Robotics What do you think of when you think about ‘robots’? If you think they are only the stuff of space movies and science fiction novels, then think again. Robots are the largest growing technological devices in the world. They perform many functions ranging from space exploration to entertainment. In the following essay the functions of robots, the various types of robots and the advantages and disadvantages of using robots will be discussed. The reasons for using robots are almost endless for example ; robots are ideal for jobs that require repetitive , precise movements. Human workers get bored doing the same thing over and over, which can lead to fatigue, RSI ( Repetitive Strain Injury , and costly mistakes. Robots are also ideal for tasks that are dangerous, or where human workers may damage the product. For example, in a factory manufacturing medicines and chemicals that may harm humans, and factories that manufacte food that humans may damage by handling. Also used in tasks that are impossible for humans eg. Navigating mars or deep sea exploration. The uses for robots are almost as endless as the reasons for using them. There are five main areas in which robots are used. Ninety percent of robots are used in factory work and assembly lines. They assemble cars, package food, load machines and repair machines. Another major area that robots are used is in space exploration. NASA spends hundreds of thousands of dollars a year producing robots that allow the scientific world to discover more and more about the solar system that we live in. The medical industry is another major area that robots are used in, and the technological advances in this area are really quite incredible and are the cause for many lives being saved... ... middle of paper ... ...atness and smoothness helps it be streamlined and move with minimal effort. With robots used in space exploration and factory work, their appearance is not really important, as long as they carry out their function and complete the task. Space exploration robots are usually bulky with many wheels and factory robots usually have many arms to carry out their task efficiently. Robots are becoming more and more prominent in today’s society and is an essential part of space exploration, the defence force, medical advances, as well as beginning to be used around the home in cleaning. Robots are also being used for entertainment, eg. The show ‘Robot Wars’ and the robotic dog and dolls. As our knowledge about robots and how they work grows and if all the technological advances continue at the rate they are it will be very exciting to see the sort of robots used in the future.

Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, allows a machine to function as if the machine has the capability to think like a human. While we are not expecting any hovering cars anytime soon, artificial intelligence is projected to have a major impact on the labor force and will likely replace about half the workforce in the United States in the decades to come. The research in artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly at an unstoppable rate. So while many people feel threatened by the possibility of a robot taking over their job, computer scientists actually propose that robots would benefit a country’s efficiency of production, allowing individuals to reap the benefits of the robots. For the advantage of all, researchers and analysts have begun to mend the past ideas of human-robot interaction. They have pulled inspiration from literary works of Isaac Asimov whom many saw as the first roboticist ahead of his time, and have also gotten ideas of scholarly research done by expert analysts. These efforts have began to create an idea of a work force where humans and robots work together in harmony, on a daily basis.
Robots are made to run without flaws and can outperform the average worker. This is because there are fewer employees working that need to get paid. This is not a good thing as it might seem. In China, robots almost completely replace human workers to save money.

For example there is a robotic dog that now for sale that can behave and act like a dog. The nice thing about having a robotic dog is a person could shut it off when they get tired of it.

On the other hand, robots can get to locations in outer space such as the Moon, Venus, Mars, Titan, including Jupiter, and also a few comets and asteroids. Robots can travel further and faster, as well as returning more scientific data than missions that include humans. Robots, definitely, have and will continue to contribute to our understanding of the Universe today. Space robots can be divided into two types: ROV and RMS, ROV is (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and the other is the RMS (Remote Manipulator System). According to Robots in Space by Nicholos Wethington “, the most famous robots in space have to be the series of orbiters, rovers and landers that have been sent to Mars.” After all, robots are very helpful in the space exploration, and they will be more helpful in the future.
