ball sinks into the hole sending you into a jumping fit of excitement. Thus, neatly showing how you can successfully play a hole of
The Sandia Mountains named after a watermelon in Spanish because of the red light that shines over them in the evening. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, it’s great for an afternoon hike. We decide to drive to the mountains and arrived at around 2 pm.
“To protect and manage the Nation's natural resources and cultural heritage; provide scientific and other information about those resources; and honor the trust responsibilities or special commitments to American Indians, Alaska Natives, and affiliated island communities” (U.S. Department of the Interior). This is the strong and proud mission statement of our nation’s Department of the Interior, which over looks over 500 million acres of U.S. land today. On March 3rd, 1849, on the eve of President Zachary Taylor's inauguration, a bill was passed to change the Nation’s internal affairs. The overall goal of this branch is to protect and manage our natural resources and cultural heritage.
