As American actor and producer Timothy Olyphant said “Sometimes, people aren't as consciously aware of their decisions as they should be”. This statement also applies to Romeo and Juliet, a play by William Shakespeare. Romeo is often not as conscious of his decisions as he should be. He also weighs his feelings when making a decision more than common sense or reason. This drastically influenced his life, and the wrong turn that it took. The critical choices that Romeo makes are most responsible for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet because he makes his choices based on emotion even when he knows it will end up badly for him, and when he is too ignorant to know.

When the friar hears that Romeo wants to be married to Juliet he inquires if “Is Rosaline, that thou dodst love so dear. Soon forsaken?(2.3 70-71). When the friar says that the person Romeo used to “love so dear soon forsaken” he is saying that Romeo is very emotional and has the tendency to quickly grow strong feelings for somebody. This applies to both Juliet and Rosaline. Romeo doesn't think his decisions through, in the case of both Rosaline and Juliet he became very attached to them in a shoot amount of time. He doesn't use common sense and only uses his emotions when making a critical choice for example he didn't stop and think if it would be a good idea to marry somebody he met the night before. When Romeo finds out that Juliet is dead he assers that “Well Juliet I will lie with thee tonight”(5.1, 37). When Romeo says “I will lie with thee” he is referring to him going to Juliet's tomb and killing himself so he can be with her. This is another instance of Romeo not thinking things through and acting on emotion. He is not taking the time to think the situation through and he is going straight to the extreme. This identifies the fact that when Romeo makes critical choices without thinking things through it ends up badly for him. In this instance it results in the death of both him, and Juliet. When Romeo was in Mantua and his servant comes with a message he queries “Oh true apothecary, these drugs are quick. and with a kiss I die (5,3 119-120). When Romeo asks if there are “letters from the friar, and How doth my lady” he is implying that he does not know of the plan and that the friar has not gotten in touch with him. If he knew about the plan he would not ask how Juliet is doing because he would know she is pretending to be dead. If Romeo knew how his choice to kill himself would pan out then he would have under no circumstances done it. But because he did not understand the consequences of his actions a tragedy occurred. When Romeo was in the tomb and about to kill himself, he bellowed “Oh true apothecary, these drugs are quick. and with a kiss I die (5,3 119-120). When Romeo says “and with a kiss I die” he is emphasizing the fact that the choices he has made led him to end his life. He cannot bear to continue living if he does not have Juliet by his side. He does not know that Juliet is alive and well right next to him, and when she sees him dead she will kill herself. If Romeo had known the consequences of critical choice, and this proved fatal for both him and Juliet. He would have chosen to not end his life, and he would have been able to live happily with Juliet. If Romeo had been more aware of what the outcomes of his choices
