Pricing Factors
Ruby Tuesday Inc. provides an American style of casual dining with the Ruby Tuesday restaurants and a Mexican style with Lime Fresh Mexican Grill to most of the United States by providing many types of food for a fair price. When looking at the prices for both restaurants, almost all locations across the country serve the same food for the same price. There are some exceptions where the price of the food does change but this is a range of only a dollar up or down of the average price. When comparing the prices of the different locations in different states, economies of scale is a better judgment on if the pricing is consistent across all states. For instance, the state of Oregon’s has a high minimum wage $9.25 than the state

of Florida’s which is $8.05 (Minimum-Wage.org, 2015), verifying the cause of price change. As stated in the 2014 Annual Report, Ruby Tuesday Inc. follows all the regulations in both the federal and state laws and with minimum wages fluctuating between states, making the prices change as well (p.13). The prices that Ruby Tuesday have are not just based on the economics of what is going on in each state is doing. In addition to State and Federal price adjustments, competitors of other casual dining restaurants such as Applebee’s, BJs and Red Robin are competing for prices. Since there are other alternatives in similar location such as malls, Ruby Tuesday Inc. needs to stay within the price range to attract customers in. However, other casual dining restaurants aren’t the only competitors. Fast food restaurants such as The Habit and McDonalds can become problematic when there’s financial hardship, causing customers to be on a tight budget. But that was in the past when the economy was down. Now it’s rising up and increasing customer to dine out more. While some consumer trends are based off the economy there are others that can be introduced through what the population thinks is the best thing to do. In recent years people have started to become more aware of what they are eating and are willing to pay any amount to make sure it stays within what is considered healthy. According to 15 Top Diet Trends For 2015, “nutrition experts recommend fish and seafood, eggs, legumes and nuts, poultry and dairy as healthy, high-quality proteins, followed by soy”(para. 6). Ruby Tuesday uses these trend factors to create healthy menu items along with healthy prices. This includes having all the different types of “fresh” meals that they have on their menu, like those off the Featured Items on the Ruby Tuesday online menu, and making sure that they can be purchased for under $20 (Ruby Tuesday, 2015) Psychological Pricing Techniques When customers go to Ruby Tuesday, they want a good meal for a decent price. By using different techniques of offering deals on the food, they are able to get customers comfortable to purchase their products. One strategy that Ruby Tuesday Inc. uses is odd even pricing, which as the Basic Marketing textbook states that, “odd-even pricing is setting prices that end in certain numbers” (Perreault and Cannon, 2014, p. 466). This is shown on the Ruby Tuesday’s website menu item, the Pretzel Burgers for $10.99 (Ruby Tuesday, 2015). This idea makes it seem like customers are purchasing these items for $10 rather than the more than $11 after it has been paid for which helps the customers believe that they are getting a better deal on the food that they are purchasing at the restaurants. Another form of psychological pricing that Ruby Tuesday Inc.
uses is price lining or as the Basic Marketing book puts it, “a few prices cover the field” (Perreault and Cannon, 2014, p.466. For example using the online menu for the Ruby Tuesday in Beaverton Oregon, the appetizers are all around one price while most of the main course items are more expensive but still all linger around similar prices to each other. This makes the customer feel as though they have many different options to choose from for the same price as everything else. Ruby Tuesday also uses a specific idea of “sharable appetizers,” which makes customers feel less sensitive about the price of the food because they will be sharing it with others (2015). This can also be seen with Ruby Tuesday and Lime Fresh Mexican Grill when they do their different catering events. For Ruby Tuesday, customers are allowed the ability to pick and pay for larger quantities of food from the menu provided on the website (2015). Lime Fresh does something similar, but they also have specific set items that are for parties that just want certain things, like their Burrito Platter …show more content…
(2015). The idea of getting a good deal is what the company is trying to go for with and what customers are searching for.
To make this search easy Ruby Tuesday has a way to sign up for the online connection plan, and by doing so the customers can stay connected with any deals that are going on. After signing up, customers will also be able to get a free birthday burger if they come to Ruby Tuesday on their birthday (Ruby Tuesday, 2015). This is a way to get people to feel like the company cares about their customers. Ruby Tuesday wants their customers feel like they are cared about and even providing the option to give gift cards. These gift cards, or e-gift cards are customizable with all types of options to make them feel like they are different, but what people don’t realize is that it still limits them to only be able to use the gift card at that restaurant.
