Population in the world is very unevenly spread out. Humans have lived as if they do not have any consequences. This is a direct result of humans only caring about bettering themselves. Africa is one of the most populated continents and it is not that big. The consequences of the world being over populated has numerous effects. These include factors such as environmental effects, depletion of natural resources, effects on the economy and mass species extinction. Overpopulation is not only an issue in Rwanda but it is such a small country that it is a prominent issue there. Overpopulation is having more individuals in certain area compared to the number of available resources. This can result from anything such as an increase in birthrates, immigration or decrease in death rates. While overpopulation shows some good points such as medical development allowing for longer lives but it brings more bad than good. The population density of Rwanda is about 448 people/ km2. The country is a small as Maryland but has almost twice the amount of people. A rapidly growing population such as that calls for a large demand in land use. Their agriculture is very inefficient and underdeveloped and it also had no variety to it. One huge problem was that all the land that was farmable was pretty much occupied already. Because of this many young people had a hard time getting married and ended up living at home. The average 20-25 year old woman was still living home and not a single man in his early twenties lived independently of his parents (book). This contributed to lethal family tensions and need to find more land to expand to. Instead of being able to have enough to feed a family of two, they had to now be able to feed three or four people for a long period of time and there was not enough land for
