Samantha Nicole Alencaster- Galvan, BAU detective, elementary teacher, dies at 88. Samantha Alencaster died of cancer. She is survived by her husband of 85 years, Matthew, her two children Kisa and Dominic, and five grandchildren. The cancer that killed her, she knew she already had it since she was 30 years old and didn't do anything about it. Her oncologist, Dr. Guffy, told her that she can't just act like it isn't there, that she has to take care of herself. She said to her, "I don't want anyone to know because I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me and to be quite honest with you, that is not how I want to be remembered". She began her first career when she was only 26 years old as a BAU detective. She was known as Detective Galvan simply because it sounded way better than Detective Alencaster. Her job as a detective in the BAU was to track down criminals based on their patterns and on their behavior. Being the youngest member of her team, she was still truly admired by her colleagues. Growing up in the 1930’s, Alice explained that even though times are very different now, she always had food to eat, a bed to sleep in, and any other opportunity she set her mind to. The interviewer was pleasantly set back, assuming that Alice would have had a more difficult upbringing being that she grew up so long ago. Alice felt as if she was very blessed and grateful to have grown up having those resources available to her and her family. Alice lived on a farm the first 65 years of her life. She expressed how many lessons she learned throughout her years on the farm, and how they have shaped her to become the woman she is now. Some of the important lessons she learned on the farm were hard work, dealing with death (of animals) at an early age, how to prioritize responsibilities and how to respect others.