Another tactic that the company uses is during the week customers are able to get endless use of the garden bar during lunch hours of 11 A.M to 3 P.M. for only $7.99 (Ruby Tuesday, 2015). This is a way for the company to try and attract more potential customers to come into the restaurants on weekdays during lunch hours by giving them access to a choice of healthy options to get when they are there. These also target specific demographics as well so that as many different types of people will be able to have the dining experience at Ruby Tuesday and purchase all the things that they
can. Product Line Pricing Cannibalizing is always a fear that companies have because of how it takes away the sales of certain products for others. With the menu of Ruby Tuesday, there are all types of different choices to pick from, whether if it’s for lunch or dinner. But with each of the different categories of the menu, they are all priced relatively the same and the products are so differentiated that there is always something for someone and they can get all get it at the same price. This could also be seen between Ruby Tuesday and the other company they own, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill, all the food is still priced around the same, but the food is different enough that anyone can choose whatever they feel is the best for them.
They have promotional activities to increase how many people come to the restaurant and how many people will come again
When different kinds of menu for lunch and dinner are included, there is an opportunity for attraction of more clients in the new outlet
For example, a cheese and pepperoni topping pizza at Domino’s is very popular because it is very tasty and delicious to many people and that is why they comeback to Domino’s. The satisfaction of a meal at Domino’s will consist of what type of pizza the customer will pick and either some chicken wings or chocolate cake added to the side. This meal will make a family very satisfied and their temptation of craving the meal again will comeback sometime later in the future, which will make them order again from Domino’s pizza. Another example, will be a dinner meal at Olive Garden, which consists of lasagna, bread sticks, and salad. This meal is very delicious and much healthier than the meal mentioned before this. This meal is a family bundle and it has a higher price than the Domino’s meal. Many customers will return to Olive Garden because this meal is great for a family dinner night. Overall, the Olive Garden meal is much better in taste, but the Domino’s meal is cheaper in
The nearest Ruby Tuesday’s location is 11590 West State Road 84 Davie, FL 33325. The nearest Red Lobster’s location is 296 North University Drive, Pembroke Pines, FL 33024. Unlike Ruby Tuesday, Red Lobster is a brand that is extremely well-known. Both restaurants welcome you once you step inside and have someone lead you to a seat. The first thing the server does is ask you what you want to drink. In both places they do not rush you either to decide what you want to drink or eat. Even before the drink is served, at Red Lobster the waiter brings you some cheddar bay biscuits to
Because Chipotle has to pay higher prices for their company’s items such as the avocados and package than its competitors. According to the MarketLine articles about Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., "For instance, an average meal at Chipotle is the range of about $8, Whereas its competitors such as McDonalds, Taco Bell and KFC has options such as Value menus that start from even $1." Chipotle food is expensive because they have the best quality ingredients that are not common such as the avocados for their competitors. But Chipotle 's competitors are getting more sales revenues of their menu items because with one dollar to can buy a meal for a
The restaurant has a liquor license and serves beers on tap, wine, and mixed drinks. Some of the most popular drinks are the mimosas. The price point for both drinks and food is very reasonable, particularly for a fish restaurant. Even most of the dinner entries are under $20. Lowcountry is a true neighborhood place, where people often come to eat several times a week. The small, intimate environment and the attractions of good, filling food mean that many of the diners know the wait staff by name and feel as though they belong to a community or a family when they walk through the
My argument for implementing the policy of factoring price differences from state to state when setting minimum wages is that it benefits a wide net of people. Factoring price differences from state to state when setting minimum wages can help change our economy and provide fairness in society in many ways. One way is by making minimum wage more efficient and compatible with the buying power of the state. It also takes into account each individual state 's prices and not just one nations prices on products. This gives a more in-depth view into what the minimum wage should be for each state. This policy 's impact on the economy and on justice grounds is that it gives every state and their workers, a fair chance to make a living and the ability to afford the products that come into the state.

