Persuasive Essay: Did Romeo ever truly love Juliet? This question is one of the most asked questions about the whole game. Let's think about this question. We see Romeo infatuated with Rosaline at the beginning of the story, and then out of nowhere, Romeo believes he loves Juliet. I think Romeo does NOT truly love Juliet. I don't believe in love at first sight, for me, there is no way a person loves someone when all they know is their looks, there is no true love in that, just aesthetic attraction. At the beginning of the story, Romeo tells Benvolio “She hath forsworn to love, and in that vow do I live dead that lived to tell it now.” This gives us an example of Romeo being lustful and not wanting a serious relationship with Rosaline. If Juliet had not been fair at the feast, then Romeo wouldn't have believed he loved Juliet, and it wouldn’t have been ‘love at first sight.’ Romeo is around the age of sixteen and eighteen, and he has never truly felt love yet. He thinks he knows what love is with what Friar Lawrence has told him, yet he doesn’t fully understand what he is being told. He confuses his feelings of lust for love and doesn't know how to separate the two feelings. Romeo jumps to the first thing in his mind that he thinks will bring him happiness, love. Romeo was so heartbroken that Rosalina didn't want to pursue him. How can he feel so much sorrow and misery and a few hours later believe he’s in love with another woman? If Romeo truly loved Rosaline, his feelings wouldn't have changed when he saw Juliet. Romeo was in a dark place and he thought that thinking that he loved another woman would bring him happiness.
