In the book of Anne Frank there are the Van Daan’s and the Franks. Then there's the people that help them which are Mr. Kraler and Miep. the Van Daan’s and Frank’s are in hiding because they were taking jews to concentration camps and had to go into hiding. They were hiding in a place called The Secret Annex in Amsterdam. In my Essay today I will be talking about who showed courage, compassion, and sacrifice. You can show courage in many different ways. Courage means when you are brave and even though your scared you still do it. In this case Mr.Frank and Peter do. Mr. frank shows it by being brave enough to go downstairs and risk getting caught just to catch the burglar. On the in the same way peter shows courage to. Peter shows courage because he goes out of the Annex to get things and he always risks getting caught to. Compassion is very different from courage. Compassion means when you care for people.it also means your caring for people that don’t deserve it. Mr. Frank is caring for the Van Daan’s and gave them a place to hide. He let them live in the Secret Annex with them. Mr. Frank did not half to let them do the, but he did because he is a caring person to everybody. Miep was not being a hero figure because she didn’t care about any of that. She only cared about getting them food and making sure their ok. She risked getting caught and sent to prison and who knows maybe they would have taken her to a concentration camp. They felt like they were being kind in helping them because it's not like they were forced to do it but that they did it because they wanted to.i would have done the same even though i could have been arrested I still would have done it because i would have been helping people for the right
On an early morning in July of 1942, the Van Daans and Franks meet up for the first time at the annex. All of them are covered in layers of clothing to carry as much to their new home as possible. They are all introduced to each other. Living in the secret annex is Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, Mr. and Mrs. Frank, Margot, and Anne Frank. Mr. Van Daan is a selfish, greedy man. Mrs. Van Daan likes the finer things, thinks pretty highly of herself and adores her husband. Peter is shy, quiet, and just truly doesn’t say much. Mr. Frank is a kind, caring, leading man. Mrs. Frank is motherly, caring, and sweet. Margo does as others say and tries to keep a low-key profile. Anne is wild and unique. She doesn’t let others push her around, and she is very independent. Wisps of burnt-out curtains drape over shattered window frames, fluttering helplessly like a bird with injured wings. Pieces of wood collapse snapping once they hit the ground. Smoke swirls around in the wind. No sound can be heard except for the occasional sobs escaping the chapped lips of people visiting what is left of their homes. The once busy city of Amsterdam is now nothing but a city of forgotten souls. In 1942, the Franks and the Van Daans moved into a warehouse located in Amsterdam to escape the perilous world outside, where the Holocaust was taking place. Jews like the Franks and the Van Daans had their rights taken away from them. The Gestapo, the police working for the Nazis, rounded up people to be sent to concentration camps, where people worked to death. Margot Frank was one of them. Many Jews had to leave the country to escape, while the two families, and later on a man named Dussel, lived on the top floor of the warehouse called the Secret Annex. Living in such a small space and having sparse food with so many people was not easy. On weekdays, not a noise was to be made otherwise the workmen below would hear them. Food and other items had to be brought in by Miep and Mr. Kraler, who risked their lives to help the members of the Secret Annex. The Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel all tried to give each other hope to in spite of all the horrible things happening. When Hanukkah came, they still celebrated it to distract everyone from the darkness. Even though, it was hard to get gifts for everyone, Anne spent her time making gifts for everyone living in the Secret Annex. Mr. Frank kept a map of all the cities being liberated to keep hope that they will be liberated soon. Miep had letters sent to Dussel from his fiance which also gave him hope. These are all examples of others trying to give hope in the Diary of Anne Frank. In the documentary, while in the concentration camps, Lies Goslar told about how she sent Anne a package with supplies and about how she found out Anne lived near her in the camp. Sal de Liema told about how he and Mr. Frank tried to survive mentally, singing songs to distract them from the suffering. Mr. Frank always kept hope that his children, Anne and Margot were alive. Mr. Frank also acted as a father to Sal de Liema. Another important issue that the author brings up is the fact that the Franks were better informed than other Jews about the extirmination camps. The other Jews had no knowledge about these camps, making it a little bit more reasonable for the others to want to stick together as a family. The Franks, however, knew this and they still did nothing to prepare for the Nazis. The author also had some ideas for the Franks to prepare for the invasion when the Nazis came, even though they stayed together. He suggested that Mr. Frank could have had some form of protection, such as a gun; Mr. Frank could have tried to detain the police when they came, while his family could try to run to safety. Sure, Mr. Frank would have been killed of beaten, but he could have done a better job of protecting his family.

I agree with Anne because a lot of people hid Jews during the holocaust. Miep and Mr. Kraler help the Frank, Van Daan, and Miep’s dentist, Mr.Dussel during the Holocaust. They hid them even though she knew it was against the law. They both kept everyone a secret, and they also got them food every day and snuck upstairs to the attic before the workers came. “Mr. Kraler: I must go before the workmen get here. This goodness can be proven through people’s actions during the Holocaust. There were many people who helped hide Jews from the Nazis while risking their own lives and families to help others. This can be seen throughout different scenes in the play, “The Diary of Anne Frank.” First, many scenes take place in which Miep and Mr. Kraler risk their lives for Anne’s family and friends. They keep them hidden, bring them food, and share news about the outside world. When referring to their kindness, Mrs. Frank speaks of them with appreciation and affection. Frank is good at heart. Mr. Frank is a very selfless and caring man. He cares for everyone in the annex. When Mrs. Frank finds Mr. Van Daan stealing food, she wants him and Mrs. Van Daan to leave. However, Mr. Frank disagrees. “ You’re speaking in anger. You cannot mean what you are saying.” Mr. Frank doesn’t want the Van Daans to have to live out on the streets. Anne Frank was a 13-year-old Jewish girl who was thrown into one of the worst periods in the history of the world; the Holocaust. Though she went through awful things that many people will never experience, she always kept the faith that there was still some good in everyone. She once said, “Despite everything I still believe people are truly good at heart.” Her diary, which she kept while her family was in hiding from the Nazis, shows the triumph of her spirit over the evil in the world even through the pain of adolescence. The Franks and Van Dans were hiding and they suffered many hardships, mentally and physically. Many people in Anne’s situation would have become bitter and resentful, but Anne never would despair.

That is what courage is all about. Many historical events occur due to people having the courage to do what they think is right, or because of those who use their courage to do what they want.
