First, the crisis management team (CMT) must convene to begin the formal process to a crisis (Crandall, Parnell & Spillan, 2013). After the team is convened, the crisis is assessed and the situation is evaluated to determine what the reaction will entail. When food is in the crisis, it is important to minimize the potential harm to life by assessing the situation correctly. In March of 2016, Bumble Bee Foods, INC. voluntarily recalled three specific UPC codes, due to the potential illness leading to death (Bumble Bee Team, 2016). If Bumble Bee Foods would have not recalled the tuna, the potential loss of life could have been much worse by leaving the tuna in circulation. This would be a major risk and the problem could put the company …show more content…
Once the decision is made on what direction the CMT will take, the team will communicate, monitor, delegate, prioritize and execute the plan (Crandall, Parnell & Spillan, 2013). When these steps are followed the crisis can be neutralized and damage control can be accomplished. An example of a crisis that caused problem and did not create damage control was Cadbury's worm infested candy bars in 2003. The company did not take responsibility first by stating the infestation could not have happened in the manufacturing process (Bhasin, 2011). The FDA disagreed and the two entities began to argue over how the infestation occurred. This decision created a public relation nightmare for Cadbury. Although the company finally owned up to the problem and the educational advertising increased their sales by taking ownership of the problem. Equifax had a data breach in 2017 that may affect 143 million people (Gressin, 2017). Equifax took responsibility immediately and searched for help to resolve the issue. By providing the consumers a identity monitoring program, the company was able to contain the damage to one of three important credit bureaus. Quick decisions assisted Equifax in controlling public perception about the
The marketplace can be unpredictable, as shown in the 2008 financial crisis. Since 2008 keeping track of one’s own financial means has become increasingly important. Equifax’s goal is to meet the needs of individuals and businesses by providing them with applicable data thereby allowing them to make well informed business decisions. The more organizations and individuals are informed and updated the less of a chance for financial disruptions.
From big financial and ethical scandals like Enron to WorldCom, Wells Fargo may be the next big financial and ethical scandal. Wells Fargo is one of the leading banks and credit lending companies in America. Now, they’re on a slippery slope downhill to one of the worst—and most unethical—banking and credit lending companies in America, maybe even in the world. Wells Fargo has been in an ethical uproar, has questionable ethical values, and questionable principles and practices in culture due to their downhill ethical standards. The company may have been influenced by bad stakeholder judgment, and are now struggling to maintain the company’s culture.
...g by; First, I would make sure that their is plenty of feedback for the employees. As our text suggests, "Without feedback, learning can not occur"(Crandall, W., Parnell, J. & Spillan, J. (2013). Secondly, I would make sure that I have a great crisis management team that are well trained and drilled. Thirdly, we would have a strategy and plan for crisis events. Also, It is very important to make sure that your team members are all confident in their ability to make good decisions for the company. So many times, people are afraid to make decisions. This leads to scapegoating within the departments, and the whole blame game. That doesn't get anybody anywhere.

Cancer Causing Dye Found in Foods Britain's largest food recall was under way last night after an illegal dye known to cause cancer was found to have contaminated millions of ready meals and cooking sauces. More than 350 product lines, ranging from prawn salad to Pot Noodles, were being withdrawn by supermarkets and retailers after the Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned they were contaminated by Sudan I - a red colouring normally used in products such as shoe polish and petrol. Medical experts said the presence of the chemical led to an increased risk of cancer but insisted that there was no risk of "immediate ill-health". The cost of the recall, which affects own-brand foods produced by all the major supermarkets and leading manufacturers including Heinz and Birds Eye, was estimated at more than £15m. The red dye, which is banned across the European Union, was contained in a five-ton batch of chilli powder that was used to produce Worcester Sauce by Premier Foods, one of Britain's largest food processing companies. The FSA said that the Worcester Sauce, a common flavouring in processed foods, had been sold to numerous suppliers in recent weeks, who in turn produce foods for outlets from supermarket chains to convenience stores.

The Chipotle organization was immediately faced with a public relations challenge. The organizations identified the crisis and 1st came up with a goal. Crisis Management (Lecture 1-2) Address the e coli outbreak in a way that is as aggressive as the media coverage that had reported on the events. The purpose of the plan, to take ownership of the incidents, be responsible for fixing it and regain as much consumer trust as possible. The final goal to bring their sales revenue back up.
It is very clear that the problems experienced in the companies are not lone standing but in most of the cases they are dependent on each other and there are strong bonds or relationships with regards to the cause and effects between them. It is therefore important to form or establish a strong cause and affect between them.
... corrective action plan for the oversight. This will show their constituents that they are being proactive and taking full responsibility in their social responsibility duties in correcting the error. In Union Carbide’s case, the company stepped up and addressed various oversights that needed corrected. In addition, they implemented an action plan to ensure that this incident does not happen again and provided relief aid to all of those affected by the incident. For example, they continue to provide medical equipment and supplies, and offer $5 million dollars to the Indian Red Cross.
State the purpose of the paper and an overview of what will be covered in the introduction. Tylenol's 1982 ordeal has become a classic example of successful crisis management. Johnson & Johnson faced a major crisis when their leading pain-killer medicine, extra-strength Tylenol, was found to have caused the fatalities of seven people in Chicago, Illinois. It was reported that unknown suspects took the product off store shelves, tampered it with deadly cyanide and returned it to the shelves. As a result, seven people died and consumers lost confidence and panicked over hearing the news of the incident.

The communication process is not something that begins when a crisis rears its ugly head rather it is a process that takes place in preparing for a crisis before it happens. While the term crisis represents a blanket term used to describe many situations, each situation is unique, thus presenting different obstacles to overcome. However, with a well-established advanced plan in place an organization places itself in a position to overcome and work around obstacles. The development of a comprehensive crisis management plan is one achieved through effective communication where each member of the crisis management team has an advanced shared understanding of his or her role and responsibility during a time of crisis (du Pr'e, 2005).
My third task was deciding on whether to come clean about what really happened on how those people were injured by the equipment. I decided to use great publicity choosing to do a major communication exercise and come completely clean, which was the correct choice. because that act alone could help restore credibility for the company. Handling a crisis can be very difficult for a company? But what?
... the Bahrain food control authorities must be in a position to address and counter all the threats to the system identified. For example, the threat faced from the inability to critically analyze the food regulatory agencies could expose the population to unsafe foods. In other words, there are high chances of cross-contamination of food during inspections due to weak inspection services and procedures. Worse still, the government may lack the capacity to bring food-borne diseases under control should they break out. Overreliance on imported food however remains the biggest threat to Bahrain food control system as it implies that the food problems in the countries of origin would be imported into Bahrain. One of the proposed or recommended strategies for Bahrain regarding its food control system is the adoption of an integrated approach to food control activities.