The majority of the people do not know what they want when they go to eat, for example, they do not know if they want to get a burger, cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, or what toppings to add. Besides not knowing what they want to order, they prefer to pay more for the things they want. For instance, people would prefer to pay for a Heinz ketchup and not an unbranded ketchup. For the most part, people prefer to spend more money because it would make them happy and give them a better taste. People want to change the menu since they want to pay for what they want. Platonic plates do not satisfy people, so they try to change it up. People always ask to add or take away things from their food. If people were not to do this they would not like to buy certain
It depends on what type of food you get ranging from a burger, a chicken sandwich, or whatever else their menu’s have offer. As said before, Mcdonald’s is cheaper in the grand scheme of things, but really they tend to be generally the same in price. For example, a Big Mac at Mcdonald’s is $3.99 and a Whopper at Burger King is $3.49. Both restaurants have a dollar menu with different kinds of food to offer. From ice cream to burgers, they both have it. But, in the last few years Mcdonald’s has taken a few things off the dollar menu and risen the prices. While Burger King has more things on the dollar menu, that are actually a dollar! According to a survey done by Burger King, the average price of the items on their menu is $4.50. Ah, the drinks, something that most people need with their meals. The prices between soft drinks of Burger King and Mcdonald’s are actually different. At
McDonald's also focuses on the perception of value within it line of products and therefore takes care to price its menu items accordingly. Different products are priced differently depending on which target audience those items appeal to most. An extensive value menu is an essential part of any fast-food menu in recent years. The prices and products within the value menu can prove to be areas that will make or break a fast-food companies' year depending on the competitions value menus.
Price elasticity plays an important role in the lives of consumers. The price elasticity of demand is the sensitivity of the demand for a product when its price changes (McConnell, Brue, & Flynn, 2009)iv. Cafes like Panera Bread refuses payments from customers and politely asked them instead to “take what you need, and leave your fair share” (Strom & Gay, 2010)v, resulting in more people getting goods like food at a fair price that they are willing to pay. Based on the income elasticity of demand, consumers can get a better and healthier life as they will buy things with better quality as their income rises. People will go to Italiannies for pizza and not to Pizza Hut as Italiannies offers a better, tastier, healthier and wider variety of choices, even when it is more expensive. With cross elasticity of demand, consumers can get the same quality product at a cheaper price as the rivalry between substitute goods will result in price reduction or improved quality. Consumers get to travel by MAS Airlines at a cheaper price as the rivalry between MAS and other airline companies has caused its price reduction (Gunasegaran, 2011)vi. Consumers with a low budget can also buy what they need. Consumers can get more value from a package offer when buying complementary goods as they “go together”, for example: McDonald's McValue Lunch which comprises of a burger, fries, and soft drink, all for only RM5.95 onwards (My Food Fetish, 2009)vii. With this, consumers can get convenience when buying certain products.
The low prices at fast food restaurants may at first glance seem low, but the
People think that the price of fast food is cheaper than a home-cooked meal. Although many people like to eat fast food because of it is inexpensive and tasty, the actual price of the fast food is not exactly same like the menu. The price of fast food sounds affordable, but actually it is quite expensive. This is because people are influenced by the fast food restaurant’s advertisement. It illustrates the price of a set of fast food is affordable compared to cooking at home. When people go to the fast food outlet, they realize the price at the bill is not as same as the advertisement stated. The price is even higher than the price stated at the advertisement. Although the fast food advertisement provides the information that the price of fast food is low, the price in the advertisement does not include the tax and tips. On the other hand, cooking at home is much cheaper than eating fast food. It is always affordable, healthier and more emotional fulfillment when eating at home and cooking ingredients compare to eating out (Warner, 2015). The people only need to buy the ingredients and cook it by our own.It is always affordable because people only need to pay ingredients and cook it at home. There are no tax and extra tips! If people prepare their food in large quantities at home, it is more economical than buy several sets of fast food. According to Yeager (2010), “A family that commits to eating at home can save $3000 in one year and eat just as well,” (p. 52). Save and
Every consumer has a unique way of measuring benefits versus costs and will sometimes pay for higher quality items and other times buy the low costs items, depending on which has the highest value to them.
