Doesn’t it feel good to help others? What if I told you that you could join an organization that changes and saves lives, in our community and around the world?

A major part of Rotary is the 4-Way Test, a moral code for personal and business relationships. The test can be applied to all aspects of life. Written in 1932, by Herbert Taylor, it was adopted by Rotary International in the 1940’s. Never changed, the twenty four word test remains a central part of the permanent Rotary structure throughout the world, and is held as the standard by which all behavior should be measured. Today it is more important than ever because we live in a world of instant gratification. Everything is at our fingertips. With the ability to post a negative comment to Facebook or text an angry message to a loved one in an instant, we often lose sight of what is important. We allow the instantaneous nature of our world to control us and persuade us to make instant decisions, but we frequently forget the impact our decisions have on those around us. So today, I challenge you to take a few seconds to complete the 4 Way Test before everything you do. I want …show more content…
This is an imperative step. So many people allow dishonesty to slip through their lips without a second thought. This leads to destruction. I have personally seen seemingly small untruths negatively impact so many lives. Marriages ripped apart. Friendships torn at the seams. Opportunities snatched away. It is evident that NO LIE is harmless. Thus it is crucial to ask yourself, first and foremost is what you are about to say, truthful? Because if it is not, then the consequences will more than likely be more destructive than you think. You are sure to hurt those around you or cause a web of lies that tangle up the simplicities of life while setting free the immorality of deception.
The second part of the test speculates whether or not a decision is fair to all concerned. One of the very tenets that our nation was built upon is justice. Being fair in our decisions doesn’t necessarily mean we are focusing on equality, but instead are seeking justice for those around us. Why then do we choose to put aside this fairness in our everyday decisions? On a grand scale, justice is left to the high horse but on a personal everyday level, we NEED to be certain our decisions that affect others are
What is fairness? Fairness in law is decisions which will be made on the basis of a set of established rules that are known (Banks, 2007). For example, if there were no laws about using mobile phone while you are driving, it would be unfair for a person ...
Equity means giving every individual what he or she merits or, in more conventional terms, giving every individual his or her due. Equity and reasonableness are nearly related terms that are frequently today utilized conversely. There have, be that as it may, additionally been more unmistakable understandings of the two terms. While equity normally has been utilized with reference to a standard of rightness, decency frequently has been utilized as to a capacity to judge without reference to one 's emotions or intrigues; reasonableness has additionally been utilized to allude to the capacity to make judgments that are not excessively general but rather that are concrete and particular to a specific case. Regardless, an idea of desert is significant to both equity and decency. Case in point, are requesting what they think they merit when they are requesting that they be treated with equity and decency. At the point when individuals contrast over what they accept ought to be given, or when choices must be

Although there are many people at OHS who exhibit the qualities of the Rotary Four Way Test, I believe one individual stands out the most. The person I believe exhibits those qualities every day of their life would be Selena Ellison. Not only is she kind to everyone one she knows, but she is willing to help them no matter the circumstances. She is selfless and is willing to go the extra mile to let others know they always have someone in their life to lean on. During the time I have known Selena, I have come to realize that I will never meet a more kind hearted person than her. Selena Ellison passes the Rotary Four Way Test with ease because of how caring, courageous, and thoughtful she is.
By viewing the justice system from an equal justice perspective, truth in sentencing does not account for the criminal offender’s motives for breaking the law. A judge may believe it is morally right to lessen the punishment of an offender, who had good intentions for committing the crime. An individual may be placed in a circumstantially difficult situation, which could force them to commit a crime. Unfortunately for those individuals, truth in sentencing in the equal justice perspective does not allow for the judge’s discretion in that case. Therefore, if two people commit the same crime, yet one had negative intentions, he or she would face the same punishment as someone who did not have these intentions. A judge loses this power consider motive because all criminals of the same crime are viewed as equal. By restricting a judge’s discretion, it creates injustice within the courts. Actions are based on their motives and a judge should have the ability to consider it when making a decision that can greatly impact another individual’s life. Therefore, truth in sentencing and the equal justice perspective need the discretion of a judge to justly establish a fair sentence that accounts for all aspects of the individual and their
Honesty proves one’s trustworthiness and dependability in a friendship. I really valued honesty in my friendship with a girl named Libby. Libby and I became friends with another girl named
Today, we see it everywhere. On reality tv, court tv, and even on the news. We are constantly required to judge peoples actions as just or unjust.
Last but not least, injustice does not provide the most good for the most number of people. Just acts spawn other just acts just like unjust acts spawn other unjust acts. If everyone behaved unjustly, mankind would return to a state of nature (everyone is for themselves) which would be very unprofitable for the unjust individual due to a decreased likelihood of survival. An action is clearly unprofitable for the unjust individual if it would eventually create a hostile environment for him. Hence, one should set an example for others by living a just life which would create a better environment for him as well as for others.
I could cite several examples where I thought a judge’s or jury’s ruling was not fair, but I won’t because frankly, we’ve all seen those. I actually believe in our legal system, and I believe in justice. I believe in justice as an ideal that we strive for, and that is what it means to me. The legal system, when looked at closer, is not justice but instead judgment. You can be punished when found guilty, in a number of ways, but who knows if they’re “fair” punishments, it’s all a matter of opinion.
I have been involved in the American Cancer Society for five years. My team, Team Hoot has raised funds for cancer as well as participating in Relay for Life each year. This year, I will be on the board committee at Relay; giving back to the survivors. This organization is one that I always promote and give back to. Also being involved in Relay for Life this year, National Honors Society is a club that helps the community. Being passionate about making a difference is a drive that I always
Admit it: You 've lied. We all have at some stage or point in our life. Whether you 're asserting your feelings, getting it off your chest or just being plain and distinctly honest, the truth about honesty is that honesty isn 't always the best artery of choice. What 's more, striving on the avenue of complete disclosure can drive an unwanted wedge and result in permanent closure on a relationship. Today, the consequences of lying are often veiled from reality, the unvarnished truth is, we don 't need weapons to fatally hurt those closest to us as the act can be equally carried out with the sharp verbal cuts of a truthful tongue.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new, its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and support millions of young people all over the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well as adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society.
So if justice in considered to be fair, that would make something unjust, unfair, right? What if an innocent person was proven guilty in a court of law and spent time in jail or money to pay a fine? That would be considered just, because in the court of law he was in fact proven guilty, however it would also be unfair because the person is innocent. This is the same result in another case, the most current issue and most relative in my belief would be Affirmative Action. If justice is in fact fair, therefore not treating persons of different races or gender any different then Affirmative Action is unjust, and although I do not oppose such a policy, I still see it as unjust.
‘Justice is a concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion or equity. It is also act of being just & fair.’ Which means that giving every individual what he or she merits or in more customary terms, giving every individual his or her due. ‘Studies at UCLA in 2008 have indicated that reactions to fairness are “wired” into the brain and that, “fairness is activating the same part of the brain that responds to food in rats. This is consistent with the notion that being treated fairly satisfies a basic need.
