The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare was romantic, yet tragic. Two lovers sadly ended their own lives because their families were bitter rivals and would not allow them to be together. The person who should be held accountable for their deaths should be the nurse. The nurse’s job is to help, protect, and take care of Juliet. In the end, she failed.
The nurse wants what is best for Juliet. Even when Juliet isn’t around, the nurse wants her to be happy and plans her future for that. But, in the long run, the nurse isn’t preparing Juliet for tougher problems in life. When big issues came up in the past, the nurse was always there to help her. Since she was a young child, the nurse was there to take care of her. When the nurse suddenly stops holding Juliet’s hand in life, she is unprepared and doesn't know how to handle the choices she has to make. The nurse, holding back important news, said “‘can you not stay a while? Do you not see that I am out of breath’” (812). Juliet is dieing to hear what the nurse has to say, but the nurse is taking her time. She messes with Juliet’s feeling and causes her undue stress. The nurse never understood that to Juliet, this is her life.
The nurse is fine with Romeo and Juliet meeting all the time. The nurse said to Romeo “‘I’ll tell my lady you will come’” (833). The nurse knows that the two’s interaction is not allowed, but she still condones them to meet. If Romeo and Juliet’s parents knew that they were together, the nurse would probably get in trouble or fired. She doesn’t think to tell Juliet’s mom or dad about the two, even though taking care of Juliet and making sure she stays out of trouble is the nurse’s job.
