Do you remember when the Holocaust happened? What is the Holocaust you say? Well, The holocaust is a horrible time for people who hated the Nazis, as they were getting killed, which is why miep wanted to help. In the play, ¨Diary of Anne Frank,¨by Frances Goodrich, and Albert Hackett, the Frank family, and the Van Daans, and Mr Dussel, even though he doesn't come in until later, are hiding in the annex. Miep gies, and Mr kraler help these eight into hiding. They are hiding because the Nazis invaded Amsterdam and if they were found they would have to go to concentration camps. This is because adolf hitler told them that jews were the “scapegoat” to the war. Miep is one of the very few to survive in this group of people. Miep, along with many other people, showed courage by knowing the sacrifices, risking things for the good, and focusing on how to help the franks survive. …show more content…
Mr. Frank has changed after losing his family, yet he remembers of the sacrifice Miep made to help him the previous years,
“ Forgive me. I shouldn’t talk to you like this. . . after all that you did for us. . . the suffering . . .”(Goodrich, Hackett 702) Mr. Frank knows he should be thankful because she helped them survive. There are many of moments in life to help people, but Miep chose to help them because of many things and the courage plays this role of, wanting to help out people that are in need.
Helping the frank family was really risky, when it comes to the laws. Mr Kraler points out the dangers of helping them,“ it’s illegal, then, the ration books? We’ve never done anything illegal.”(Goodrich, Hackett 705). Miep, would do anything illegal, just to save or even make them happy. Some people, like miep, can be careless of the laws, just to protect those that they love, but sometimes that's a good thing, to have the courage to protect who you would do anything for, even though you know the
Courage is shown both mentally and physically in Hiaasen’s novel. The scenes in the book that best describe Hiaasen’s message to the readers--what the true meaning of courage is--are when the protagonist risks his life to return a panther cub to its mother, when the protagonist hangs on to the last bit of hope he has for his dad healing from an injury, and when a character has lost courage in himself. Courage is one of the unique traits that define us as a human being. Sometimes, we as humans, perceive courage differently than what the true meaning of courage is. Our minds see courage as someone saving the world, or being fearless, often overlooking mental courage. Hiaasen, in his writing, poses a question to the reader, one that makes them think about courage: Does courage always mean being fearless? Is courage always associated with overcoming a fear? Humans tend to be wired with the belief that a good story should be enthralling, and have courageous characters. Hiaasen alters the reader's stereotypical view of courage . Hiaasen does not provide readers with characters that fit the “stereotype” of courage. Maybe, Hiaasen wants the reader to observe the true, and imperfect human being. The reader’s mind then makes a startling discovery, as it stumbles upon a part in the story that forces the reader to redefine their perception of courage.
Miep was not being a hero figure because she didn’t care about any of that. She only cared about getting them food and making sure their ok. She risked getting caught and sent to prison and who knows maybe they would have taken her to a concentration camp. They felt like they were being kind in helping them because it's not like they were forced to do it but that they did it because they wanted to.i would have done the same even though i could have been arrested I still would have done it because i would have been helping people for the right
Person vs. Society: Frank must learn to cope with the people who are unforgiving of his mistake and think he should receive further punishment. It is difficult for him to hear negative remarks and ruthless comments for strangers saying he should have greater consequences, even though he is paralyzed for life.
Act two, scene four fits into the overall structure of the play because this scene is the conflict or climax, the problem of the play. The play’s major theme is during tough times, have hope. This scene adds to the major theme of the play because when Franks, Van Daans, and Dussel were caught by the natzis, the families kept their hope. The play, “The diary of Anne Frank” is based off of the diary of Anne Frank, a teenager who spent more than two years hiding from Natzis during the Holocaust. When Anne’s family was found by Natzis, they were sent to concentration camps, where she died. During this part of the scene, Peter talks to Anne about how he cannot stand being cooped up anymore and Anne tries her best to comfort Peter. For example, In the play the Anne
Courage exists in several forms in Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. As defined by Atticus Finch, real courage "…when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what” (149). The novel explores the how this real courage can be shown in different ways through the lives of many characters in Maycomb, particularly, Tom Robinson, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus. Their courage is evident through their lifestyle, actions, and beliefs.
Frank has an interesting view on the way man has progressed morally. I think that he says that we don’t really know our morals until we have them truly questioned. In this he implies that the people who have strong morals, not only will stay true to them, but will survive. An example of this is Randy Bragg. Randy, on the day of nuclear fallout, stopped on the side of the road to help a woman. This shows that he has respect for the human race as a whole. The opposite of this was Edgar Quisenbury. Edgar valued nothing but money. In the end, the absence of money caused Edgar to become an example of Darwin’s “Only the strong” theory as he shot himself.
