Interview Assignment
N.F. is a 58-year-old Caucasian male of Irish descent who is diagnosed with the undifferentiated form of schizophrenia. He has been living with his diagnosis after he was diagnosed at the age of 17. N.F. believes that his illness has affected his life by keeping things to himself as a result of paranoia that he experiences, occasionally. He has been in a relationship with his girlfriend, who he has been dating for more than 20 years. Currently, N.F. lives in an apartment in Suffolk County in New York.
His goals are to graduate from college to become a chef, then owning his organic restaurant. Although N.F. says that it will not affect his goals, he says that his biggest fear is returning to the hospital because of something was able to comprehend my directions of the assessment. Even though I offered N.F. the opportunity to ask me questions prior to the start of the assessment tool, N.F. stated to me that he had no questions to ask. Accordingly, I assumed that I did not need to answer any questions. When I began administering the Occupational Questionnaire, N.F. completed the activity column first before completing the columns composing of the questions. Since there are 48 rows and 5 columns to complete, N.F. took his time completing the questionnaire with minimal guidance, even though I was watching him the entire time (Smith et al., 1986).
From my perspective, it did not appear to me that N.F. experienced frustration with completing the assessment tool, based from his facial expressions. I trusted myself that the Occupational Questionnaire would benefit N.F. because based on the interview, N.F. engages in many occupations each day, yet he expressed to me that he would rather engage in certain occupations over other occupations, such as socializing with his friends, versus cleaning his room, and finding a balance to do all of
Casey was that of the Person Environment Occupation Performance Model. This model was developed by Charles Christiansen and Carolyn Baum in 1991 (Lee, 2010). The PEOP is a client centred approach that looks at occupational performance and how it is influenced by the relationship that exists between a person and their environment (Cole and Tufano, 2008). The OT student felt this model applied to Ms. Casey, as it was evident that her physical impairment had impacted on her performance of meaningful occupations and engagement within her environment. There are four components to this model: Occupations, Performance, Person, Environment (Cole and Tufano, 2008). Person comprises of the ‘physiological, psychological, neurobehavioural, cognitive and spiritual factors’ that are intrinsic factors (Cole and Tufano, 2008, pp. 128), while Environment consists of the ‘physical, natural, cultural, societal, and social interactive factors and social and economic systems’ that are extrinsic factors (Cole and Tufano, 2008, pp. 128). The PEOP model supports client centred practice, as partnership between the client and therapist is necessary in order to enable the client to set goals and establish an approach that supports performance and participation in occupation (Christiansen and Baum, 2015). ...h the inventory is very easy to use and is self explanatory, it’s seems important to evaluate when and why the test is being used with the client and how the results are going to benefit the client. Because the assessment is a self-report assessment, it’s so crucial to help the client understand how important an honest evaluation of their symptoms is to an accurate score.
In such a multicultural world, being knowledgeable and understanding of not only your cultural background, but that of others is essential. Building my awareness on cultures different from my own, and how it shapes an individual’s identity, will foster my personal and professional development. Subsequently, I conducted a cultural interview with an individual whose cultural background differed from my own. Several similarities and differences between our cultures were apparent in the interview, specifically in the areas of race, ethnicity, language, values, and worldview.

Interviews are very popular among most individuals especially researchers and scholars as they attempt to obtain information and data from an interviewee. However, there are many factors that influence the interview and which determines its success or failure. Often, the interviewer takes charge of the situation, and they have the sole responsibility of asking the questions while the interviewee provides an explanation or an answer to the question asked. As a result, an interview can be defined as a consultation or a discussion in person through which information and data are exchanged regarding a particular phenomenon event with the intention of establishing the interviewee’s position. As I sat down with Jordan Fisher, on April 30th, we looked out the window to a gloomy, rainy day. It was wet and nasty day, but Jordan agreed to sit down with me to discuss his position as an HR officer. Jordan started with the Federal Government, 30 years ago at the age of 20. Now 50 Jordan is looking forward to retiring with his wife, stating “I enjoy it here, I really do—but I can’t wait to retire.” While Jordan plans to work for one more year before retiring, the knowledge and experience that he has gained from the position will never leave him. Although the assessment may have sound validity the author’s failure to mention the title and expertise of the two researchers who develop the assessment may be in question.
The task of completing the mock interview was very insightful and yet nerve-wracking. This experience allowed me to learn a lot about how others and prospective employers may perceive me. In addition, I also learned a lot about myself. I took some time in advance to plan for the interview. I considered aspects such as when to arrive, what to wear and preparing a resume. This prior planning helped me to have a successful interview.
