In Ray Bradbury’s All Summer in a Day the reader learns that sadness and depession can come from bullying. There are many reasons why I think this and here are some of them.
One example of this is
“That was Magot’s poem, read in a clutch voice in the still classroom the rain was falling outside.
Aw you didn’t write that”
The quote means that one of the boys were making fun of Margot’s amazing poem about the sun but it wasn’t appreciated by anyone else. Another example of this is when the kids pushed and shoved Margot because she didn’t want to speak to them.
While someone might argue that the theme is jealousy they forget that in the text is says that Margot was sad when the class bullied her. When the kids locked Margot in the closet,
she was probablly really sad that she didn’t get to see the sun and everyone would behave like the way they did. Another reason why the theme is sadness is that Margot was always sad because the rain and she just wanted to see the sun. Certainly it can be said that the theme is jealousy, while this is a good point they forgot that the kids locked Margot in the closet so that would probably be sad for Margot not being able of seeing the sun. Another reason I think sadness is the theme is because when Margot was talking about the sun to the class the kids didn’t believe her even though they probablly knew that she remembered they just wanted to be mean to her. ““All a joke!” said the boy, and seized her roughly. “Hey, everyone, let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes!” The quote means that a kid is making fun of her and is planning on locking her in the closet so she doensn’t get to see the sun. In conclusion Ray Bradbury’s All Summer In A Day the theme is sadness can come from bullying because of the reasons that are above.
In the story it says, “About how it was like a lemon, it was, and how hot . . . I think the sun is a flower, That blooms for just one hour.” This connects back to my idea that outcasts are sometimes the solution to society’s problems. Due to this quote, Margot’s statement about the sun is what makes her an outsider in the eyes of society. Later in the passage, it is revealed that Margot’s statement about the sun was correct and solved the problem of what the children think the sun resembles.
When it comes to Fahrenheit 451 there is a part that goes with “We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren’t happy. Something’s missing”. While reading Fahrenheit 451 the people aren’t completely happy when it comes to life, although they think they are. One aspect that Bradbury might be defining happiness as the idea of knowledge. When it comes to the idea of Happiness it is said that it might be defined as knowledge but such an idea in Fahrenheit 451 because Bradbury says that “something’s missing” to be happy and the only thing that is missing in the futuristic society that is Fahrenheit 451 are books which lead to the expansion of knowledge. This knowledge leads people to think for themselves in the aspect of what they want not what the society tells them to want and that way they can find happiness and what makes them happy by themselves, instead of being programmed to think they are happy when they really are not. Salinger, Holden Caulfield, a 16-year old boy, can be viewed as insane in the eyes of many readers because of his behavior and actions. It is almost as if all of the children have personal vendettas against Margot dor having the foggy memory of the sun shining on her face and the warmth on her skin when the other kids only remember the bone chill of the constant gelid rain. This is an example of cruelty as theme married in the story because it shows that children will do anything so that Margot can feel the pain they have felt, but the kids have gotten caught up in their own pain and are causing more than the have ever felt.