The McCourt family moved from New York to Ireland to look for a better way of living, to forget about their dead children, to try to have a regular life. Well, it didn’t work out. The father of the family was to caught up with drinking, instead of giving the money for the needs of the family, which would be just simple - food. When the father left to England to look for a job and never sent any money to his starving family Frank felt ob...
Opinion: Why do you think Frank has confessed at this time? What is his motive? Has he underestimated his brother, or has he estimated correctly?
Living in poverty and not being able to meet basic needs leads the characters to result to desperate measures such as stopping Frank McCourt’s education and taking a job to support the family. Frank is forced to take the job mostly because his father is an alcoholic and uses all the dole money and his wages to buy beer instead of feeding his family. Frank describes this pattern of drinking away the money by saying " When Dad comes home with the drink smell there is no money and Mam screams at him till the Twins cry."(42) This situation lasts until Mr.McCourt leaves to work in England and is never heard from again which forces Frank to take a job at fourteen years old. Frank takes on the role of the head of the family proudly and comments " Its hard to sleep when you know you know the next day you’re fourteen and starting your first job as a man." (p.309) Frank’s ability to provide financial stability leads to greater comfort and living conditions for the family.
Mr. Frank is one of the people who display these aspects throughout the story. He shows his courage through his actions towards the Van Daans. He lets the Van Daans stay with them in the annex when he knows that he and his family would have a much better chance of surviving, but he wanted to repay back Mr. Van Daan for his kindness when he first came to Germany. Mr. Frank clarifies his hope through his words to Anne. Mr.Frank said (Pg.650) “It’ll be hard I know But always remember this, Anneke. There are no walls, there are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind.” These words told to Anne shows the hope Mr. Frank has that they will survive the position they are in.
Frankl faced through his life in the concentration camps, the one that was the most crucial to his future success was the inner struggle to find his purpose. During his final years in the death camps, Frankl often gave speeches to fellow prisoners about purpose, potential, and why they all needed to survive and fight on for the prospective future. This was a coping technique for him as well as useful for the other people in the camp also: “ But I also told them that, in spite of this, I had no intention of losing hope and giving up. For no man knew what the future would bring, much less the next hour”(Frankl 82). This unrelenting desire to not only survive, but to thrive, is the reason that Frankl made it out of the camps. His mindset would not let his body give up or give in to death. As a psychiatrist, Frankl passed along his wisdom to other prisoners in his conversations with not only friends, but enemies in the camp as well. What’s ironic is that in such unbearable conditions for a human being to handle, Frankl and other prisoners who were liberated transformed into more developed versions of themselves. While people In their pain and chaos, they discovered something more meaningful than anything they could have possibly imagined of finding outside of the camps; they discovered their inner
... the officials. The reverend helps Frank, by giving him money as well as shoes, because he was bare foot. Good Samaritans also help Frank by providing him with sumptuous clothing and bus fares to get hi m to his next destination. These smaller resolutions allowed Frank to accomplish is larger resolution to find his sister.
Gies' motivation for helping Jewish families during World War II was endless and inspirational to all. Although the heroic Miep Gies said she did not like being called a hero and she had done nothing extraordinary, the truth is that she put her life on the line for the Frank family. She began by saying "... I'm just a very common person. I simply had no choice." Miep saw herself as another ordinary person and thought that a human helping out another human was a task that was normal and almost obligatory. But, because she thought so little of herself, she believed she could take on the challenge. Moreover, she stated that "if people are allowed to think it takes remarkable qualities to act boldly on behalf of others, few will attempt it."
...out his wife had died he knew she was still looking after him. He knew their love did not die when one them died. Frankl knew even though his wife was died her love for her was so great that she would still be there for him even though she was not there physically for him.
Anne Frank was a young girl who suffered and just had a hard life. She was 13 years old girl who had to go into hiding. Some Jews had to go into hiding or they had to go to a concentration camp. Jews were treated badly back in time. If you were a jew and you were seen the Nazis’ would take you away to a concentration camp to work. But sometimes you could be killed in a gas chamber, or killed from a disease or die from starvation. Anne for her birthday got a journal from her father Otto Frank. And she wrote in it every day. A few months after she started writing in the journal someone had called the Nazis’ the Anne was in hiding. The Nazis’ come and took the Franks’, Van Daans’, and Mr. Dussel. When she was leaving for the concentration camp her dropped her journal. Miep found it and kept it until Anne came back. Miep wanted to keep until Anne came back but in the end Anne dies and Miep gives the journal to Anne’s father Otto Frank. A quote from Anne’s journal was “Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart”, I agree with her statement.
