In spite of having an influential women leader as a prime minister to lead the country and massive policy initiatives for bringing women empowerment in achieving millennium development goals, Bangladesh ranks lower in terms of women participation in leadership position and top management in the private sector of the economy. Gender diversity in business leadership is an emerging requirements to be fulfilled in order to become competitive globally. Women are not only able to handle the critical decision involve in family such as education, health, financial matters etc., they have sufficient business acumen to adopt with and lead any changing business landscape. They represent a significant portion to add value to the economic value creation process of the economy. The role of women in top management is mostly underscored in the context of Bangladesh, however, the country cannot devise a path of sustainable development without considering a large pool of potential women talents as a source of power and prosperity. The United States is a developed country that people are lucky to be able to live in. In the past however, not everyone was given the same rights. Through legislation and even war, people have fought for change so that we could live in the world that we live in today. Similarly, in Afghanistan people are fighting for their rights everyday. They have been through war and oppression to reach their goals of the freedoms that every person deserves. In the novel This Earth Of Mankind by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, discrimination against social structure, race, and gender is apparent. The setting is in the Indies, or now called Indonesia. At that time, there are terms for different races in the book, which are “Native” indicating someone who is pure Indonesian, “Indo” a half European and half Indonesian, and “Pure Blood” or “European” when someone is pure European. An Indo and a Pure Blood receives more respect in society than a Native. Women in this novel are portrayed differently according to what race, social structure, and gender they are born in, which can be seen through Nyai Ontosoroh, Annelies, and Magda Peters.

When we think about how it used to be 100 years ago, the only people in leadership roles where men, and there was no presence of women. Why is it that we tend to see more men in leadership positions? Usually when we think of what a leader looks like, we tend to describe them as powerful, assertive and confidence. Because of stereotypes our society immediately labels this person as a man, due to the roles that we are expected to follow. The persistence of the gender gap has been evaluated through the barriers, wage disparity, and discrimination that women endure in these organizations. In evaluating the barriers that women endure, it is displayed that they are left at a disadvantage compared to men, since they do not have the same learning opportunities, and are unable to progress at the same level.
