Ms. Silano ENL1W1-03 17 May 2024 Impulsivity: The Solidification Of One’s Death To be impulsive is to act upon one’s emotions without keeping logic in mind. When someone is in this state, decisions and actions are performed without thought. While one is in this situation, anything will be done in order to complete the goal, no matter the risks or dangers. In Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, the characters display the consequences of impulsivity in multiple scenarios which leads to their demise and the death of innocents. Romeo and Juliet are impulsive due to their dangerously irresponsible thought processes which leads to their destruction because Romeo and Juliet got married too quickly, Romeo hears of Juliet’s “death” and he runs towards his demise, …show more content…
An example of this is when Romeo and the Friar created a plan in order for Friar Lawrence’s to marry them.. Romeo visits the Friar saying he wants to marry the “love of his life”, so a plan is made to sneak Juliet out of her house and into the Friar’s office. Romeo orders, “Let’s go”. I insist on being quick about this” (Shakespeare 2.3.96). After Romeo hears the plan, he agrees and even suggests executing the plan faster. Romeo is blindly following the Friar without wondering what might go wrong or if Romeo could even trust Friar Lawrence. Romeo trusts the Friar because it is the only option he has, he thinks the Friar’s plans will work, and he would rather die than not being able to marry Juliet. In addition, my second example is when Juliet heard of the Friar’s plans to avoid marrying Paris and immediately agreed, even going as far as begging for the potion. Juliet has entered an arranged marriage with Paris, even though she is married to Romeo. Juliet runs to the Friar in hopes of a plan and the Friar gives her a potion that will make her look dead for 42 hours. Juliet demands, “Give me, give me! O, tell me not of fear” (Shakespeare
Albert Camus points out that for some people, it is easier for them to take their own life, than it is to continue living an empty one. This is the case for the star-crossed lovers, Romeo, and Juliet, in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet. Although there were multiple contributing factors to the suicides of Romeo and Juliet, Friar Laurence is directly responsible for their deaths. He is responsible because he trusted someone other than himself to deliver the letter to Romeo, he gave Juliet the potion, and left when Romeo and Juliet were in danger at the tomb.
During the teenage years of the brain “…the part of the brain that requires a person to make responsible decisions, understand consequences, and process problem solving is under heavy construction, and much of the time dysfunctional” (Wolner). Teenage brains think on impulsivity because of this Romeo and Juliet committed suicide on acts of impulsivity that would have been solved if they thought rationally. Romeo led off of impulsivity because of his love for Juliet. Juliet on the other hand had bad adult inference in her life, which did lead to her acting on impulsivity.
Advice is always helpful and it can be used to solve many problems. But advice can also be dangerous if the outcome is not considered. In William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, the blame for Romeo and Juliet's death lies on Friar Laurence. In spite of being the most kind, sensible and thoughtful person, he presents misleading advises and actions towards the lovers which lead to their tragic death. Friar Laurence's deceptive advices and actions towards the lovers are secretly marrying Romeo and Juliet in the hope of getting two families together and bring peace to Verona, Friar Laurence organizes poorly for the plan of Juliet's fake death which causes the death of the lovers, Friar Laurence proposes a plan to fake Juliet's death and gives her the potion which leads to Romeo and Juliet's death.
Teenagers that are in love tend to be impulsive and bad at making decisions. In the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, two star-crossed lovers from families that don’t get along have to go against their parents, so they can be together. The language that Shakespeare uses depicts the characters and shows that they are impulsive, which affects the outcome of the play.
There was action and there was tragedy, but put it all together to make the perfect comedy and a perfect tragic story. William Shakespeare wrote the play Romeo and Juliet, said to be the finest written play in history, for its originality and it's many plots. This story will take you through a lot of mixed emotion and will show you what a true feud is. This story is laid out perfectly because of its true holding and both family's passion for their children. William Shakespeare wrote the story to show how Romeo and Juliet's love for each other will show their youth and immaturity. Their over reacting cost them their life. At such a young age they thought they could never love another being again, and so, " A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life."(Act one scene one)
In our society, love can be portrayed in thousands of ways. With simple things such as giving someone a hug or something more elaborate such as marriage. These things show are affection and love towards others, but it does not just end there. In Romeo and Juliet, as well as our society, we portray many different styles of love. These styles of love that I thought were portrayed well in Romeo and Juliet were physical love, emotional love, and paternal love.
Particularly, Lord Capulet is a prime example of impulsiveness in the play. Originally, when Paris asked for Juliet’s hand in marriage, Capulet turned him down because he believed she was too young and should marry for love. After the unfortunate death of Tybalt, Juliet’s Cousin, Capulet believed that the only way to make Juliet radiant again was to marry her off. When Paris came asking for Juliet’s hand in marriage, again, Lord Capulet states,” Sir Paris, I will make a desperate tender / of my child’s love I think that she will be ruled / in all respects by me; nay more, I doubt it not.” (3.4.12-14.).
Impetuous actions can dramatically alter the life of anybody in many ways. The lack of thinking things through and acting solely on one particular emotion can lead to unanticipated results. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows how impetuous actions combined with the need for lust can lead to a tragic end. It wasn't fate but rather Romeo and Juliet's hasty actions that brought their untimely deaths.

Thesis: If one makes selfish choices in life, it can end in disastrous results, as shown in Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet; And shown through the characters of Capulet, Tybalt and Juliet.

William Shakespeare has made some marvelous characters over a long time period, from Midsummers Night Dream to Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare has adopted the idea of having some main character flaws so the audience would say “don’t do it” or “he’s over there” as if the main character doesn’t thoroughly look over the situation they are facing. These character flaws can be summed up in Juliet, these include loyalty to Romeo, defiance her parents and family, and gullible. Shakespeare uses all of these points to give his audience the edge on the love of the two star crossed lovers.
Romeo and Juliet explore how the intensity of young love can lead to impulsive decisions. Firstly, Juliet's impulsive agreement to marry Romeo demonstrates how the intensity of their infatuation is leading to rash decision makings.
